This upgrade is disappointing after all the hype. Rumors had this 1.5 gen model release end of last year. Obviously apple held off. I’ll keep using my gen 1 AirPods until a true upgrade comes along.

The slip texture coating I think isn’t a prerogative for the AirPods, however the water resistance, noise cancellation and an additional color would have been. At minimum, the water resistance rating would’ve been beneficial, simply because it would provide some more security for the AirPods in different environments and of course inside the gym.
IDK I’ve been using them for almost a yr and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost dropped an AirPod, the case not so much but a little texturing on the buds would have been nice.

3 years for such a small update apple has lost the plot
What's to update?
Wireless charging, duh.
Hey Siri, duh.
Longer battery life, only so much tech advancement to cram in such a small space, duh.
What else did you want?

With the battery issues lots have reported, is there any sense in buying a wireless charging case for the current gen?

Just ordered mine here in Japan. Luckily, Apple listed them on the site late last night, so most Japanese had no clue they were out If they would have known, they’d be gone in a heartbeat. It’s early morning here, I bet in a few hours the date will go up and by this afternoon they may be gone.

I got a delivery date of March 28th

I been wanting AirPods forever and was waiting. Sad, no black or better sound. But they still should be nice

AirPods power user, posting to balance the haters. Am on teleconferencing 2-7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Wires are a huge problem, other Bluetooth headphones suck a host of ways. AirPods are glorious, practically perfect save for battery life, case charging, and occasional long sync times. 50% longer battery is good improvement, given tiny space to use and slow advances to battery tech. Wireless charging ends having to keep switching cables (app developer, have 7 devices to charge). Hopefully sync software has improved. Worth the <$0.30/day. Only reason to delay is current AirPods still work so well.

I have the first generation AirPods and I see no compelling reason to upgrade.

For me, getting more than the 45 minutes of use per charge I get with my current AirPods is a plus.

We can get caught up on the semantics of '2nd generation'/AirPods 2.0 until we're blue in the face. Personally, having picked up my AirPods at launch for £159 with over 2 years use it just doesn't make sense to drop £199 on a new pair that will in all likelihood be superseded by a more substantial upgrade within 12 months (assuming the next version does indeed get pushed back from later this year). Battery life is indeed degraded but I'm going to hold off. To each their own

It's cute you guys think there will be new ones in 12 months. It only took almost three years to get the 2nd gen released. You should probably wait for AirPods 6.0 to be released in 2030. Those things will be bomb!

I’m sticking with my generation 1 AirPods until they come up with a better option to locate a misplaced case that still has power. My wife has cats and if I leave the case out they’ll bat it all around the house thinking it’s a toy. It’s taken me days to find the case before. You’d think they could come up with something like having your phone or iPad emit a louder and louder ping the closer you get to a case that still has power that you’ve misplaced when you invoke find my AirPods. That would entice me to upgrade right then and there.

Too many sources indicate a further iteration is in the works. Remember these were delayed from last year. iPad 4 followed iPad 3 a mere 8 months later so there is a precedent. I guess we'll see!

Apple's history of product delays furthers my point, not yours though. How's your Airmat or whatever it's called working? They announced that thing so long ago it's embarrassing!

25th shipping for me. I love mine and use them daily, wireless case and updated specs is all I need.

Where does the H1 stand for? H-ealth maybe? New updates coming soon? Why didn’t they follow the W1 chipset naming

Ordered mine earlier today and it was est. 3/27-3/29. Lost mine late last year and I just figured I'd wait. Was hoping for more of a feature bump but hey I was gonna replace it anyway might as well get the best version of it.
This is me exactly. Skipped wireless tho. Not worth the premium $40 price hike IMO since lightning is ubiquitous.

$40 more dollars for features I would never use? No thanks. I mean I like wireless charging and all but meh. I don't use Siri. Talk time already is more than adequate. That's a 25% price increase for pretty much no reason.

A few months ago I bought a brand new pair for $150 (eBay). Love them of course. Would buy last gen if something happened to these.

Tell that to people who jumped on the iPad 3 and six months later...

I really don't care about the color since I will have them in my ear and I won't be looking at the charging case all the time. I just do hope they have bluetooth 5.0, that's all that matters to me.

Not surprised. Apple needs more AirPods type products. Feature-rich, reasonably priced (if not under-priced), and work as advertised. AirPods define the "it just works" that made many of us love Apple. We need more of this.
They are definitely not under-priced.. could be 99-129€/$ too.
