What do you think all that vibrating was? It was the camera laser engraving the AirPods image.

That's both perfectly useless and incredible attention to detail.
I wouldn't say useless, if you have more than one set in the house, and are trying to pair in the dark you know if it is your pair, or someone else's. Especially if they all have the same name.

What would be cool is if I could put my emoji on it with out the actual engraving.

Nice attention to detail.

But I would really prefer battery level for each pod to show up on the left and right sides of the drop down “connected” indicator.

That is a very simple but incredibly cool feature. Apple can have some big busts sometimes (AirPods Max charging case, for instance), but more often than not they have really neat and clever ideas.

You can find a use for anything if you are desperate enough.

Very cool. This is the small detailed things that I like about Apple. Glad somebody at Apple still put attention to these things. Hopefully they keep and hire more people with this innate passion into the small details. These kind of things is what Jobs was quite adamant about

Hmm…

I just got mine 30 min ago and didn’t see my engraving show up on the pop up :/

Weird.
When I open my case on the Home Screen to check the battery I’m seeing it now, but it wasn’t there on initial setup. The image of the AirPods, case, and text, also faded in and out a bunch of times before settling to a proper visible state. Kinda buggy but still a pretty cool addition. Hopefully it becomes stable in the future.

I heard from a very reliable source that Tim Cook opted for dollar signs on his AirPods case. I also heard he gives that Tim Cook uneven half smile where you barely see his teeth every time he sees them.

Investing in earbuds and worrying about their "resale" value is not healthy for you... enjoy your earbuds while you can...
I consider resale value when buying just about everything I own. It's very healthy for me and enhances my enjoyment knowing I'm not wasting money.

Bought a brand new M1 Pro 14" full fat laptop knowing it would hold its value and I'm not likely to damage it whereas I rock a used iPhone XS Max I paid half price for 3 years ago because buying a new iPhone carries the risk of damage/loss and significant cost with next to no difference in user experience.

If you're not thinking about the $200-$300 earbuds you buy and how much value they retain when you decide to upgrade, then good for you I guess.

And if having an emoji on your earbud case enhances your enjoyment of your AirPods, well, perhaps therapy is in order.
