I had the sony version with the 30 pin dock, just bought a IDL45 last week.

IDL45:
+Much better sound quality than the sony lines (if thats important to you)
+Better docking mechanism in how it pivots, doesn't place stress on any component, and allows for pretty much anything with a lightning connector
+Timesync and the connected app features are nice
+Alarms fade in gracefully rather than blasting immediately at full volume

-Doesn't support any device with a case
-It seems that hitting snooze/off/whatever while docked causes the screen to come on which is annoying at 5am.

I would consider the IPL10 if you only needed it for a phone and didn't require dual alarms.

Absolutely! My requirements for a dock are very miminal though. I basically just need it to charge my phone without having to remove my case and I need it to have a clock - that's basically it. The other stuff (speakers, etc.) isn't that important to me but I do understand that people have different needs. It seems like this lightning connector is proving to be problematic to accessory makers because the selection of accessories is very limited.

My needs were like yours. I actually just bought the ihome ic-16. It's 30 bucks on Amazon. It just has a USB port to plug your phone in to charge. No dock. Funny thing is it's made for android! But it does what I want - alarm clock and charges the phone...

Upon further inspection I don't think the ILD45 will work with any cases. The pivoting Lightning dock is in the middle of a raised, rounded hump. So any case with any protection on the bottom at all will not dock properly.
It's still a nice dock/speaker set, though.
Another nice feature is the built-in USB port on the back. Can be used to charge, or play from, any other device. I use it to charge my iPad 2 at the same time as my iPhone 5

I just bought the iDL45 and the rounded hump was preventing my iPad Mini from charging when in a case so I just peeled off the hump. It's just a piece of rubber that's stuck on with some double sided tape. Works great now!

Went to Best Buy, Apple, Wal-Mart and Costco.

Best Buy had a few docks, but all of them were without a clock (they had the bulky iHome on display, but none in stock).

Apple has the Phillips one, but it was also too big.

Wal-Mart and Costco had nothing.

I ordered the Gear4 dock from Amazon so hopefully that ships soon. So tired of using an adapter everyday to plug my iPhone 5 into a clock dock.

I'm interested in one that works with cases too. Went into Best Buy and they didn't have any that worked with my Speck Candyshell Grip on. Kind of bummed. Been wanting one for a long time.

Hmmmmm. Does it look ok? Could it easily be put back on if you wanted to?

Best buy should be selling the cheaper iPhone 5 Sony alarm clock that's where I got mine.

Charging Dock NOT made for lightening connector

All I want is a similar charging dock that Kensington made for the 30 pin connector. I used it on my 3GS and on my 4GS. I'll need another solution to work with the 5S when it's released. I use the Nightstand Central app instead of the app Kensington provides. Yes, doesn't have the speaker etc. that the ones you're suggesting have, but functionally - keeping the iPhone close to the bed and charging with changing background images (user configured) and time and weather info, it's what I want.

When they ship.

And no release is even announced in the UK

It's in stock in the UK as well as in the US. And they even have the proper picture now, looks like it's at least compatible with any case that can accommodate the 30-pin to Lightning adapter cable (i.e. Belkin Grip Candy Sheer and all the open-bottom cases. If your case has about 2mm clearance with the plug from the USB cable, it should work fine):

Yeah, so that's very obviously not going to work with my case. Or indeed I'd suggest the vast majority of cases. The plastic bottom needs to be the same size as that present on a lightning cable. Not bigger. If it's bigger it's a waste of time.

First of all, most cases are designed with the Lightning to 30-pin adapter cable in mind, which has a slightly wider plug:

But I went ahead and measured it, just for you:
The smaller plug from the USB Lightning cable is 8mm wide, while the blade is 6.5mm wide.
If you now take the known width of the blade and compare it to these measurements:

The plug turns out to be 8mm wide, so it has the same dimensions as the one on the USB cable. From that I deduct that it'll fit any case, unless you have some rugged case that's remarkably thick on the bottom.

The way I know Sony, they were so smart to use the exact same dock assembly on the smaller alarm clock as well. At least someone at Sony had the brilliant thought that people put cases on phones that scratch easily, and that you don't want to remove your case to dock it, that's worth a lot already.

Try it out, if it doesn't work with your case, you can always return it without restocking fees. Just let us know the result.

So I stopped at my local Best Buy on my way to work today and tried a few of these docks out. Not one of them is "case-friendly" and I use what is considered to be a thin case (Switcheasy Tones).

I'm dumbfounded that I can't find a dock with a clock that doesn't require me to remove my case in order to charge my phone - it's ridiculous.

Do you have an iphone 5 as well? Will the iDL45 charge it with a case on it and, if so, what case do you have?

The bits of plastic on the side will block it - the hole on the bottom of the case doesn't need to be 8mm wide (which it is) it needs to be more like 40mm to allow that design to work.
