I really love the earpods design but £159 for a wireless version. No thanks.

I bought a pair of Beats X and they suck (although 11.0.1 may have fixed some pairing issues). Sound quality is average and none of the ear plugs fit my ears! Earpods fit perfect but no isolation/noise cancellation. Same for airpods, so pretty pointless commuting.

Using a pair of Shure SE215 for now. Love the convenience of the Beats X though but they don't work as flawlessly as Apple would promote!
I feel you, but it’s some of the best money you’ll spend. AirPods are easily one of the best devices I’ve ever bought, and I use them everyday, sometimes multiple times. They’re that good. Of course, YMMV, but the vast majority of owners love them, with which I agree.

Yes, but when will they begin to ship with the wireless charging case? That’s why we actually care about.

I don’t care about the case. I just need the replacement for the one I lost to show up soon.

I have a pair of bluetooth JBL Everest 100 earbuds that have the wire that connects between them so not a true wireless. Are these worth the 159? My JBLs were 80 on sale last year so not sure if double the price is worth it for the removal of the wire between the buds.

How odd, i bought some Beats X and they are the best earphones i have ever had, lots of base, which makes trance music great and fit me great.

Why care about the wireless charging case if the AirPower mat isn't even coming until 2018?
Because I plan on my wife having them for more than 6 months...obviously. I’ve had mine for 9 and there is no reason to update them for a case. But it’d be stupid to get another pair that is old

No need to care about out until the charging pad arrives which is next year.
Do you think that the airpods have a lifespan of less than 6 months?

Disagree. The majority of AirPods owners care about using lightning to charge the AirPods. You have to remember, the Airpower is a stationary device and will be more applicable for at home or at the office. Where the AirPods, are highly more portable and most will have access to a lightning cable and outlet for a quick charge.

Plus, you have to factor in the charging case is going to cost an additional $69 and then the Air power will likely cost somewhere around $130-$200. UnLess someone has an Apple Watch Series 3 or iPhone 8/iPhone X, that's an expensive accessory to want to charge the AirPods.
Wrong. Unless you’ve heard something that I haven’t, Apple will at some point begin to ship airpods with the new case. The case is only extra if you want to upgrade your old case

ha that's annoying. They've been sufficiently waitlisted I didn't buy any, now they are finally in stock and available at our (new) Apple Store .. I'm put off by the thought there's a version 2 just about to arrive.

Because buying them now when we don't know if there is an option to buy them already in the case is stupid if you plan on getting the wireless case anyway. Hell, if you've waited this long to order them, wait a couple more months.

Exactly.

If there was a ver 2.0 coming out soon wouldn't they have announced it when they revealed the wireless charging case and the iphones?

Verizon had them in stock when I ordered my Apple Watch, so there are some available in the retail channels beyond just the Apple Store.
This. Verizon also had a buy two get $50 back sale just a few weeks ago. They arrived overnight and the $50 Visa card about two weeks after that. Definitely a transformative device, they've supplanted about all of my other headphones, except for the over the ear phones used for strenuous work (e.g. shoveling snow).

congrats apple, it only took you 9 months to reach this point (I'm not counting the months it took to even release the product). Just in time for the NEW wireless case to come out.
Another perspective:

Congrats Apple for making an explosively popular accessory at such an unexpectedly competitive price point that people snapped them up faster than you could make them, with this success all the more impressive coming as it does in the congested earbud product space.

Just sayin’.

I believe the wireless case can also use lightening.

The $69 for the wireless case that’s been suggested is the same price Apple charges for a non wireless replacement case too from what I read a few weeks back. That’s a good indicator that there won’t be any additional cost for new buyers when Apple all but certainly switches to packing the wireless compatible case in by default. That’s why people want to wait for the case, so they get it without paying an additional $69 down the line for a second case. I know I’d rather wait.

As for AirPower, I doubt it’ll be cheap but any price currently is pure speculation. I’m sure people could use alternative Qi chargers if they wanted too.

The MR author of this article should keep it handy so this time next year they can just replace “AirPods” & dates with “iPhone X” and dates and call it a day.

Can you live with me, at least until Trump leaves office, I need your irrational optimism in my life :)

It’s bizarre that many third-party retailers have had AirPods in stock for a few months now; yet Apple is unable to get its own product in stock for immediate pickup or next day delivery.

“Explosively popular” is a bit hyperbolic, but they are competitively priced. They did fly off the shelf this past year because of the price as much as Apple Stores only got a couple dozen in every few weeks. Much of the hard to get was production based. I had to exchange two pairs before <knock on wood> I got a pair that wasn’t flakey.

if someone really wanted them they have been available in many stores. looks like the shortage is only on the apple online store

just an FYI - local target I was in yesterday had 4 pairs sitting in the case. Check if you really want them ASAP.

The Apple stores near me have them in stock too.
[doublepost=1506516776][/doublepost]So I bought a pair a couple weeks ago but ended up returning them. The sound on them is great. They had deep bass. The problem was they would come loose in my ears every so often and I'd have to keep pushing them back in. After wearing them for more than an hour I found they started to hurt. I chalk this up to my ears personally. Some people they fit in perfectly and comfortably but for whatever reason, they don't sit well in my ears.

I’m just stuck with the 159.00 price tag. It’s a bit pricey!

I hear this all the time but the competition is in the same range and in a lot of cases more expensive. If you dont need fully wireless you can save a lot of money by going to the "wireless but wire in-between the buds" route. If you care about the easy pairing and connection from W1 there is added value there.

Bragis are 150-200, Apollos are 200-250, skybuds are 200+, sol republic are 120-180. I think for what they are apple priced them well.

The Samsung gear iconx has recently come down in price to 100-150 so thats probably your best bet for cheap wireless buds.

There are 10 Apple stores within 20 miles of me. Every single one has them in stock right now and has for many weeks/months.
