It's about time Apple releases airpods with rubber tips that might actually live up to their original (embarrassing) marketing video. But at this rumoured price point, despite that I have no doubt they'll sell millions, I feel it's a too little too late for too much scenario (for me) and there are far more reasonable alternatives available. These are not magical, super-complicated, and/or innovative devices with high manufacturing costs and tiny profit margins. $100 USD is more than enough for earbuds including a wireless charging case.

I have over a half-dozen Apple devices in my home currently. Airpods aren't and won't be one of them.

I'll stick with Rolling Square's Hyphens from their indiegogo campaign. The quality in every regard was so fantastic that I'm eagerly awaiting future releases. That I can order several pairs over several years for the same price as one pair of airpods is a pretty solid bonus.

Do yourselves a favour before you jump on the airpods bandwagon and hunt around. Apple is playing catch-up with the earbud market in terms of quality and design, but still charging an insane premium. Ignore the marketing drivel. Save your $$$.

There is a reason you see everyone with name making headphones. Small pieces of plastic that sell for same price as a 46” tv.
I also owned 2 pair of airpods and think the product went from better to bad to worse. The ease of use Connectivity is now more difficult than other brands.
Battery on first pair lasted 1 1/2 year.
You can find 2$ chinese headphones with build quality on par with 200$ pairs. I know sound quality is not the same but the better driver will never account for the 198$
When you pay for airpods you pay for some innovation but now it seems like you no longer get innovation for your money.. now you have to pay a pro price for that innovation but then what am i paying for with a non pro airpod?

Hopefully they'll finally have a rubber earpiece that will offer more comfort and prevent them from coming out so easily... kind of like my $10 amazon headphones have had for 15 years. Nothing like shoving a hard piece of non-ergonomic plastic in your ear. "These hurt like heck, but I'm gonna look really cool wearing them". I realize they work with some people but AirPods don't work for everyone.

But they don't.
To each his/her own, but I've never felt they looked very cool, but instead rather dorky. As you said, there are cheaper alternatives that do the job and frankly look and feel better.

If we’re already seeing leaks from the production line, I would think a launch this year is likely. I can’t think of many times we see production line leaks 5-6 months in advance of a launch.

So hesitant to release them in black but so quick to release them in that hideous green

My #1 hope is for at least ~9 hours battery life. I'm planning to run a 5-hour marathon in January (I'm not fast LOL), and the current AirPod battery life of 4-5 hours would not last me long enough.

I just hope the water resistance is good enough to prevent the ends from corroding. My sweat from my runs combined with the charging current ruin the ends and the mic.

I call BS on the green. Black seems logical, obviously white will be back, but green? Doubt it. I think the AirPods will probably remain fairly ‘classic’ in terms of colors they offer if they expand.

I want all the benefits of these rumored AirPods Pro, but I DO NOT want the rubber tips. I seriously hope that they refresh the original AirPods or offer a version without the rubber tips. It’s a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I haaaaaate those rubber tips (from any manufacturer, not just Apple). To me having the rubber tips just overcomplicates things. But even more importantly (at least for my smallish ears) they simply don't stay put well. The first gen Airpods stayed put reasonably well, but I must say that the original circular iPod earbuds (at least the ones that came out in the latter 00's, see pic below) were the best fit for me. I know it will never happen but I would love it if Apple came out with 'retro' bluetooth earbuds that matched the original earbuds. Call them the AirPod classics.

I think $260.00 is overpriced for Bluetooth earphones (even 'Pro' ones, whatever that means), and then to tack on the rubber tips.. heck no.

I can imagine them trying out 8 colors (which supply chain sources might possibly hear about), but I have a hard time believing Apple would release them in 8 colors on launch day.

Look beautiful, but I am afraid they wouldn’t stay in my ears and I would lose or damage them. And that risk just isn’t worth it to me.

just when we thought the label "pro" had reached a new low, we get these to lower the bar even further
Just think of ‘pro’ as ‘plus’ - It’s only intended to denote a higher spec version - not that these headphones are intended to be used by professional head phone users...

Seeing as they are likely in ear they will do....

What would lead you to believe that the first GEN AirPods wouldn’t stay in the ears? I mean, Apple is pretty much using the same design as the wired EarPods, and I suspect those fit the majority of consumers out there. I think the AirPods are not a ‘perfect’ fit for everyone, but they probably are compatible with the majority of ears. I doubt Apple will change the design hardly at all for in terms of fitment.

well, i do alot of sports, and airpods definitely don’t stay in my ears reliably. Many of my friends have the same prob. These “pro” earpods seem to be more “in” the ear so perhaps they will be better. Will wait and see. Also curious about the battery life. The stems seem a lot shorter, so i assume the battery is smaller. Hope it doesn’t effect battery life too much. Otherwise I am leaning towards the powerbeat pros.
