Agreed regarding user's ear shape, but I take everything Mr. Gruber says with a grain of salt. He's been know to be quite the App-ologist.

I'd rather hear whether or not people don't like them, and why they don't.

People will buy Apple stuff just because it is Apple, so I need to hear the other side. The headphone-jack-less iPhone being the most glaring example. Need to push past the cheerleading all the way to honest opinions.

People will also complain about Apple just because it is Apple. You've never had any experience with these Airpods, yet you already seem to have opinions.

I ordered mine today at 14:55 GMT and delivery says 19th Dec, Yay for being in the UK!

I don't really understand why people are moaning about price/quality/no wire thing!?

As far as truly wireless earphones go, Apple has actually priced these at pretty much mid-market.
cheapest I could find were about £98 - going up to about £250 for products that haven't been released yet.

If the sound quality is the same as the earpods, then these aren't that bad, there are a lot worse out there. And its probably worth comparing the sound quality to similar completely wireless earphones!

And for everyone complaining that they might drop them or lose them because they aren't wired - seriously?
You can't blame apple for being a Klutz, look after your ****! Or buy wired headphones.

Edit: - And personally I find their shape more comfy than most in-ear headphones

I mentioned that because being so many people's go to person, I knew who had PCs and who eventually stopped using them when they got a smart phone.

The future of offices full of computers on desks are open collaborative spaces where employees are mobile. Wait... scratch that, that's the present.

Many job categories where workers sat at computers all day are changing rapidly. Many of those offices are now couches and meeting tables. Many of those employees are free to go outside, to sit at a cafe meeting colleagues or clients.

Creatives who sat at a desk writing pitches now message one another and work in collaborative apps on their iphones and iPads. They go out and socialize with their peers which is how ideas come about. Realtors who used to manage their listings on a website editor on a computer now snap some shots and upload it to their realtor listing app. They respond to their emails from their car or before a viewing at their listings.

But that's besides the point. What is being discussed here are personal computers. People who used to use computers for email, web browsing, banking, occasional word processing and managing their budget in spreadsheets have since migrated to smartphones which is a true personal computer, dedicated to that one person and their needs.

I don't expect smartphones to disappear but their role as a central place for managing their lives is certainly going to change. It's already changing. Much more personal watches and speech based UI that AirPods are facilitating are going to step in to that personal assistant role.

The transformation you are talking about is normal and compared to just a bit of time before that, rather unimpressive. Did I expect nothing to change in 10 years of technological advancement? Of course not, so seeing things like mobile work stations (albeit with computers mind you, still not phones in the work place), isn't that surprising and not much of a prediction. There were much more ambitious predictions by 2016, but we fell well short of them.

You have drifted the conversation to personal computers, although the guy who was apparently mocked you was talking about doing word processing and photo editing on photoshop which is mainly done in the working - so I based my arguements around the complete replacement of computers with phones. I don't believe phones will be what we will use as our main driver at work for a long time.

Anyway even in the personal computer space, most people still have a laptop, tablet or desktop and not just a phone. I think you might know a very special demographic because you mentioned in another thread that you apparently also see Apple watches being worn everywhere - I think most of us don't see that, and I own and use my watch happily. I still get comments in the city of London every time I use my watch to pay for stuff, joking about how I've come from the future

Exactly!

I've never known a headphone design to rely on the wires to hold them in place in your ears?! Plus, unless you leave each AirPod in two different locations, they will be no harder to find than if you misplaced a normal pair of Apple wired headphones. The best part, if you lose them in a box of stuff, THEY WONT GET TANGLED TOGETHER! FINALLY!

I ordered mine and got an email confirmation at 14:25 so it will be interesting to see if Apple stick to the launch date for both of us. Maybe someone should start a UK Dispatch & Shipping thread for these like iPhone 7?

Well, the opinions I have posited so far are based on the items design, which is clearly visible. I feel they look laughably ridiculous. I don't need to use them to ascertain this.

I go further in my posts to say I will wait to see what users say about them, functionality-wise. So I have not formed an opinion one way or the other regarding functionality.

Your post seems like yet another knee-jerk reaction in defense of Apple.

Wondering if I should get the Powerbeats 3 or the AirPods? Or should I still stick to my Jabra Rox Wireless? Dilemma.
Here's my take...
I have Powerbeats 2 and while I like them their design is prone to breakage where the ear bud connects to the body. Mine broke and I've had to crazy glue them back together more than once. Two co-workers have had the same problem. I carry them around in my front pants pocket in the provided case everyday which probably over stressed them leading the the breakage. With the Airpods, there is really no weak joints and the case is a pretty solid cube of plastic. Figure they will hold up to being in my pocket much better when not using them. Also love the fact that you can use only one and the music converts to mono. That will be handy in the office.

Mine will arrive on dec. 20th... bought for the girlfriend but seeing what's happening on eBay... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

These funny things look like emoji with long necks.

They shouldn't be called airpods.

They should be called emojipods!

Anyway we need an app called Find my airpods (or Find my emojipods) in case they fall out.

Apple's AirPods are now available to order from the company's online store for $159.00, following weeks of speculation on exactly when the wireless headphones would launch. Originally, the AirPods were going to debut in "late October," but Apple delayed the launch for unspecified reasons.

In the official press release, Apple mentioned that the AirPods will begin arriving at Apple retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers beginning sometime next week. Shipment will begin in "limited quantities" at launch, and Apple encourages customers to continue checking its online store for updates on availability and shipping estimates.

Now, users can order the Bluetooth-enabled headphones, which provide up to 5 hours of music playback and high-quality sound through a "seamless and automatic connection" between the AirPods and an iPhone. To charge the AirPods, the included travel case doubles as a charging station that provides up to 24 hours of battery life for the headphones.
The new W1 chip inside the AirPods allows for seamless connection with devices in Apple's ecosystem, so that they connect instantly whenever the rechargeable battery case is flipped open near an iOS device. When in the user's ears, the AirPods "know when you are listening" and will subsequently pause music when they're taken out of an ear. Playback controls are left to Siri-enabled voice commands, which are brought up by double-tapping on the buds.

Included with the AirPods is a Lightning cable used to charge the carrying case, and the headphones require Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra. Buy your own AirPods now at Apple.com for $159.00. Deliveries are currently estimated to begin arriving on December 21 in the United States.

Update 7:16 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have slipped to December 29.

Update 7:30 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have now slipped to "4 weeks."

Ordered mine relatively late this afternoon: looking at a 4 week wait for this. Might end up picking up a pair if they are in stores earlier than January 12th.

I've had my share of gluing back my BT headphones & repairs.

I agree that the Airpods will be more solid.

No, I live in that reality and benefit from it. Don't worry, you'll be dragged along into it once the grandma's of the world are talking to their wrists to ask their assistive robots to fetch the laundry basket in the basement.

It's pretty funny how I received something almost exactly like your comment when I predicted in 2007 that the iPhone would inevitably be most people's only computer.

"But how do they get on the web? How do they work with word documents? How do they edit their photos in Photoshop? I need a real computer. You can't do that with a cell phone. You're living in Steve Jobs' reality distortion field"

Lmao - whatever you need to tell yourself hoss

it would be great buy with some accessories which keeps them in place..

Ha ha ha! This is exactly why Apple designs are failures. The public has already condemned the iPhone's design as a failure. How? By burying the vast majority of their "thin, elegant" iPhones in tacky, bulky cases. They have determined that Apple's products can't withstand being used for their primary purpose.

They also carry around power bricks and wads of wire, so they can beg bartenders to plug their iPhones in (or crawl under tables to do so themselves). Why? Because Apple's idiotic and undesired mania for "thinness" has rendered its products essentially DOA because they don't have enough battery to support their advertised uses for half a day.

Its pretty funny because you were completely wrong.

The hilarity of thinking voiced based AI is going to play a major part in the future of computing (not disputing that by the way) and thinking Apple is going to be leading the way. Absolutely nothing suggests that at all.
