I'm surprised that Apple allowed people to buy multiple sets, given the supply constraint.
Seeing people posting that they've ordered 5 or 10 sets just for eBay resale is annoying.
Wonder why Apple didn't restrict to at most 2 pairs per order?

$159 is $159, whether they get 100K orders from 1 person or 100K orders from 100K people. Apple wants the revenue rather than laying down rules that might impede revenue. Selling out quickly is good PR. And making more to sell is fundamentally their business.

These are not precious rarities or maybe seats to a 1-time event. These are commodity items that could be made in such quantities that every single person on earth could have a set. The scalpers are trying to be opportunistic but they risk Apple making more quickly and eroding/eliminating their profits.

not true. no company want an end user buying a whole bunch of its product and resell it. it would rather sell it to 90k users than 1 user with 100k units.
people are waiting for this for a long time. if apple sell it to 1 user 100k units, and this user just holds on the units for a higher price, then people will be angry, to apple, because as far as they can see, apple is not providing enough supply. then people may switch to other brands. so not good.

also you just said apple wants revenue, then why is selling out a good thing? selling out --> no more to sell --> no more revenue.

So you're saying Apple makes products its customers want and that's why it's the most valuable company in the world! Great point!
No, I am saying Apple tells its customers what they want. That worked exceptionally well for a long time when they had Steve Jobs making the calls.

#1 reason why Earpods pop out of my ears: my hands accidentally tugged on the wire.

Reasons why I'm getting rid of my current bluetooth earbuds
- have to carry a micro usb cable
- microphone sucks, people can't hear me on calls,
- Siri takes like 5 seconds to activate and doesn't recognize my voice well
- switching from iphone to ipad use is weird. sometimes i have to manually disconnect one device and connect the other via bluetooth settings

so yes. i want one.
Same here. Earbuds have never fallen out of my ears with any level of activity. The only reason they ever come out is a tug of the cord and that happens with all earbuds. If it's really an issue Earhoox work for running, otherwise the design is ideal for my day to day use. I'm looking forward to using them for phone calls.

I can't even fathom why anyone would want these. Normal earbuds fall out of my ears with the slightest movement and these appear just as bad.
A lot of people are saying that but they haven't tried them. The wires don't pull on the earbuds so they are surprisingly stable. Maybe you'll be able to try them when they're in stores.

Exactly, Tim Cook even explained this himself but was just mocked/ignored. I think people will see if and when they try them.

Any chance these will ship earlier than 4 weeks ? I know it happen with phones .

Well I don't know about the Beats-branded part, but Bluetooth over-ear headphones generally provide better sound and much, much longer battery life. If I'm going Bluetooth, I'm not sure why I'd choose a solution that only gives me 5 hours of battery life.

I'm buying these for running and working out. I'm not going to use huge, over ear headphones to do that.

Believe what you wish. Selling out all you can make is perfectly compatible with what I said. If they can make many more than they have and one guy buys 100K units, so what, there's more units made for all the individuals whining about that terrible scalper I just made up.

I see this argument as a "that's not fair" one... being made by some who won't get their delivery as soon as others will get theirs. Of course, you won't see the one's getting their buds ASAP faulting the system because others couldn't get theirs as quickly too. In fact, if you go through the online ordering thread, you'll see a large percentage of posts basically sharing how soon they are going to receive theirs.

I will agree with you that Apple would also have the desire to make as many people happy as possible (and I personally detest the concept of scalping myself)... but I suggest that would be secondary to realizing as much revenue as possible. They are just like all of "us" posting how soon "we" are going to get our order of buds (except their joy is how quickly they are realizing the money from all those purchases). When they sell out, the customers can't get their buds as fast but the orders keep on pouring in... against which Apple does what it fundamentally does: make more units as soon as they can to fulfill those accumulating orders.

For me, these will be great to avoid getting caught in my hair, and will be invisible under my hair. I'm looking forward to using them for conference calls at my desk, calls while I'm holding bags in Uber/Lyft and don't have a free hand to hold my phone to my head and not getting tangled in bag/coat/hair, and probably while on the treadmill. I really dislike using corded headphones, or those bluetooth ones that are intended to have the wire go behind your head while working out. They always shift around, get caught in my hair, and yank one side out, or are just uncomfortable sliding on my neck. I'll still use my other really-great-sounding sound-isolating headphones when I want to just listen to music at my desk, but sound-isolation isn't always a good thing in an office environment, or when walking around avoiding getting squished by cars in an urban environment.

They're showing 4 weeks out now on shipping for online orders, but I highly suspect that Apple will bring that in and 4 weeks will change to 2, and so on (4 weeks being the most conservative date.) Almost every time I've ever ordered something from apple with a several week waiting period I got it a lot sooner. Also, people may pick them up in stores and cancel the online orders (like I hope to do) freeing up supply.

So those people selling on eBay may end up not getting much out of this.

I don't think Apple would un-restrict sales if supply was really that limited. I think demand (including these multiple orders) is just really high.

I see them now, they look promising. I've never liked the feel of the hard plastic, not sure why it never occurred to me to look up something like this.

Thanks!
Also search on "Earhoox" (brand.)

The usual undersupply "trick"...
So no chance they just sold out their existing stock? I would be pretty confident they did. And I think you know if Apple had anymore in stock they would ship it ASAP, not be "tricking" us into thinking they were pushing shipping estimates by withholding stock.

depends on the shape of the ears ppl have, my apple earpods never fallen out, and i used those since iphone 3. Ordered my airpods now and get them after new years :)

The delivery of the ear pods has got to be a first for Apple. We are talking about a 2 - 3 month delay since they where announced.

Could have got them on 20 dec too, but i waited for the delivery estimate to increase to after new years so i get them when i come home from jobtravel

That's the Apple Kool-Aid talking.

If the earbuds fit securely in the ear like they should, having a wire on them shouldn't cause them to come out so easy. In the case of Apple's earbud design, it's form over function.
Trade-offs. When I got my first pair of Apple earphone bundled with a phone, I was not impressed. Then I had to be on a VOIP conference for 9 hours. The kind of silicone earphones that push into my ear always become torture after a couple of hours. The Apple design was still comfortable. The silicone push in type is still good for short term and block more ambient noise.

I want the W1 chip because I regularly sit around with my Apple Watch, iphone, and iPad Pro, and I'd like to be able to switch between devices seamlessly. I don't like having cords and cables everywhere, so Powerbeats 3 and beats x are out for me. Beats Solo 3 I would consider, but $300 for a hunk of plastic is absurd (and I already have a pair of Harman kardons in that form factor)

I wouldn't mind if the Airpods were a different shape, but even in the shape they are now they are still the closest thing to what I want.
I wish they'd make in ear headphones like this. Their wired in-ear headphones are actually good for the price imo. The earpod sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, so to pay so much just for wireless seems insane to me.

Oh wow, could you post your full review since you clearly have a pair? It's funny that you're review goes against what every single actual review has said.

Oh wow, haven't you noticed that the part of these headphones, which you're supposed to stick in your ear, is almost identical to the normal EarPods?

And oh wow, have you missed the approximately 100 reviews, which say that it's more than likely to lose one of these AirPods rather sooner than later?

Usually it's the wire which makes them fall out the ear, it's very unlikely these will fall out.
