To also be fair, when the cord causes one fall out it also "catches" it. In the cord-free version, when one falls out, it's going to keep on falling. Personally, when it comes to this particular issue, I'm not sure which is better in day-to-day realities.

Yet if there is no cord they don't fall out.

Variety. Competition. Options. Choice. Why we also have 50 different kinds of cereal and 10/15 types of toothpaste to buy/not buy.
As it stands with those products you get an increase in product quality with price. I mean, are we to assume they offer the same sound quality as Apple's current earbuds?

I guess I'm not seeing this. I also wonder about the weight distribution and how they stay in the ears - perhaps we'll see a safety cord accessory to keep them tied together?

I can't even fathom why anyone would want these. Normal earbuds fall out of my ears with the slightest movement and these appear just as bad.

Right there with you. Just looking at them makes my ears cringe. While I totally acknowledge *i am not everyone*, anecdotally I know many people feel the same about the apple earbud shape.

We really need reviews

This is the type of thing reviewers are good for (if that's possible)

That was also my kneejerk thought but not really based on personal experience. Honestly other than cord related issues I’ve had more of those earbuds with extension hardware you need an engineering degree to figure out how to put on properly come out of my ears than normal earbuds.

I think what it comes down to is either you have the right ears for these or you don’t.

Because it has the wires that are pulling on the earphones constantly. If you had something that small tethered to something that, during the course of the day, could be pulled out accidentally is because of the wires. I've refused to use the earphones that come with the phone because of that reason, but they fit in my ear perfectly. You know that old saying "Try it out first before you knock it..."

That's the Apple Kool-Aid talking.

If the earbuds fit securely in the ear like they should, having a wire on them shouldn't cause them to come out so easy. In the case of Apple's earbud design, it's form over function.

I wonder if all of the people that claim this have the total recall to remember that they've never actually fallen out. Or, like countless other incidental events in our lives, we just don't remember them falling out, hanging by the wire and us putting them right back in. Many of us probably can't remember the clothing we wore all day as recent as a few days ago.

With this new product, it will be different. When one of these falls out, it's going to fall to the floor. In a clear or accessible space, this will also be incidental. We'll put it back in and forget that it fell out. On the other hand, when it falls out and into a more inaccessible space (a crack between the seats, off the side of an escalator, into the bushes near where we were jogging, etc) and we have to invest some time hunting for it, odds seem higher we'll remember that kind of incident.
If people are truly interested in AirPods and afraid of loosing one they could always opt for behind the neck option: Spigen AirPods Strap
There are other strap options for AirPods besides the above.

I'm not sure why someone would purchase these when you can get a cracking pair of headphones for a similar price. What a world.

I've got multiple pairs of headphones - specific ones for running, wired ones and bluetooth ones and I've ordered some because the convenience of not having to pair / repair when I move between devices is appealing to me.

I won't wear them for running but I'm sure they'll be useful to wear during the day when I may spend some time watching a video on my iPad, then switch to some music on my phone and then make a video call on my iMac.

If they're crap, I'll just send them back, but they're worth a punt and are actually the cheapest headphones I've bought in a long time

Silly Billy! Someone have absolutely no clue why earbuds fall! Because they get pulled by the stupid wire! Instead of allowing people do try it first, you are being.....well, you are being MacRumors forum member, who knows how to judge things before even getting the hands on one.

And, yet, incidents like you describe are *decidedly* in the minority. Statistically insignificant, even.

But, statistically speaking, the many, many claims that earbuds never fall out is to be accepted as fact... for the multitudes. My point was basically the mirror of the one you are trying on me: just as you are faulting the odd scenarios I reference to help us remember these wireless ones fell out as statistically odd scenarios, I'm poking at the prevalent "never fall out" claims as statistically lacking as well.

In my own experience, I certainly can't remember buds or even headphones falling out/off every time they have... but I'm certain that they have fallen out more than "never." Just because I don't recall such an incidental moment that takes 5 seconds to rectify by putting them back in doesn't mean it never happens.

So again, this will be different. When (or "if" if you like) one of these falls out- and they will for at least some of us- odds seem higher the time to put them back in will be greater if for no other reason than they'll have farther to fall... and will require a bit more attention than just following a wire to locate.

I'm not poking at the product. For those that want it and like it, enjoy them! I'm poking at our collective spin as part of rationalizing that these will never fall out of our ears... because the wired ones never fall out of our ears.

Is this problem unique to Apple's pods? Most reviews will say it is pretty individual.

Somehow you are reading and responding to an attack on Apple. I make no such attack. No need to try to redirect some imagined bash by bringing in competing products.

I'm taking issue with the claim "never fall out" and yes, that problem is the same with all such products, wired and wireless... from any manufacturer.
