I was planning to buy the Airpods to use them with my Iphone plus 6, ipad pro and the Apple watch series 2 but now that Bluetooth 5 is coming and it is going to be faster/longer range I don't know if I should wait for the next generation of Airpods with Bluetooth 5. What do you think?

I am curious that for those wanting the AirPods, is this your first Bluetooth headphones?

This is my situation so am thinking the desire is mainly for the wireless. I'm going to go out and buy some cheap $20 Bluetooth right now to see if the novelty wears off after a few seconds - like most other shiny new things I have got in the past.

I have had the Bose SoundSport for 2 weeks now and they have been my first Bluetooth headphones. On the whole they are really good but I just don't like the wires, so for an extra £20 I have opted for the AirPods. If I don't like them then I will send them back and continue to search for the perfect running wireless headphones.

This is what I found:

Bluetooth 5 has been announced, and you probably have questions. Luckily, we have answers. Here's all you need to know.

(Update: 7 December 2016): Starting today, Bluetooth 5 is now widely available, launching with the promise of quadrupled range, a doubling of speed (from 1MBps to 2MBps), and all without an increase in energy consumption. It's also claimed that we'll see an 800% increase in broadcast messaging capacity, as well as "coexistence" with other connectivity technologies like Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE for "more robust connections". Read on to find out more.

The next Bluetooth Standard, Bluetooth 5, has now officially been announced, and it brings with it some serious upgrades including increased range, speed, and broadcast messaging capacity.

So what exactly is Bluetooth 5 and why does it matter? Let's start with the basics.

What's better about Bluetooth 5? It's faster, has longer range, and can transfer more information.

Why does that matter? Aside from the obvious benefits, the new standard is going to help support the IoT.

When is it coming out? Late 2016/Early 2017, but we won't see Bluetooth 5 devices hit the market for a while after that.

sucks, i was going to order but since shipping has slipped so far i don't want to anymore hahaha

That makes sense. Whenever I want something, I stop wanting it if I can't have it immediately.

People also think trump is gonna be a great president!

People also think Strawberries taste good. Some times things that people think are right and other times things are wrong. Trump will be a disastrous president. AirPods will integrate just fine into the culture and be a big hit.

I don't know about you guys but there's some pretty good toy value here, no?

It is Christmas. These little guys are going to be a hot item out the door me thinks. Very cute

I can't even fathom why anyone would want these. Normal earbuds fall out of my ears with the slightest movement and these appear just as bad.

Your normal earbuds have cords that pull them out. AirPods don't have cords.

Apple doesn't mind selling to resellers. Ask any Apple employee. Whether they sell 100k units to 100k customers or sell 100k units to 1 customer, it doesn't matter. They sell, they make cash. And cash in one transaction is better than cash in multiple transactions.
they can you explain why they limit the number of units you can buy on every iPhone launch?
why not just selling all they have in stock to the first in line?

I always keep my current earbuds in my coat pocket and damn it's so annoying having to untangle these things for when I listen as I go to work. Takes 3-4 mins to sort that crap out. So glad they will become my reserve earphones. It's hard to see myself using them again though. Air pods and beats solo3 will be all I use now I imagine

Apple has announced AirPods will be available for purchase at Apple Stores, authorized resellers, and select carriers next week, providing customers who did not quickly pre-order with a chance to buy the wireless earphones before the end of the year. Apple said stores will receive "regular AirPods shipments."

AirPods launched on Apple's website earlier today for $159. The all-new wireless earphones had an initial delivery estimate of around December 21 for many customers in the United States, but that date quickly slipped, and Apple is now quoting "4 weeks" for orders yet to be placed on its U.S. storefront.

AirPods are also estimated to ship in 4 weeks in Canada, where they are priced at $219. In Australia ($229) and the United Kingdom (£159), customers can still get earlier December 19 delivery as of the time this article was published. In Singapore, customers can get AirPods delivered by December 22 for $238.

In the Eurozone, AirPods cost EUR179. In Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, customers face a two-week wait for AirPods. Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Japan also have 2-week estimates. In Hong Kong, it is 4 weeks. AirPods are available in more than 100 countries overall.

Way too expensive in Canada ... not even an option IMO.

...and those are somewhat locked onto ears by some kind of clasp or even screw-on mechanism behind the lobe.

Yeah, and just like earrings, if you lose one you won't even notice. Because obviously the audio you were listening to in that ear will persist to play even after it has fallen out. Good job.

I wish everybody would boycott buying these so Apple would get the hint and focus on perfecting other products :(

Get what hint? People are buying them because they want them. So you're saying that customers should send the hint that customers like their products by refusing to buy from them? LOL, what are you even talking about?

Nope. Bought Powerbeats3 while I was waiting for these. I have shallow ears, so in -the-ear stuff doesn't usually stick. Powerbeats with the hook behind the ear is perfect. But I'd like to see if these work in my ears. Not even sure if I'll like them, since I don't use Siri. I know you can change the doubletap to be play/pause, so I think that will work out OK.

The apple hate on these forums is getting old especially from those who haven't even tried it and are already knocking them.

The reviewers who I trust love them so I am willing to give them a chance. If I don't like them Apple has a return policy.

I have the LG Tone bluetooth headset and love it for listening to podcasts/music in my apartment without having to carry the iphone even though the device gets sweaty around your neck. The LG Tone is not great for making calls so I use the earpods when I make calls. I will not miss untangling the apple earpod wires at all.

I also have a ton of bluetooth devices and the pairing always takes 5-10 seconds. Hopefully this will be faster.

Excited to pick up a pair in the Apple Store! From what I've seen, they should be in stores next Wednesday! Does anyone know of when Apple usually receives product shipments at the stores? Is it every morning before the store opens?

My 29.99 Amazon wireless headphones take 1 to 2 seconds to pair.

They blow the AirPods away.

I wouldn't mind giving them a try, but most reviewers are saying they sound identical to the 29$ EarPods....that's silly. 169$ for convenience.

You're twisting the point. I said nothing about not noticing they've fallen out. My posts were poking at claims that these will never fall out.

To that point, apparently you agree with me that at least some should expect them to fall out sometimes. Fortunately- per you- we'll notice the sudden loss of sound in that ear and can get to work finding wherever that one fell. Thanks!
