The Beats Wireless Pro still has these beat
I have only tried the navy Powerbeats Pro but they are very good. Use them everyday @ the gym for about 1 hour paired to my AW4 with no issues once I got the tips right. Thought that I might long for EQ functionality but there is nice separation and natural low/mid/high action. And I’m moving across 5 different genres.

I believe people will want others to know they have the pro model. Some will buy it for this reason alone.

Or maybe they'll buy them just because they want them, and then other people will project their own insecurities onto them? 🧐

I'm awaiting these with interest. Very likely to purchase a pair to replace my v1.0. Nice to know some folk will be walking around thinking that I'm showing off my Pros 😭

well, i do alot of sports, and airpods definitely don’t stay in my ears reliably. Many of my friends have the same prob. These “pro” earpods seem to be more “in” the ear so perhaps they will be better. Will wait and see. Also curious about the battery life. The stems seem a lot shorter, so i assume the battery is smaller. Hope it doesn’t effect battery life too much. Otherwise I am leaning towards the powerbeat pros.

What’s making you lean towards the Powerbeats Pro? I’m on the fence between the two and would love to hear thoughts! :)

In two minds

Black will be great, so will noise cancellation

but: larger charging case so won’t fit in coin pocket which is hugely convenient; not sure how they’ll fit - silicon IEM seem to push out of my ears and they’ll surely be less ‘invisible’ than AirPods - I often forget I’m wearing those

My #1 hope is for at least ~9 hours battery life. I'm planning to run a 5-hour marathon in January (I'm not fast LOL), and the current AirPod battery life of 4-5 hours would not last me long enough.

you might get lucky - they’ll have to boost efficiency or battery size to counter the increased power needed for noise cancellation. I expect they’d aim for same as AirPods with NC, so quite a bit longer with NC off

No, no, please, no. What is the point of making multiple colours, when, we all know, interesting and exotic colours (midnight green, black, gold) will be made is small quantities and barely anybody will be able to buy them before May 2020. As every time- low quantities, demand higher as expected, out of stock, sold out etc...

The “Pro” moniker is being abused now.

First we had a Pro iPad, which was fine as it had extra features (keyboard, pencil, ProMotion, etc). Then they brought those features to the entry level models, apart from ProMotion, yet kept the Pro line up anyway.

Now we have Pro phones? Pro headphones? What next? Pro mice? Pro keyboards? Pro watch straps?

It's been going on for a long time. Son'y's PS4 Pro. Volvo's R-Design Pro trim specification. I'm sure there are more. I wouldn't worry about it. It just means a higher-tier model. It's pretty pointless getting hung up on the inference of it meaning Professional. Even in the context of Apple, I'm not sure it ever meant that. My understanding is that it was always Pro-sumer? A more discerning consumer?

With any luck this is untrue. Those... things... are fugly beyond comprehension and look incredibly uncomfortable. A poor replacement to how comfortable the current model of ear/AirPods.

agreed. My favorite comment on macrumors ever was when a poster said ‘pro is short for profit’

I hope these have "pro" sound tuning. More leaning to reference sound, without overbloated bass. If that happens (less likely), I will be buying.

AirPods are IMO Apple’s best product over the last few years, but having bought mine day 1 and used daily since, battery time isn’t as great and ANC would be so sweet.
So I’d love to get one of these, preferably sooner rather than later.

I want all the benefits of these rumored AirPods Pro, but I DO NOT want the rubber tips. I seriously hope that they refresh the original AirPods or offer a version without the rubber tips. It’s a deal breaker for me.

I wonder if the rubber tips are essential to noise canceling. I have small ear canals so rubber tips never fit and a source of irritation. It might be a deal breaker for me also.

So long as the pro models offer something extra over and above the base model, why not?

At least there is some internal consistency here. MBP is a souped up Macbook, the iPad Pro is an improved iPad, the 11 pro has a better camera and screen than the 11, and so on and so forth.

I think people are reading too much into the pro moniker.

Agreed. AirPods are a nightmare in windy conditions outdoors. Particularly walking into headwinds. ANC would be a boon with a better ear seal. My batteries are also struggling now. These could be just what I'm looking for. Hopefully in time for Christmas 🎅🎄

That's one reason I switched from Jaybirds to AirPods. But, I hesitated to switch because the Apple wired EarPods are uncomfortable after a few minutes. Guess I will have to see how these fit.

eta: The rubber tips also fall off after a while.

What makes these “pro” justifying $250? The price of the AirPods is maxed out for functionality, at least in my evaluation.

I said the same thing the other day. However, at one point Pro did mean PROFESSIONAL. Mac Pro was really for people working on large projects that needed a lot of power. Final Cut Pro. Logic Pro. Etc. Even the MacBook Pro was priced much higher back in the day than the MacBook.

But like you said, it’s just a name and marketing. Idc if they call it “Pro”. Even if they didn’t, it would still be priced higher and called something else Lol.
