system in package is NOT an industry first! My Sony WF-1000XM3 has the ability not only to use both microphones to tune out ambient SOUND or amplify but ALSO TO ADAPT BASED ON WALKING, running, sitting or via public transit communizing which in my experience easily kids the Beats Studio Pro with ANC. If Apple hasn’t improved on those then I’ll not feel any type of ways missing out.

I personally have disabled the adaptive audio on my WF/XM3's (and the 1000X before them) because it usually changes the NR when I don't want it to, and it interrupts the audio stream while it resets. Very annoying.

It's much better to just tap the left unit to open to ambient sound when needed- which is how the Apple units will work.

If (big if, of course) the Apple units have comparable SQ, the easier connectivity with my Apple devices will be appreciated. The much smaller case will also be an improvement.

If the SQ isn't quite up to that of the Sony, they will still have their place for applications where the Sony would be at risk- anything involving sweat or rain. The Sony, after all, has zero water resistance.

So 200 plus tax for the previous gen AirPods with Wireless Charging Case is fine and suddenly you don’t have another 50$ to spend for a Pro Model? Nothing is absurd about the pricing of this new product given what you get for the price.

I’m not mad about the price of the new pods. Just wish the previous gen had received a price drop.

They’re “magical”. Maybe made from unicorns?

Someone, anyone correct me if I’m wrong but ... didn’t the initial Siri Read our messages when asked?!
The very first Siri commercial showed some Caucasian dude running on a board walk with fluffy hair using EarPods with the wire and invoked Siri and said read my last message. Did I imagine this or was it a commercial.

Basically I wasn't fully care of this until my lunch break as I check apple.com. I then order 3 of them and all three are preparing for shipmen.

Why is no one talking about the LATENCY?!?!
It’s so frustrating to use airpods or any wireless earphones because of the latency. If jack isn’t coming back then at least “PRO” must’ve reduced the latency to acceptable levels.

These are the Specs from the Apple Website for the case sizes:

AirPods Pro

Wireless Charging Case
Height: 1.78 inches (45.2 mm)
Width: 2.39 inches (60.6 mm)
Depth: 0.85 inch (21.7 mm)
Weight: 1.61 ounces (45.6 grams)

Airpods

Wireless Charging Case
Height: 2.11 inches (53.5 mm)
Width: 1.74 inches (44.3 mm)
Depth: 0.84 inch (21.3 mm)
Weight: 1.41 ounces (40.0 grams)
So 59.4 vs 50.4 in volume. Not much difference, but slightly bigger.

Ordered these as soon as I woke up in Australia and got delivery on the 31st. Anyone got delivery tomorrow (30th) down here?

On what device? I’ve been using my AirPods and BeoPlays with YouTube, Netflix, etc, on my past iPhone X and now my iPhone 11 Pro, and also MacBook Pro, with no latency. Audio always perfectly matches the video. (I have had some other wireless earbuds (Jaybirds I think) that had latency problems when watching videos. But never Apple AirPods).

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what your issue is...

I can’t decide if I want them! I’ve wanted something like this for a long time but I really want a 16 inch MacBook Pro...

Agreed on the MBP - I'm really really curious to see about the keyboard situation..

I don't really know if I want the AirPodPro's or not yet..

I need to see some reviews in the weeks ahead (and not from "in the bag homers" like Rene Ritchie - useless fanboy crap from him and the like) and maybe try them this holiday season with the generous return window.

I'd also ultimately love to catch a sale on eBay/BB/Costco or similar if I decide they are something I want.

The price is hard to swallow (for me).

My Gen1 AirPods are bordering on useless at this point for battery life. Those were like $150-160? It's hard to get excited about TWO fifty + tax and them being useless garbage after 2-3 years (max).

$250 for (admittedly high-tech and groovy) headphones.

The price of a PS4. A car payment. Depending on your family size, 2 weeks' worth of groceries.

THIS RIGHT HERE is why Apple removed the headphone jack from their phones.

Not innovation (although these are innovative).

Not for lack of space.

And DEFINITELY not for "pushing technology forward".

But in hindsight, I have to give them props:

I was wrong. They really did have "courage". The courage take prices into the stratosphere with a straight face.

And I was wrong about Tim Cook too.

He is a legitimate genius. He IS doing an incredible job.

The Profit Prophet. The Financial Fiddler. The 1-Percenter Pied Piper.

And it burns 'cause I'm the mouse in the mousetrap. Desperately wanting to get away, but unable to resist the cheese 'cause it's so DAMN delicious.

How? 9 hours of listening time from PowerBeats Pro, 4.5 hours from AirPods Pro.
Powerbeats Pro is great in every aspect, (especially the crazy battery life) except the noise isolation part. Despite its size and look, it nearly doesn’t isolate any noise at all and the volume level has to be turned quite high up for me to enjoy music especially in the subway.
So I’m looking forward to the active noise cancellation for the AirPods Pro.

Yeah, trains are bad - but BUSES in Japan are the absolute worst. Some of the bus drivers chatter incessantly on the PA (ostensibly, in an effort to be/appear helpful?) and this is in addition to the automated (pre-recorded) messages which usually state the exact same thing. For example:

Bus Driver: The next stop will be Shinjuku Station. Shinjuku Station. Please disembark here for the JR Lines, Tokyo Metro, blah blah blah. For your your safety, please remain seated or hold on to a hand rail until the bus comes to a complete stop. Thank you for riding today and we look forward to serving you again.

But as soon as he's done, the automated recording comes on and says pretty much the exact same thing!! and this of course is followed by a 'now arriving' announcement, again by the driver and the recording. Followed immediately by the driver thanking each passenger as they exit the bus (all of this, over the ****ing PA) and then the announcement that the bus will be leaving momentarily, then that it IS leaving, then the next stop announcement, ad infinitum.

Actually, I had forgotten how much I hated that, until I started typing - I haven't had to hear it ONCE since the first week of August, when my WF-1000XM3s arrived. It's been absolute BLISS. I hope the new AirPods are at least in the same league ...
Dang your experience is way different than mine (osaka here)
Buses here are super quiet, same for trains

I agree with you on everything. My first gen AirPods are still going strong though.

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro but I really want a better keyboard... it will probably be like $4,900 though, in which case forget it.

Limited edition £300.

Hate to admit I’d pay it.......

Kind of like the SHURE SE215 … a very '90s aesthetic.

THIS RIGHT HERE is why Apple removed the headphone jack from their phones.
Recently learned that Jony Ive did not want an audio jack in the first iPhone! Not sure how he imagined users would listen to music since Bluetooth audio was very sh*tty at the time. Given Job's penchant for wireless solutions, I imagine he was on board but it has taken this long to achieve the required engineering.

Pro. Laughable. Higher tech shouldn’t cost more money. Pro should not mean “more advanced technology.” I shouldn’t have to pay more for a house with more bathrooms or heated floors.

As for the house, you are not supposed to buy a new one every two years and throw away the old one.

If you kill them, you’re doing it wrong.

Pro (rubber) tips:
  • Try to keep both your AirPods, and interrogation subject, to the IPX4 water exposure standards of splashing from any direction.
  • I’d still avoid the full certification procedure that calls for water volume of 10 liters per minute and pressure of 80-100 kN/m² unless you’ve gotten all of the information music you need.
  • Never use Perrier for any of this.
San Pellegrino works better.
The Transparency feature seems like the best of both worlds. I can’t wait to check it out when my AirPods Pro arrive on Thursday.

Makes sense. And I still think the 12” MacBook was the best Mac ever. Wireless is the future.

Jesus Christ. Moan moan moan. You sound like you want them but can’t justify the price.

Competitor products have similar pricing.
If you can’t afford them or justify the cost then pass on it but Christ..... so much drama.

I took my family to a relatively affordable restaurant Saturday. Three entrees, one beer, soft drinks and a kid’s meal. $96 with tip. Could have gone to McDonald’s and fed everyone for $12 off the dollar menu but don’t hate myself that much.

$250... LOL! Apple just keeps pushing that price boundary to the outer limits of ridiculous. And the Apple diehards will pay it, because Apple says the product is magical and so unique. So now we have Air Pods that are approaching the cost of an iPad. Alrighty. Heck, they say ‘Pro’ so that means they’re worth it, right?

Until next year when the next awesome, magical Air Pods are introduced, and those will be even more magical and amazing. $300, they’ll come in green. But green will cost you $350. But they’re magical.

Shut up and take my money!

Ahaha Apple has trained you well.
