It might sound like sour grapes but when I see people completely clueless about tech getting early previews of products just because they have lots of YT or IG followers I cringe.
I'm not complaining--I'm happy Apple's doing this. I am tired of the same Apple bloggers and publication writers---they act like a high school cliq. You should see some of them on Twitter.

Just ordered these from Amazon. The originals never stayed in my ear well so I'm hoping for improvements in this regard. And better sound quality and active noise cancellation sounds good, too. I just would have loved to see a matte black option and physical volume controls.

amazing how nobody commits to commenting on sound quality. It's like they are scared of being honest or their own opinion. MKBHD's only comment was not bad. What does that mean? He compared the noise cancellation to the beats but how about the sound quality of the airpod pros. Bass, transparency, even a few sentences would help.

These are the rush to be first to show I have the new one's video. You will see deeper views later in the week.

YouTube tech channels are amazing. MKBHD, Linus Tech Tips, Unbox Therepy, Rene Ritchie, Austin Evans, Jonathan Morrison Dave Lee are brilliant at what they do. Even iJustine has become watchable and interesting as she is producing some good informative content.
True. All the more reason to give them the first crack. The people who can afford the products have access to the high speed bandwidth needed to watch and the content is just a Hell of a lot more interesting than five paragraphs on DaringFireball.

Hmmm, so now I'm torn between these (pros, small, wear in public. Cons, I don't have much luck with in ear, breathing makes them fall out)

Bose 35II. (pro, over ear, cons don't want to look like a hipster in public)

or wait for the rumoured Apple branded headphones. (pros, will probably be top dog, cons, may never exist, even through Kuo says so)

Decisions, decisions......

What are the chances they release a black color option? And when do you think that would happen?

The real question is, has Apple done anything to improve battery longevity? I'm okay with paying $250 for a high quality, premium product, but I'm not okay with the product dying and needing replacement after only two years.

I still have and use Sennheiser headphones from 10 years ago and they work great. Even my five year old Bose bluetooth headphones have had great battery longevity. Apple needs to step up here; hopefully they did.

Their strict contracts with Apple only allow comments about "unboxing" and "impressions" to be made. Nothing that can be considered a "review".

The point is to generate hype not informed decisions.

Big question is how do they actually sound though? AirPods sounded rubbish, the PowerBeats Pro sound quite good - i'd take that sound in a new Apple product - I love the PowerBeats Pro but as someone who doesn't really use them for working out, the ear hooks annoy me a bit.
I think rubbish is a bit harsh.

Will they be as good as over-ear drivers? No, it's down to laws of physics, they can't physically move enough air. Compared to other headphones of their size, they sound pretty good to me. When I want comfort and excellent sound quality, I have a set of over-ears which I use at work. My AirPods are pocketable, so the two sets satisfy two different requirements. :)

In-ear is a no no for me, I don't want to dull one sense completely whilst running/cycling. Original airpods are perfect for me.

I believe Transparency mode addresses your concerns. The air vents allow sound to pass through. From the Tech Specs page: "Press and hold to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode."

I think that's accurate. It's also a higher bandwidth thing for people. Much faster to watch a 7.5 minute video than to spend the time reading through something written by Tech Crunch or something.

I feel the opposite. Much faster to skim through an article than listen to some obnoxious dude ramble on for 7 minutes, only 30 seconds of which is the content you’re looking for. But each to their own.

I noticed no one is really comparing them to the gold standards of noise canceling e.g. Bose. I had The qc30 before upgrading to the qc35 which is fantastic to fly with. Hoping the real reviewers comment on this wrt other products

Can everyone stop bitching about YouTubers? Yes, WE are old, you may not get it. It’s the „Circle of life“ (that’s a „the lion king“ reference, in case you are even older than that). Go back to reading a review and let’s move on :) also these are first „impression“ videos. Being first to generate views to generate $ is important when you are in that business.

The real reviews come later. Apple probably put an contractual embargo (is that the correct term) on it for another week.

I am personally delighted she tested them on a plane already. I hate that annoying noise and if they really filter it out as she claims. Awesome

There's no possibility of stepping up or doing something here – it's simple physics and current state of battery technology ... The batteries in the Airpods – in comparison to your Sennheisers and Boses over- or on-ears – are much more tiny, need to be charged much more often and there's nothing you can do to avoid significant wear (meaning: much shorter playback time) after 2-3 years of normal use. Apple could offer a very cheap exchange / upgrade program for people who bought Airpods (which they won't do), but there's no "technical" solution until there's a significant evolution in battery technology.

I wouldn’t be concerned, they’re being released tomorrow. There will be plenty of reviews in the coming days. If you’re using YouTube to make buying decisions, you’re doing it wrong.

I will be VERY surprised if the small in-ear Airpods Pro are playing in the same league of the Bose or Sony over-ear flagships when it comes to noise cancelling – but if these things can match the WH-1000MX3, we are entering a new era of noise cancelling technology and I'll definitely buy a pair of Airpods Pro as soon as posible!
