Oh no! Did I offend your favorite company (by pointing out that they're profit driven) so you had to come to their defense like a knight in expensive armor? Such drama indeed!

And how DARE you besmirch the name of the venerable McDonald's! When you want a Big Mac, nothing else will do. Even Tony Stark wanted a BK double cheeseburger.

But seriously, it's cool if you want to blow $250 on some (again, very, very nice) headphones.

If you can afford it, go for it. Buy the most expensive car and biggest, most expensive mansion you can afford while you're at it. And the yacht, get the yacht. The biggest one they make. It doesn't matter that you don't need it. I mean, you earned it, right?

Live a little!

It's exactly because I make smart choices with what to do with my money that I can click "buy now" on a $250 pair of headphones that hit the market just because I want them and not moan that they are $50 overpriced compared to competitor products.

I'll give you a free tip. Save up your money and pay cash for everything you can. With the exception of a home where you can write off the interest as a tax deduction.

I've eaten a hell of a lot of ramen noodles in my life and at one point had three roommates in a 1000 sq foot apartment... not because I had to but because it was the financially frugal smart thing to do at that time before I had wife + kids.

You sound like an entitled millennial moaning about others have it better than you with zero understanding that people live "poor" for years or even decades to eventually be able to buy what they want when they want to buy it. Bonus points that they choose difficult careers in high paying industries instead of studying underwater basket weaving at $50K a year Rip You Off University (RYOU).

So yeah, I'll pay the Apple tax and I won't moan about it. If enough people don't think it's worth it then Apple will be forced to drop the price, as they did with the crappy HomePod.

//aside

AirPods Gen 2s just sold for a bit over $100 so the upgrade from the old ones to the new ones cost me about $150. I believe I paid $129 or something for the Gen 2s.

Pro was first used on the Macbooks to distinguish between the polycarbonate MacBooks and the aluminium models which were MacBooks Pros in the mid 2000’s when the naming of the notebooks switched from iBooks and PowerBooks to reflect the switch from Power PC CPUs to Intel.

So the term used to actually mean professional back in the day. There was a clear distinction between the MacBooks and the Pro models. Pro models had much more powerful hardware for professionals.

The way Apple is just applying it to everything now is stupid. If they are trying to bring some cohesion to the product line they could have come up with something a lot better. There’s no such thing as a pro phone or pro earphones. iPad you can maybe understand because it’s leaning more toward being a laptop replacement and the Pro distinction makes more sense.
My takeaway from this is that aluminum is a pro feature.

I think you are confusing airpods vs Sony........Airpods are average sounding earbuds.
I owned the sony and returned them because the sq was average. I agree that airpods are average too but I am hopeful that the pros best the sony for sq.

They still work as normal Bluetooth devices but you won’t get the advanced noise cancellation features.
This is not correct. ANC will work on android. It is enabled on the stem. The control center features will not work.

Bose Soundsports are $200.
Jaybirds Vistas $200.
Jabra Elite Active 65T $189.

that $50-$60 apple tax is just killing me. Especially when I think of how seamlessly my Apple devices work together.

None of these models have active noise cancellation though. Apples to Oranges.

So the $60 tax to get ANC is a huge plus and makes the Airpods seem like a much better deal.

Good point, I thought those other ones were ANC as well but it appears the only real competition is the Sony earbuds which get mediocre reviews and are priced at $229.

I’ve been waiting for an update, where is the Black option so I can finally get a pair?

Those are not available in this version of the multiverse.

LOL! Is today Opposite Day?
No, the notion that the “Pro” moniker has been intended by Apple to strictly mean “for professionals” is incongruent with how they’ve actually applied it over the years. That’s because the “Pro” name has signified that the product is made for people who want the best version of a given Apple product, whether that’s the MacBook, the iMac, the iPad, and on down the list. Whether the “Pro” version is actually enough for a self-styled professional to use as their daily driver is an entirely different matter — see the iPad Pro and iMac Pro.

Then you are clearly didn’t read the whole text.
No, I did. You differentiated the MacBook Pro by saying that it was made of aluminum (direct quote, emphasis mine):

Info on App Store order status says may be 24 hours before tracking data. It was 2:43 AM I got the shipping so it may be then before tracking works on UPS. There is a number but UPS says it does not currently have any info on the shipment. At least order in email says no signature required (hopefully) but would love to verify that on UPS page.

just received tracking number from Apple, says delivery will be the 30th instead of the 31st...
Click to see if it’s valid. I got my email yesterday but UPS still shows no record of the tracking number. I seriously doubt it shows tomorrow

One thing I don't understand is why Apple switched from a tap to a squeeze for changing the song and pausing. It seems so much less intuitive.

Looks like mine are here tomorrow as well, one day early. Just got shipping notification.

money possible explanation is that tapping could jostle them enough to mess with the noise canceling.

Actually I used to sell headphones so it was literally my job to be on top of the market. People can do what they want with their money, but over $300 for audio equipment should get you something that lasts more then two years. Am I saying these won’t be popular? No. But its disingenuous to say that these are even considered high end or offer more then $225 more value then Airdots (which are also true wireless earbuds with tiny batteries that will die in a few years).
Umm ok if u say so ..👌🤷‍♂️
