I use my AirPods on the train and in planes all the time. It doesnt have noise cancelling or isolation but its definitely good enough where I dont carry a second set of earphones.
You must have the volume turned up pretty high then. I tried the earpods on the bus and unless I turn the volume up really high I can't hear anything.

Just ordered mine for pick up today at Best Buy. Used my reward money. I was gonna wait for the AirPod 2 if they come with black color but appearently that’s not the case. Sony wf 1000x was also my choice, but it’s $50 more, and won’t be released until 10/28.

I have a pair of BeatsX and never had pairing issues. I use them most of the time with my iPhone but sometimes I connected them to the Mac.
What problems did you experience?
The standard ear plugs fit my ears pretty well, but everyone is different so they may not work for you. I bought them for noise isolation and that's the main reason why I didn't go for the AirPods, they can fit my ears but they would be useless during my daily commute

With iOS11, switching devices would fail half the time. No option for them when clicking the airplay option. The only fix was to either reset them (hold power and vol down for 10 secs) or to repair them. So, they ended up working like any other bluetooth pair of headphones.

iOS11 was updated yesterday so I will see if they work any better.

To hear anything I need the volume set to about 85% with the earpods. With the Shure's about 15%. There's a big difference.

If apple bring out a better version with noise cancellation (how would they fit it all in?) I might be tempted but for now, no.

Yes, but when will they begin to ship with the wireless charging case? That’s why we actually care about.
agreed... currently the airpods are 170 bucks ... add on the 70$ charging case, you are looking at roughly 250$Airpods (including tax)... that throws their bang for your buck value right out the window.

Are the AirPods going to use straight up Qi? Or is it going to be like the Apple Watch? People are saying series 3 can’t be used with Qi.

its supposed to be Qi compatible.

AW series 3 is Qi compatible. I would guess that some Qi chargers weren't made with such a small device in mind which is why it has been hit or miss with chargers.

I LOVE my AirPods! When going back to the wired headphones they seem awkward and weird. The AirPods "just work" and they work well. I'm very happy with them. Just got the new Apple Watch too and now can run "phone free" for my workout. Very happy with my Apple products right now. In fact for me, Apple anwsered all the questions I had. The only device I struggled with was my iPad Pro. But now that I've accepted it for what it is. I'm even happy with that (a glorified iPad and doodling device haha).

I bought a pair about 10 days ago at a Best Buy in town (Green Bay, WI) as they were listed In Stock at the store. There were a few more pairs in the case.

Unfortunately, I’m going to need to bring them back because 1) they don’t have a good fit for me and 2) they let too much outside noise in (I work in an open office where it can get kind of loud at times and it’s nice to be able to block out the noise in order to “focus” My $15 pair of Sony Wired earbuds do the trick for this but I hate them for walking/exercise).

I really wish they had or hope that they eventually will produce a form factor like the Beats X with the rubber gasket-style earbuds for just that reason. Doesn’t seem like much of a stretch.

So the new AirPods case is compatible. But the older AirPods case is not. That's fine though for me since I find the wireless charging "gimmicky". I have so many charging cables everywhere that until more devices are wireless charging I'm not going to purchase another wired charging device so I can get wireless charging on my phone and Apple Watch.

I think the change over would happen when I could buy a apple pad that charges my iPad, iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch and Laptop. Until that comes out I'll just enjoy all the wires I have at each place I need to charge (Front room, bedroom and office). :)

congrats apple, it only took you 9 months to reach this point (I'm not counting the months it took to even release the product). Just in time for the NEW wireless case to come out.
Yes because theyre so insanely popular people are buying them faster than Apple could make them. Congrats, indeed. Show me any other headphones with that sort of demand, hmm?

I only tried switching from iPhone to Apple Watch but haven't tried on the Mac in the past few days after upgrading to iOS 11

I picked mine up at an AT&T Store about two weeks ago and they had at least 10 pairs in stock. Love them! I thought they would be too big for my ear or not fit right but they are great, took a little getting used to, but now that I know how to angle them for my ear the fit is great.

Also, the wireless charging case would be great, but let’s get real, you don’t have to charge the case that often!

Can you live with me, at least until Trump leaves office, I need your irrational optimism in my life :)
lol. Not to venture into the political weeds but the only way I’ll make it at least to the midterm elections is by clinging to as much rational optimism as possible.

I have no faith the results in the midterms will bring any kind of sanity back...

My Best Buy had stacks and stacks when I bought them yesterday. Around 50 pairs. Didn’t realize they were still rare.

And then this reply became a review:

I actually love that they are very open, not isolated, but that’s because I’ve been finding myself listening with one ear off my overhead earphones a lot lately. I do food photography 12 hours a day and I really hate cooking with such sound isolation. I don’t want to turn around and see water boiling over, or have my wife come up behind me without me realizing as I’m chopping something.

In general, I don’t feel as rude wearing them around my wife (who works with me) as she can actually get my attention if needed.

That said, I could see people hating them! They are maybe the least isolated I’ve ever used. At a loud volume, it’s like a loud speaker filling the room, not headphones. I don’t remember that with the free EarPods. I’d definitely bring my giant Sony earcups on a plane.

Where I was even more pleasantly surprised was that the sound quality is actually “good enough”. I also do audio mixing for indie films, so I’m a headphone snob. I returned 6 pairs from brands like Harmon Kardon before settling on my $300 Sony earcups (which had an optional DAC with Lightning cable years before Apple dropped 3.5mm, yet I preferred the sound bypassing Sony’s DAC). I bought the AirPods because I listen to podcasts and Howard Stern all day as I do my photography, and the over ears are heavy and hot. I was buying AirPods for talk, not music. But music sounds good. Way better than I expected after reviews. It’s right at the sweet spot where it’s convenient and good enough that I won’t be grabbing the big Sony’s to casually listen to music.

Did not expect to like them this much. They really seem like the most fully-realized Apple product in years. They work. They are amazing on phone calls too. Having spent $300 on a pair of wired headphones, these seem like a steal for $160 and the sound fits the price point.

Also, I’m one of the guys that HEAVILY criticized Apple’s removal of the 3.5mm jack. Now I have high end Lightning earcups and AirPods and I still don’t like that decision.

I wanted to like these. I really did. I tried them at my local Apple Store (which had some in stock).

Sound quality was overall poor to average IMO. About on par with the headphones included with your iPhone, so if those don't bother you, maybe you'd be just fine with these. But for me, they are significantly worse than my similarly priced Bose SoundSport wireless headphones.

Comfort was another issue. I couldn't get the AirPods to stay in my ears. Guess I'm one of the small percentage of people who can't wear these. Sad :(

I had a Nexus 4 and that did wireless charging. I thought, Apple are going to do something awesome with QI wireless charging. Years later they have essentially done the same but took forever to do it.

I would love an iPhone SE with wireless charging.

I use Macbook Pro, iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch. Worked ok on iOS10.

Apple is closing in on its aim to achieve supply/demand balance for its AirPods, with the popular earphones now shipping from the online Apple Store in just three to five business days in the United States, Canada, U.K., Australia, and several other countries around the world.

According to Apple's U.S. website, AirPods ordered today will be delivered between October 4 and October 6, while U.K. customers ordering today are being quoted delivery dates between October 3 and October 5. These are the best estimates Apple has offered since the AirPods launched in December 2016.

AirPods have been in extremely short supply since they became available for purchase, with a typical wait time of six weeks from order to delivery. Only in August did stock begin steadily improving, with shipping estimates dropping to four weeks and then two to three weeks. Earlier this month, estimates improved to one to two weeks, before hitting three to five business days today.

During Apple's third quarter earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple had boosted AirPods production capacity and was "working very hard" to get AirPods to customers as quickly as possible.

Occasionally, Apple retail stores have received stock and third-party retailers like Best Buy have been able to offer AirPods with faster shipping on a regular basis, but those stocks have usually run out fast.

Costing $159, Apple's "truly wireless" AirPods have gained popularity due to their long battery life, capacious charge case, infrared sensors that detect when they're being worn, touch-based gestures, and a built-in W1 chip that improves Bluetooth connection. AirPods are also relatively inexpensive compared to rival "truly wireless" earbuds that have launched in recent months.
