So what has been holding up AirTags, or are they going to go the way of AirPower?
I don’t think that it going the way of airpower is any type of possibility. Airpower didn’t work because it was actually having technical difficulties. These are definitely not having technical difficulties. In fact, apple leaked them themselves. A lot of people forget that back in April, an Apple support video was uploaded with mention of airtags in it, then immediately taken down not even an hour later.
It probably all has to do with them trying to find the perfect time to release it.
They probably wanted to show it off in an event, but it wasn’t ready for the iPhone 11 event last year.
They didn’t have an event in March of this year, and even then, a tracking device being introduced in the middle of a nationwide lockdown would have been absolutely laughable timing.
So my guess is this fall. If it’s not coming this fall, then I don’t think it’s coming at all.

Wait! The news doesn't match with Mr. Prosser does it?

They have been wrong plenty of times especially with the timing in the past.
Pros says Sept 7th

According to Macrumors:

Mac Otakara's information contradicts information shared by leaker Jon Prosser, who has suggested Apple plans to unveil the Apple Watch and new iPads via press release in September and then hold an event in October for the iPhones. Apple has never decoupled iPhone and Apple Watch launches, so there has been some skepticism about this prediction.

Jon stated that the watch is going to come out via Press Release.
so they're just going to release an Apple watch without having an actual event???

Originally, they were predicted for 2021, which I still suspect that might be the case in the first quarter. If you look at the product release this year, the Apple Watch, the iPhone, MacBook, those will probably be staggered of the two events. I’d expect the iPad refresh, Airtags, HomePod revamp, SE Plus, and Studio headphones all in 2021.
Except for the fact that the iPads were literally just filed in the database, meaning that their release is soon. Apples not gonna file them in late August, just to release them in March 2021. That would be absolutely ridiculous.
My guess is that in September, will get the iPad, iPad Air, and new Apple watches. Then in October, we’ll get the iPhones, AirPods studio, ARM Mac and airtags. We could also possibly see an updated Apple TV and a HomePod mini, perfect for holiday season.
Then in the spring of next year, will get the iPhone SE plus, and the iPad Pro 2021 update with Mini LED and the A14X chip

The apparent reason behind the iPhone “delay” is supply chain issues. The watch doesn’t necessarily have these same issues. It’s 2020 therefore nothing is normal and I wouldn’t hold it against them with having two separate launches. Especially since they can’t/won’t have their typical large iPhone events. There really isn’t a motivation this year to keep them bundled together.

Yep I know about the technical challenges of the AirPower... and even the airtag support video.. but dont forget AirPower was pictured with other Apple products as well (leaked). Just not sure why apple needs the perfect event to release something as simple as the AirTag. holding up release is just holding back potential profits and letting the competition catch up. Just strikes me as strange.

Filed, yes. Soon doesn’t really mean anything. The Entry level iPads had a refresh now for two years now in Q1. If you’re talking about the Pro line, that would have a staggered release, But I don’t suspect will see the ‘Pro’ launch anytime before November.

Is “air” the new “i”? Will all Apple products now have “air” in the name? AirPower! AirPhone? AirMovie? AirMac? AirTunes? Crazy times. Oh well. At least it makes it easier to search for tips and tricks than for “Pages” and “Numbers”...

Yes. Apple has introduced several products within the last year, that would regularly have an event, but this time they didn’t.
First, it was the AirPods Pro, which were introduced via site refresh. It’s bizarre, because one of their biggest products, the AirPods, got a whole new SKU, and all it got was a website refresh.
Then, just two weeks later, they introduced the 16 inch MacBook Pro. An entire new screen size, a new keyboard, new speaker system, new microphones, etc., etc., etc., and all it got was a website refresh. In any other year, that would’ve been at some sort of event.
Then in March, we got the 2020 iPad Pro with magic keyboard. There was an event that was scheduled, that had to be canceled, and I bet you that Apple was upset about that. They were probably very excited about demoing all of the new trackpad and keyboard features coming to the iPad on stage, but they never got a chance to do that.
Then the iPhone SE was introduced by site refresh.
So yes, it’s completely likely that the Apple Watch series 6, which in all honesty sounds like a very minor update, will just be introduced via site refresh.

Obviously no one knows. But maybe from a financial standpoint it may make sense to release the S6 Watch and possible other products in Sept.
Since Apple’s quarter and fiscal year ends 09/30, they would show a massive YOY decline due to no new iPhone shares. At least some Sept. products could lessen the blow. And boost Revenue somewhat so there isn’t so much of a contrast.

Ha, Ha, Ha, that’s funny that you say that all the entry iPads were introduced in Q1. The latest generation was introduced in September 2019. That is not Q1

Late October is a real bummer. iPhone SE battery and performance are getting worse by the day and I was hoping for a replacement soon.

I'm NOT so sure about that !

AAPL MUST execute their Quarterly Earnings Release NO LATER THAN the End of Oct !

And, naturally, as ALWAYS, they NEED to know the 1st weekend Sales Numbers for their newest iPhones BEFORE that !

Just looking at the calendar for Oct, the iPhone 12 family will very-likely be Released on Friday, Oct 23rd !

That very-likely means "the Announcement" will be made the week of Oct 12th !

NOT Rocket Science !

Just go back two years and look at the timing of the XR relative to their Earnings Call !
