I think a lot of it comes from people who are too young to remember the world before everything was available at their fingertips. I mean look at these things! Noise cancelling speakers, microphones, batteries, antennas, microprocessors etc. etc. etc. All in a tiny bud that fits in your ear. And we get "MEH TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!11234" 🤣

It is expensive. Just because technology evolves and technology becomes smaller doesn't mean we have to keep paying more and more. The amount of profit that Apple makes of these products should be a clear indicator. One that would claim otherwise is just.. (not allowed to say it but we all know)

Maybe 'old' people should learn more about tech like young people do. ;)

Ordered. I bought the second generation AirPods with wireless case this summer but, just like all Apple headphones, they don't fit me particularly well and the main place I use them is at the gym. Now, with the sweat/splash resistance and the better fit I finally get the AirPods I wanted.

I couldn't care less about colours and I don't get riled up about the "Pro" name either. It's marketing.

This is exactly what I was waiting for but they're too pricey, I'll wait for the price to go below 200. I don't feel like spending that much for something I could lose and batteries won't last for more than 3 years.

This is not correct. Jabra 65t does not have ANC. After being disappointed in the sonys I am hoping apple can do this right. Sony sound quality was mediocre and lack of sweat proofing is unacceptable.
They use 4 mics to reduce noise from the outside. They also have a "hear through" option. Is that not ANC? Maybe, hell i don't know anymore and feel stupid. But it works for me, works great i might add.

Now, if they actually came in the “transparent” option shown in the component render, maybe just maybe...

Did you read the article, particularly the part about Apple's implementation with Transparency mode?

"A built-in Transparency mode offers users the option to listen to music while still hearing the environment around them, for situations like biking in traffic or listening for an important train message. Transparency mode takes advantage of the vent system in the AirPods to leave just the right amount of noise cancellation. "

I read everything about them. Even still I don’t wouldn’t wear any type of earphone/headphones when walking about. I like to have 100% awareness of my surroundings.

Ordered my AirPod 2's last week and their brilliant. The design of these 'Pro's' with the rubber tips just doesn't do it for me. The only thing i'm interested in hearing is the sound quality.

Yeah. It kinda does. Especially when you factor inflation. Things get more expensive in quite a short period of time. Even packets of crisps (chips).

Oh what?!!! Really? Darn!! I thought these were coming in 4x colors? :(
I don't get Apple.
I just want a nice pair of black or space gray ones.

It’s because of how iconic Apple’s white buds are. Put them out in black and it’s suddenly hard for people to distinguish what others are wearing - you don’t mess with a brand like that.

Gave the past two iPhones a miss - will wait for 5G and notchless screen, but thanks for the new AirPods Apple (but not the price!). Noise cancellation and waterproof in London where we have an extremely noisy (old) metro infrastructure and it rains a lot (more to come with climate change), this was a must have. Also my first gen left pod is no longer working optimally despite cleaning. On another matter, have just disconnected my HomePod to make sure it doesn’t get bricked by the software update :)

To those complaining about the cost. I've had my original AirPods since the 2nd February 2017 which is 999 days. I paid £159 for them and I genuinely use them every single day. That means they've cost me 15.9p per day.
Assuming I keep these new ones for the same amount of time, that means they'll cost me 24.9p per day. I'm not upset about that.

When AirPods were first announced, I'm sure many people looked at them and laughed. I know I did and when I bought them, I fully expected to take them back within the fourteen days for a refund but they very quickly became part of my daily routine.

I've ordered the new AirPods Pro and they'll be delivered tomorrow. I'm looking forward to them arriving.

Assuming the ANC and transparency modes work regardless of what OS your device is running on? Need it to work on android too.
Yes, all the DSP for ANC including the transparency mode is on the AirPod. It doesn’t matter what Bluetooth device is supplying the audio signal.

On what device? I’ve been using my AirPods and BeoPlays with YouTube, Netflix, etc, on my past iPhone X and now my iPhone 11 Pro, and also MacBook Pro, with no latency. Audio always perfectly matches the video. (I have had some other wireless earbuds (Jaybirds I think) that had latency problems when watching videos. But never Apple AirPods).

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what your issue is...

When I use AirPods with my iPhone, there’s a lag between the time I tap on music control buttons and the time that button actually works (play, pause, next, etc). When playing games, the latency is most visible. The gun fire & the sound of it.
The latency in watching videos is not present because Apple compensates it and delays the video to sync with audio in AirPods.
The latency is not very high but high enough to irritate. It’s somewhere near 200-250ms if I’m not wrong.

The tech in this is pretty incredible. Go buy some wired earbuds with noice cancellation if you can’t afford or want to pay for this. My old AirPods 1st gen lasted me from launch to now. I definitely got my $200 use out of them
Me too, but its was $159

Exactly. Not going to mess with brand recognition to die for that has been built up since the iPod. And as for the new design being ugly, we had the exact same thoughts with the AirPod. In London at least they now seem to be “must have” - Ives parting hit design, although not sure if he had much to do with the latest iteration.

Nope.... the mics are used for hear-thru and voice calls. ANC with active being the key word uses reverse signals to cancel outside noises.
