These ones include a new chip, the H1, enabling Hey Siri and 50% more talk time. They also can be purchased with a wirelessly charging case. I don't know why these aren't considered "true" second generation AirPods.

Because they don’t sound anywhere near as good as my Bloatweisser PH-17XA4 wireless cups.

Sure, the Bloats are over-ear, and okay, they don’t quite meet your ridiculous criteria for “wireless” in that they require a wire to plug into the phone — and yes, they also require an external mains-powered pre-amp which weighs a couple of kilos — but boy do they sound good.

Apple says on the website that they are second generation AirPods. They also said it in the “newsroom” press release.
Where is that? I can't seem to find anything that explicitly says 2nd Gen, only "new".

No dire rush for me. I'll just wait unit the true 2nd Gen ones are releases next year.

Agreed. This second GEN version is subpar at best. I’m not complaining, I’m just stating my observations after waiting two years, this was really an incremental update in terms of the battery life, Hey Siri, etc. I thought at least we would receive at minimum, a water resistance rating and an additional color, so hopefully whenever the true version of the AirPods launches likely 2020, they will be more promising for those who were expecting more.

Went wireless because I am banking on the rumor that Apple will copy Samsung and let me charge from the back of my iPhone. That and its handy and if you decide later you wanted wireless is more expensive to just buy the case. Don't fault your decision, I hear ya, but wireless is a good feature here.
[doublepost=1553110829][/doublepost]SIDE NOTE: I wonder what will happen when I say Hey Siri. As it is, several devices compete to answer and often it seems to be the one that wants me to unlock. My watch is unlocked, so is my phone so iPad, why did you reply?
I just ordered mine with wireless charging case because 2 years ago I was in a mall and they had wireless charging mats everywhere but my iPhone 6s was dying and I had no charging cable or a battery pack with me. I will never forget that experience. 2 years later and now I have a battery pack and a cable with me everywhere I go and my iPhone supports wireless charging just in case I am not willing to take my cable with me.

P.S: Back in 2016 I didn't buy the first generation AirPods. I hope I will have a good experience as a first time AirPods owner.

We can get caught up on the semantics of '2nd generation'/AirPods 2.0 until we're blue in the face. Personally, having picked up my AirPods at launch for £159 with over 2 years use it just doesn't make sense to drop £199 on a new pair that will in all likelihood be superseded by a more substantial upgrade within 12 months (assuming the next version does indeed get pushed back from later this year). Battery life is indeed degraded but I'm going to hold off. To each their own

Battery Anxiety,lol

I was hoping for the second generation AirPods to be at least water resistant, but I guess I'll wait till next year for those to be released. The color variation would be cool but not a deal breaker, the water resistance feature is. Waiting till next year...

Except on those occasions when they don't hand over correctly... or aren't recognized by my watch even though I just got done with a phone call I initiated from the watch, resulting in having to restart both the watch and phone... or the strange audio drop outs that seem to occur at random times, making it hard to pinpoint actions that might be contributing to said drop outs...

Don't get me wrong, I love these things but there are certainly times when I don't.
I agree with you, and that’s where Bluetooth 5.0 will come in handy. It’ll hopefully fix those connectivity issues.

What bluetooth version can we expect? 5.0?
Yes

Highly doubt it'll slip away any further because a lot of consumers already have the current AirPods, let alone the options of having it wireless or wired since both cases will still have the upgraded AirPods regardless. Also, if Apple learned their lesson with the previous AirPods, they'll be more prepared with stock. Just my two cents.

Because it doesn’t matter what Apple does, there will always be some people who just aren’t happy. People were calling for Apple to release new ones and when they do they complain, just like with every other Apple product just lately on this forum
people complain because its an ok upgrade, not something to rave about. plus to get all the features, folks have to pay 40 bucks more this time around. so i can see the legitimacy of the complains for this release. to write these folks as mere complainers is a disservice to apple fans everywhere

I can’t beleive people are buying these when they’re mostly identical to the 1st gen hahaha
My current pair that live in my pocket and see daily use are now two years old. Still fantastic but passing them on to a daughter that is now old enough to keep up with them. Excuse, but its mine and why not get some new features when I was already going to update.

I love my AirPods, but they're far from perfect, especially when you add more than one device to the mix. One on one (iPhone + AirPods) UX is great, but when you add AW, MBP (in my case), UX is going south for sure. Lately I've experienced dropouts, sync delay, pod not charging, etc. I am accounting this to workouts and heightened moisture. I am waiting for the reviews on AirPods 1.5.

Exactly the reason why I sold mine on eBay a while ago and went back to using the stock wired earbuds.

I ran into the same identical issues. It was frustrating beyond belief. Switching was really an effort and took multiple tries.

I didn't buy the first generation AirPods when they came out at the end of 2016 because in my opinion I was happy with my iPhone 6s and the wired EarPods. Now that Apple ditched the jack port and I want to charge my iPhone at the same time, I bought them. I am tired of wires after more than a decade. I think it's time to embrace the wireless future.

Not surprised. Apple needs more AirPods type products. Feature-rich, reasonably priced (if not under-priced), and work as advertised. AirPods define the "it just works" that made many of us love Apple. We need more of this.
Mine “mostly” just work. Sometimes there is an indicator showing they’re connected yet there is sound coming out of the phone and not the pods. Sometimes I take one out to speak to someone and when I put it back in my ear they both stop working, which necessitates putting them back in the case and closing it, then taking them out.

I’ve had mutiple pairs with multiple phones, so this isn’t a one off. Air Pods are nice, don’t get me wrong, but they do have flaws and sometimes those flaws are substantial.
