Oh like that has been possible for years? Please stop being arrogant. Give me a break.
People like to complain for no reason. Trust me, in 6 months he will be able to do that as soon as iPhone launches at the end of September. In September he will still complain because that’s how people are, always unhappy no matter what is already available on the market.

I have the first generation AirPods and I see no compelling reason to upgrade.
I agree but I use mine every single day and go to sleep listening to them and I’ve had them over 2 years - I’ve found the ear wax builds up ( yuck) on them and ve attempted to clean them with isopropyl a few times but I reckon this has degraded them as they have lost a lot of volume:

I may get a new pair but dissapointed they don’t have more tap or even slide touch controls for eg volume

Doubtfully expected. You can always seem to gauge how much time passes based on how 'often' Apple slips.

They've been doing that allot lately.

Try this. https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/clean-airpods

I use a cotton swab to clean my EarPods and a toothpick to gently push the earwax from the corners of the headphones outwards. Then I clean them with wet wipes and they look like they are brand new.

Except on those occasions when they don't hand over correctly... or aren't recognized by my watch even though I just got done with a phone call I initiated from the watch, resulting in having to restart both the watch and phone... or the strange audio drop outs that seem to occur at random times, making it hard to pinpoint actions that might be contributing to said drop outs...

Don't get me wrong, I love these things but there are certainly times when I don't.

I thought it was just me that this happens too.

The best way to clean them is with "Blue Tac" soft glue stick. First get a regular wooden toothpick and remove as much visible wax as possible. Next get a small ball of Blue Tac and push that into the grill and pull swiftly and repeat until the grill holes look free of wax. Next get a Q-Tip, dab it in rubbing alcohol and clean the grill areas with that. Alcohol dissolves and softens the ear wax a bit more. Then repeat the Blue Tac method of pulling the remaining wax out of the grills to finish it off.

This is the best way I found to keep them clean. Depending on how dirty they are initially, there will be a significant increase in sound volume and quality afterwards.

Still holding firm for launch in the UK and much of Europe

another indication that Apple is in the process of abandoning the European market. With Google's and Microsoft's dominance here, Europe has become an afterthought for Apple. Of course Google and Microsoft wouldn't be so dominant if Apple had actually invested in marketing here over the years and offered their products in a timely manner and at the same prices as in the US. But that ship has sailed.

I'm sure the Airpods 2 will arrive at some time in the future, just like the HomePod (not available in 90% of Europe) and most of their services - but does anyone really care anymore?

Europe an afterthought? Eh? Apple tech is everywhere I look here in the UK & there's a strong physical retail presence too.

These ones include a new chip, the H1, enabling Hey Siri and 50% more talk time. They also can be purchased with a wirelessly charging case. I don't know why you don't consider these "true" second generation AirPods.

EDIT: Apple's newsroom release describes them as second generation:
I’m disappointed that you made a comment with out a gif.

Massively underwhelming after waiting almost 2 years. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that Apple simply cannot innovate anymore. Convince me I'm wrong.

Just hours after Apple unveiled new second-generation AirPods with "Hey Siri" support and a new Wireless Charging Case, they've started selling out.

At launch, Apple listed a U.S. delivery date of March 27 to March 29 for the new $199 AirPods paired with the Wireless Charging Case, but now, those delivery estimates have slipped to April 2 to April 5.

The $159 second-generation AirPods with a standard Charging Case continue to be available for March 27 to March 29 delivery, as does the standalone $79 Wireless Charging Case Apple introduced for current AirPods owners.

Those who want to pick up the new AirPods with Wireless Charging Case should do so soon, as historically, Apple has had trouble keeping its AirPods in stock due to high demand.

We may soon see these delivery estimates slip even further into April.

Apple's new second-generation AirPods do not bring exciting new features that were rumored like a new black color and health updates, but they're a solid upgrade over the previous version.

There's a new H1 wireless chip inside that powers hands-free "Hey Siri" functionality so you don't need to tap to access the voice assistant.

Your AirPods are able to switch between devices two times faster when playing music, and there's an extra hour of talk time, bringing total talk time to three hours.

The new Wireless Charging Case allows the AirPods to charge using Qi-based wireless charging accessories, and it perhaps heralds the upcoming launch of the AirPower.

Apple is designing its own wireless charging mat meant to charge AirPods, the iPhone, and the Apple Watch all at once, but it's not yet entirely clear when it will launch given the many delays since its 2017 introduction.

In the meantime, with no AirPower, AirPods can charge on any Qi-based accessory that you might already have for your iPhone.

Apple will likely have some stock of the new AirPods models in its retail stores next week for those who were unable to order and receive a March delivery date. If you order online, though, you can get your AirPods case engraved, a feature new to the second-generation model.

We expect AirPods to be in stores right around March 25. The new AirPods require iOS 12.2, watchOS 5.2, and macOS Mojave 10.14.4, all of which are in beta testing right now. Those releases are expected on March 25, so AirPods could be in stores soon afterwards.

We're giving away a pair of AirPods to one lucky MacRumors reader, and you can enter to win in our AirPods roundup.

your wrong.

the headphone jack would have a DAC , wirelessly no DAC is required.

here you go

https://www.androidcentral.com/does-my-phone-have-dac-explaining-dacs-and-amps-smartphones-today
Nope. No idea how you got the idea “wirelessly no DAC is required”.

A DAC is definitely required. As I mentioned in my post, it’s necessary to convert the digital audio data into an analog signal, which is then amplified and sent to the headphone drivers. There’s no way around the necessary step of reconstructing the audio signal from the digital data. That’s exactly the function of a DAC.

I thought it was just me that this happens too.
I love my AirPods but for me device switching has been the biggest area for improvement. I’ve many times gotten to the end of the driveway before a run only to discover my AirPods will not pair to my watch. I’ve gotten to where I put my iPhone in airplane mode and confirm AirPods pair to my Apple Watch before walking out the door. Switching between my personal iPhone, work iPhone and ipad can get very squirrelly particularly if I use only 1 AirPod for a call and then try to switch devices.

If this improves, one of the only headaches for this device will be resolved. That and my 2 year old batteries are quickly deteriorating.

I ordered as soon as I saw the announcement.

I get exactly what you mean, but I get exactly what the other commenter means. You may be in a very fraction minority. I had mine since day one they were launched and so far zero issues. For me, they just work!"
I dunno, seems like there's more than a few in this forum alone, which makes me think that if extrapolated, would push it past "fraction minority".

And how do you know you and asdavis10 aren't the fractional minority? ;)
