It's not strange. Why would they have stock right now if they were going on sale in the new year?

The fact that some stores already have them backs this story up completely.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Where in the article does it say stores have them in stock and sitting on them until next week?

Further, I was commenting on what a specious conclusion that the January timing would seem late assuming Apple would want them released before the holidays -- of course they do! but without knowing what the delay was about then certainly pushing it to January would not be a choice. Just like it surely was not a choice that Apple didn't have them ready from day 1 alongside he release of the iPhone 7.

If Apple were really going to start selling them next week, why wouldn't they offer them for pre-order now, just like the PowerBeats were? And everything else Apple sells in their on-line store?

January makes sense if they don't have sufficient yield to satisfy holiday sales -- and again, that's just as plausible a scenario based on what we know.

The bottom line is that Apple totally botched this, and the removal of the headphone jack, however it eventually turns out.

Will they push it back to next year, probably in early 2017 together with probably one of Apple Special Event (iPads and Macs) and relaunch it?

I will probably never get theses, but in certain situations I think the wireless would be nice. Well, as long as the sound quality was as good as the wired ones.

I am skeptical about them staying in my ears. Especially jogging at night, if they fall out, it could be hard to find them.

Then the feeling is mutual. Some stores already have demo units. It's not in this article however.

They haven't messed it up. They delayed a product that isn't ready. If they released it and there were issues you'd get grumpy.

Apple can't win...

I was never really thinking about getting these. The main reason is the worry that they won't stay in all that great. One thing that would get me to really consider them is if they don't have a f******* led lit up or blinking on the side of them.

I really want to try on these demo AirPods because my ear canals are kind of big and I worry about them staying in, but the thought of doing so really grosses me out.

I think trying them on is hardly relevant since they're the same as the pack-ins.

If only the EarPods would fit my ears in any way...
I get no isolation, no bass and have to crank them up to maximum levels to hear anything in public.
I figure the same would be true for the AirPods, which is a shame since they really look cool.

Hopefully these things launch soon so that those who want them can get them. I'm not one of those people. Apple's design is usually pretty good. Air Pods? Probably one of the most unattractive product I've ever seen from Apple. From any company for that matter. They're butt ugly to me. To each his own though.

Struggling with that scenario--Three inch bright white object falls out of your ear to the ground. Hard to find???

I was excited to purchase these along with my Nike Edition Apple Watch, but were delayed, so I bought a pair of Bose SoundSport Bluetooth headphones instead of these. The Bose are more comfortable (gel/rubber ear inserts) and are sweat and weather/elements resistance, unlike the Apple Airpods and the Bose have volume and track controls. :D

Looks like Apple insider was right again. They ran the story that sources they had at apple were saying "no way it's delayed until January" at the same time the rest of the Apple press was citing January 2017 (without checking?).
Don't bite the hand that feeds...lol

I can't wait for these to be released as they are the only true innovative Apple product for a long while.

I'm happy to hear something about these finally since I'm wanting to retire the lightning connector EarPods.

I will admit I'm going to buy these without trying them out in an Apple Store since I am not willing to stick earphones in my ear canal that have been in 1000s of other people's ears.

I plan to order them once they become available. But I agree with you 100% and in my opinion, Apple should not even allow multiple people to stick them in their ears for sanitary reasons e.g. lice, virus, bacteria, etc. Oh well, at least Apple products are free from arsenic and other materials that could hurt the environment. I'm sure glad Apple isn't coming out with their own toothbrush.
