Wrong. Unless you’ve heard something that I haven’t, Apple will at some point begin to ship airpods with the new case. The case is only extra if you want to upgrade your old case

Please re-read what I quoted. That doesn't make what I stated wrong. I indicated if someone wants to upgrade to the charging case, they have the option to do so for $69.00, aside from the separate purchase of the Airpower for X amount of dollars. I was showing the cost of the price point difference. It doesn't apply to new Airpod owners, because the new battery case is NOT available yet.

Except of course that you use an Xi charging mat which can be had for much cheaper. Plus it's rather more likely that all AirPods might come with the wireless charging case anyway once that case is ready. Do you think Apple would force people that want to wireless charing case to buy two cases (one non-wireless-charging coming with the AirPods + the wireless-charging one)?

Except for those who want the Airpower to charge all three devices with the Apple Watch, Airpods and iPhone is a much more enticing advantage over the Xi wireless charging. Not to mention, The Airpower will likely be more well made and it's exclusive to Apple.

But for The majority of AirPod owners, they own the previous battery case. So that means the consumer will have to upgrade to the wireless one at some point for $69 IF they want the wireless capability. It's still going to be cost related no matter which way you factor it.

When I see statements when someone says "Do you think Apple can force", Apple can't force anyone to do anything. It's strictly optional on how somebody wants to spend their money regardless of when they upgrade to something. As in the case for the AirPod battery case, it's going to be a separate purchase for somebody who already owns the AirPods, New owners shouldn't be factored yet, because all who own the Airpods, have the non-charging case. Plus, then you have the purchase of the Airpower for those who want it. And I Would say The majority who upgrade To the Airpower, will likely take advantage of the multiple charging devices at once simultaneous charging.

I really love the earpods design but £159 for a wireless version. No thanks.

I bought a pair of Beats X and they suck (although 11.0.1 may have fixed some pairing issues). Sound quality is average and none of the ear plugs fit my ears! Earpods fit perfect but no isolation/noise cancellation. Same for airpods, so pretty pointless commuting.

Using a pair of Shure SE215 for now. Love the convenience of the Beats X though but they don't work as flawlessly as Apple would promote!
I use Shure SE315 and I've basically resigned myself to the fact that not much will come even close to that sound quality, with a set of Sony MDR-1000X for travelling. Rather than spend Airpod/Beat money on a wireless pair for the gym, I got a pair of Sony wireless ones for £25 from £50 and haven't looked back. In the gym all that matters is volume and how stable they are, looks are at the very bottom of the list when I'm blowing out my arse!

With my new Apple Watch, now I’m circling around these. But I gotta see if a new iteration does something about the design. I see all the rave reviews for them, but I just can’t. I can’t walk around looking like that CNET guy.

In Sweden I had to pay 200€ for AirPods or I would have had the option to wait 5weeks for 30€ less in price. (Bought 2-3months ago)
AirPods are the best apple product since the iPhone. It is so seamless and just works. The one Apple product that is , as apple calls it, Magical.

AirPods are easily worth their price.

I bought a pair at AT&T last week when I bought my iPhone 8. One of the best purchases I’ve made in awhile. They are great when I’m working out and they are pretty snug in my ears.

I have a pair of BeatsX and never had pairing issues. I use them most of the time with my iPhone but sometimes I connected them to the Mac.
What problems did you experience?
The standard ear plugs fit my ears pretty well, but everyone is different so they may not work for you. I bought them for noise isolation and that's the main reason why I didn't go for the AirPods, they can fit my ears but they would be useless during my daily commute
I tried the Beats X and depending on how deep they push into your ears, you may get decent sound, or muffled sound. The sound overall, though, is like a slightly muffled version of Powerbeats 3.

I had the PB3 and lost them. Loved them except for the cord sticking to my neck all the time.

I tried the Beats X. Once I tried the shorter cord versions of wireless headphones, the Beats X cord was just a little too much to to throw into a pocket quickly and just a bit too “messy” when trying to work out with them.

I also have Beats Studio Wireless 2 which have heavy sound but crappy noise cancelling, and the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 which has GREAT noise cancelling but a much more even toned output.

Funny thing is, the Bose connect the fastest to my iPhone 7 Plus. As soon as I flip the power switch, I hear a battery level and what device I am connected to via a female voice from the headphones.

Just ordered mine for pick up today at Best Buy. Used my reward money. I was gonna wait for the AirPod 2 if they come with black color but appearently that’s not the case. Sony wf 1000x was also my choice, but it’s $50 more, and won’t be released until 10/28.

Hey, nice tip, wasn't aware of those Sonys.
Although I agree with people above that the pricing is premium for such a product (wireless earbuds). Puts me off all the time. And I don't care about how the competition is being priced. The AirPods have an estimated $56 manufacturing cost. Add $100 to that? Too much. Imho.

That CNET guy is looking weird because AirPods are moving away from his body.

Except that this whole discussion very much includes new owners of Airpods, as in, "Fine, I now can buy AirPods without a wait, but that doesn't interest me because I am waiting for the case with wireless charging before I buy my AirPods".

I love mine. The battery lasts forever and I can use them the whole length of my house and outside while my phone is on the table. I use them at work most! It's great to have a single ear pod in while the base sits charging the other ear for easy switch. I answer the phone a lot so having it pause the screen while I answer and resume upon placing the pod back in is my favorite feature. I'll upgrade to a new version next year and pass down my current ear pods to my daughter! I received them as a gift last Christmas and they remain my favorite gift of the year.

Manu, I can accept if you want to have a discussion about this, but at least address the previous points that I directed towards you. It makes for more of a useful discussion. Now with this tangent that you're on, the fact of it is, a hunter percent of the AirPod current owners have to upgrade to the current charging device for $69 in order to actually use or take advantage of the Wirless charging, especially if they already own an Apple Watch and or iPhone 8/X, they have the ability to take advantage of the Airpower for charging all three devices. Its the cost related factors behind it. Regardless of when Apple ships the new AirPod Case, that has nothing to do with the current owners that don't have that capability as of yet.

Plus, you have to factor in the charging case is going to cost an additional $69 and then the Air power will likely cost somewhere around $130-$200. UnLess someone has an Apple Watch Series 3 or iPhone 8/iPhone X, that's an expensive accessory to want to charge the AirPods.

That's the reason people want to buy the AirPods with the new case. to save the $69.

$69 is the price you currently pay for a new non wireless charging case if you happen to lose or break yours. When the new charging case comes out it will cost the same and just replace it, It will also most likely end up being sold with AirPods at the current 159 price once Apple has gone through their current case stock.

lol wishful thinking. Don't you know Apple at all?
new function = more $$$
They already announced the price. It's coming in at the same $69 price as the current AirPods case when released.

This is the same as when they released the new Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and bluetooth keyboard with lightning charging port. the new devices just replaced the old ones and eventually started shipping with iMacs once their stock of non lightning accessories was depleted.

I don't recall ever seeing Apple announce that price. There have been plenty of rumors stating that the new case will be priced at $69, but do we have that in writing from Apple?

The other day, I took an iPhone 7 in to the San Francisco Apple Store for repair. As I was sitting there in the headphone section, I was waffling back and forth between buying a pair of AirPods for my wife or not. They had just put in a fresh stock on the shelf. I made a remark to the employee that they are in shoe supply, and he agreed. He said they are finally able to put them on the shelves. I grabbed a box off the shelf to hold on to as I was making my mind up. As I was waiting for my appointment, I saw people taking the remainder boxes off the shelf one by one. Within 20 minutes, they were out of stock again.

If current Airpods owners want to get the wireless charging case, they can sell their existing case for probably not a big discount. That's how life has always been, if a new version of a product you own comes out with new features, you can upgrade to it by paying the difference between what the previous version is still worth and what the new version costs. The smaller the differences between the two versions are, the smaller the upgrade 'fee'.

This applies to charging mats as well, you can get one version now and then upgrade to a better version when the AirPower mat comes out. And given that this is Apple, buying two third-party charging mats now might cost about same as buying the AirPower mat in six months from now.

I hummed and hawed about buying these, as after tax, they are $250 CAD. Ridiculous.

I did get them though, and after a few weeks, I'll say they are one of the best bits of electronics I've bought in a while. Sound is average at best if using one earpod, but the range, convenience and function all makes up for it. With both in use, I'm happy with the sound and fit. I can get a ridiculous range of at least 50 meters from my desk if I wanted to. I can't be bothered to deal with older headphones with a cable dangling in the way, or isolation that I can't hear others or phones in the office. These are a perfect compromise.

So, I ordered a pair on September 20th, and that order still says that it will deliver between October 5th-9th. But if I place a new order, I'll get them between October 4th-6th? Come on...

walked into an Apple Store on 9/23 to return a watch sport loop, walked out with a set of AirPods 5 minutes later.
Best. Decision Ever.

I'll admit that EarPods always hurt my left ear (right was fine) these are similar but are awesome since they don't have the chord tugging at my ears. Still have my 3 year old set of the Apple in ear headphones (that are half the price of AirPods) for when I want to go back to wired. still "training" my left ear I may have found the best fit for me today) but I use the double tap on the right to go to the next track and left to go to the previous track - I love, love, love how the music pauses when you take one AirPod out. Oh and calls are crystal clear. Definitely worth the price for sure! battery life is stellar and the case charges them fast. (I had BeatsX and returned them after a week.)
