I was hoping for more sweat/water resistance.

How many have ruined them with sweat? Am I off-base being concerned about that happening?
I have only had mine since December and only wear them to the gym, no issues so far. That being said, I am waiting for the next generation.

I placed an order for these yesterday morning and cancelled after thing about it.

I dunno, seems like there's more than a few in this forum alone, which makes me think that if extrapolated, would push it past "fraction minority".

And how do you know you and asdavis10 aren't the fractional minority? ;)

My left one came up with an exclamation mark the other day. It also runs out of battery time before the right one does. I'd buy the case only, but think I'm looking at having to replace them soon because of that.

Does Apple replace them under warranty? How strenuous does the proof have to be to get a warranty replacement? Right now the left doesn't exclamation point, but I've had so many issues. It's odd to have one die...

The best way to clean them is with "Blue Tac" soft glue stick. First get a regular wooden toothpick and remove as much visible wax as possible. Next get a small ball of Blue Tac and push that into the grill and pull swiftly and repeat until the grill holes look free of wax. Next get a Q-Tip, dab it in rubbing alcohol and clean the grill areas with that. Alcohol dissolves and softens the ear wax a bit more. Then repeat the Blue Tac method of pulling the remaining wax out of the grills to finish it off.

This is the best way I found to keep them clean. Depending on how dirty they are initially, there will be a significant increase in sound volume and quality afterwards.

I've never taken the time to look at my AirPods and consider cleaning. Just did and oh dear god, my ears are disgusting. I am horrified, lol. Just ordered some blue tac. Thanks for the tip.

I can’t beleive people are buying these when they’re mostly identical to the 1st gen hahaha

Some of us held off on the 1st gen and waited for 2nd. I know me personally I have purchased 3 pairs of these as gifts for others, but none for myself. I only really listen to music in the airplane (which my Bose headset is better for) and at the gym (which I prefer an earbud with a cup so it stays a bit better). I will admit though, I borrowed my gf's airpods last week for a trip and I was amazed at how well it amplified ONLY my voice and ignored everything else when speaking to her from a busy loud bar. Needless to say, I'm now going to FINALLY jump on the bandwagon and buy some.

Yeah DAC is an abbreviation of digital to analog converter. The audio via Bluetooth is already digital so no need.

They don’t have any dac.... why would there be one in headphones .....

The DAC in Bluetooth headphones takes the digital audio data supplied by the Bluetooth radio receiver and converts it to analog audio. That audio signal is then amplified and fed to basically a small speaker, which produces the sound waves you hear.

Yeah DAC is an abbreviation of digital to analog converter. The audio via Bluetooth is already digital so no need.

Let's see:
music files stored on servers (e.g. itunes, spotify): DIGITAL
transmit music files from servers in data centers to phone: DIGITAL
music files stored on phone: DIGITAL
transmit music from phone to airpods via bluetooth: DIGITAL
[magic happens inside airpods]
ANALOG signal sent to transducers inside airpods to vibrate the diaphragms to make sound so your ears can hear the music

What do you think the magic is? A digital to analog convertor, AKA DAC.

Updating this because several others have already answered this. I’m just providing this text from the webpage that was linked.

“A DAC takes a digital signal from its input and converts it into an analog signal on its output.”

So, unless the stream from a phone to wireless headphones is analog (it’s not), there’s a DAC in the Airpods doing the conversion.

I think the OP is confused because, if you’re using wireless, you definitely don’t need a separate DAC, but that’s ONLY because every wireless headphone already has a DAC.

Europe an afterthought? Eh? Apple tech is everywhere I look here in the UK & there's a strong physical retail presence too.

Honestly? Apple products are unaffordable to most Brits and except for a handful of Apple Stores, there's no sign of Apple anywhere.

I agree but I use mine every single day and go to sleep listening to them and I’ve had them over 2 years - I’ve found the ear wax builds up ( yuck) on them and ve attempted to clean them with isopropyl a few times but I reckon this has degraded them as they have lost a lot of volume:

I may get a new pair but dissapointed they don’t have more tap or even slide touch controls for eg volume
You can clean using tape and also blow and suck the grates. That fixed this issue for me.

In the UK, there are more than a handful of Apple stores....38 in total.
I see almost that one in every three phones in someones hand is an iPhone. My office has dozens of people wearing Apple watches. I also see more and more people wearing AirPods. The UK is a very lucrative market for Apple. Why do you think they are amongst the first batch of countries to receive new apple products.

For those insisting there is no DAC: Without processing through a DAC, the sound would sound something like this, only more continuous. Definitely NOT 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

Back in the stone ages, 1980's, I had a CD that played as an audio CD in a player. It was a program installation CD. I certainly hope that kind of thing doesn't happen now. It can blow speakers, and warp tweeters.

I was hoping for more with this update.

The battery life on my current AirPods is low. Was looking forward to replacing.

Will keep them longer

Massively underwhelming after waiting almost 2 years. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that Apple simply cannot innovate anymore. Convince me I'm wrong.
Sure, be glad to. But first convince me you understand what innovation is. You’re batting zero right now with that hot take above.

Not surprised. Apple needs more AirPods type products. Feature-rich, reasonably priced (if not under-priced), and work as advertised. AirPods define the "it just works" that made many of us love Apple. We need more of this.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

AirPods might be the most overpriced product that Apple sells. 200 dollars (up from 160) for 30 dollars of sound quality.

I have had a day-1 first-gen Airpods that I've used constantly -- like nearly every day -- in both work meetings, exercise, everything. I bought two pairs mostly because I thought the mrs or kids might want a pair, AND I was also concerned about losing one (and waiting for a replacement) as they really were and are invaluable to me.

Kids ended up snapping up my other pair. This time around I'm only buying one pair. I have had only zero issues. I gave it a thorough cleaning maybe once. In full disclosure I do tend to be pretty good about keeping my ears clean.

I realize this is just one subjective story, but I did see videos of these things going through washing machines or in the rain. They're not exactly "waterproof" but NORMAL use in rain or sweat should be just fine.

You couldn't be more wrong. Literally 90% of laptops I see when I am out & about are Macs, practically all tablets are iPads & smart phones are a 50/50 split with Android. Apple products are also very popular with students here in the UK.

Hey, let's just raise the price and see how far it will go.
Or (apparently) keep it at the same $159 as last year, when they reportedly sold 35 million.

Then add a much-desired optional accessory like a wireless charging case for $79—only $10 more than the wired version. Just for good measure, offer a $199 bundle in which the wireless charging case is available for a $40 upcharge—half the cost of buying it as a standalone item.

Should be good for $7-10 billion in annual revenue, easy.

I see iPhones all the time. Even teenagers and young kids have them. Tablets I agree are about 50/50 however phones I’d say are about 90% iPhone where I live in Essex. In London on my commute it’s about 70% iPhone and 30 % android (central London). In east London it’s about 60% android and 40 % iPhone.

This is not true at all.
[doublepost=1553252739][/doublepost]I’ve ordered a new pair to replace my 2 year old first gen pair.

You ordered wireless case?

Think if people here are buying next gen iPhone with wireless power share it makes sense
