Hmmmmm. Does it look ok? Could it easily be put back on if you wanted to?

Looks ok to me. Could probably put it back with double sided tape.

So I stopped at my local Best Buy on my way to work today and tried a few of these docks out. Not one of them is "case-friendly" and I use what is considered to be a thin case (Switcheasy Tones).

I'm dumbfounded that I can't find a dock with a clock that doesn't require me to remove my case in order to charge my phone - it's ridiculous.

----------

Do you have an iphone 5 as well? Will the iDL45 charge it with a case on it and, if so, what case do you have?

I am using a Ringke Slim iPhone 5 case. The case is very slim and has no protection on the bottom so it docks and charges fine but when I tried the iPhone 5 with a Speck Candyshell case, it would not charge. So I would assume it would not work with the majority of cases, even with the rubber bump removed, unless there is very little to no protection on the bottom of the case.

It's a regular plug sticking into the air, with a bar behind it to support the phone.

It certainly isn't on any of the pictures.

You can see the side of the roatating section - it's all one piece. It's just thinner to the sides, but just as long and in one piece with the bottom of the port connector.

When I look at these I'm thinking 80 $ for a clock radio? I must be getting cheap in my old age.

It's not really just a clock radio. It's a charger for an iPhone/iPad with decent speakers and an alarm clock.

Ordered the sony device above, wanted ihome but seems absurd it won't work with a case. How do these people make millions as CEOs when they do stupid stuff like that???!!

Will report how the sony works when it gets here.

Got the sony today. My iphone with the thin silicone case fits fine. I have attached pictures with some close-up shots. The hard plastic support that is under the lightning connector is 4 cm in width and matches the speaker cutouts.

I bought this primarily because my old alarm clock had the "old" daylight savings time programmed (thanks, over intrusive do nothing gov't!) and of course didn't have a lightning connector, so I wasn't looking for sound dock speaker quality.

The sound on it is typical for small speakers, it's clear and suitable for waking up, but not any significant volume or bass enough for anything beyond very casual listening.

The LED is very nice in that it's a light greenish color, not the obnoxiously bright red or blue many have. It has 4 levels of dim and on the lower levels is great for a dark bedroom

Has 2 alarms, both of which can be programmed for different sources (ipod) and volume levels.

Any other questions, I'll be happy to answer. Hopefully these pictures may help others.

I have the new Sony Lightning alarm clock. It works with some cases and not with others, specifically for me I discovered today that it does NOT work with my favored Belkin Candy Grip cases. Of course, those are very easy to put on/remove so it's not a huge deal. But kinda, yeah. You'd think they could somehow coordinate with the case companies?!?! Or at least design it to be compatible with most cases...

I just bought the iDL45 and the rounded hump was preventing my iPad Mini from charging when in a case so I just peeled off the hump. It's just a piece of rubber that's stuck on with some double sided tape. Works great now!

I just bought this alarm and my Speck Candyshell also didn't work. I wonder if peeling off the bumper would help also for my case not working.

Picked up the Sony above (ICFCS15IPBLKN) from my local FutureShop (I'm in Canada).

It's pretty big for a desktop alarm clock, but it's solid and well built. One of the reasons I chose this one is because it's heavy and I could use one hand to take my iphone off the charger. Oddly enough my phone still sticks a bit and it's not that easy to take off. That lightning connector sure sticks.

IDL45 vs 95

Does anyone know what the difference is between the iHome IDL45 and the IDL95 (other than appearance)? I called iHome and even they dont know! Thanks

Well, after 2 months my iHome iDL45 is not working.
I used the iHome Set app on my phone and saw that there was a firmware update so I clicked the button to do it. It took a while and got to 97.51% and just froze up. I waited a good 30 minutes and nothing happened so I undocked my phone and unplugged the iHome for a while. Now the screen just says "RECOVER MODE". I contacted iHome and they said I need to send it in for warranty repair.

NO WAY!
I got my iHome 2 days ago. Then, yesterday, I was like, what the heck, let's see what this iHome set app is all about. Being me, I'm the kind of guy that likes to have everything up to date. So, I hit "search for update," then I click "update," then it freezes right at 97.51%. Then I did exactly what you did and now I get RECOVER MODE. I contacted the iHome company but haven't heard back yet. I thought maybe it was like trying to do something in that mode, like, you know, fixing itself or something, so I left it like that and when to bed. But, nothing changed. Did it cost you anything to have it shipped in and fixed?

You can probably return it to the store if you have only had it 2 days. I had mine for just over 2 months so I could no longer return it.

Something is definitely wrong with their update process.

So I got an email from ihomeaudio, and it's all like, "it can't have any physical defects or damage and you have to have proof of purchase and blah blah blah. Can't I just give them the serial number? I have all the original packaging and everything. However, I can't fit it into the original packaging because of the backrest. The only problem is that I never got a receipt. Unless it's online since I bought it online? I bought it a week ago and didn't receive it until June 19, the day after yours stopped working.

Oh, and I'm guessing that after I get it fixed, I shouldn't update it, right?

I see that just today they have updated the iHome Set app:

"-Add alert message to poke user how to recover the iHome device in the recover mode.
- Now iHome Set will let user have firmware update if the iHome device is in the recover mode"

iHome iDL95

I have an IP90 that I have had to modify to work with my iPhone 5. I have had it for several years and it has excellent sound and worked very well with my iPhone 4. When I got an iPhone 5 I had to get the small converter from Apple that has a female 30 pin socket to a male lightening connector. I had to build a support behind the iPhone so that it would not stress the connector.

I got an IDL95 for my wife. The unit works perfectly as designed. I was thrilled (at first) that iHome had finally produced a radio that worked with the iPhone 5.

However

1. Why do designers of iPhone connecter products never imagine that users do not have protective cases that have some thickness in the connector area that (in the case of the IDL95) prevent making contact with the connector???
2. So you believe that NO ONE uses AM anymore??!!?? Not to be believed.

Two things that have to be learned and learned well...

Everyone that values their iPhone has a case and they do not want to remove it each time they go to bed... I really don't want to have to modify the case because the designer of the iHome DL95 did not consider that EVERYONE has a protective case!!!

Just because I am "modern" enough that I have an iPhone 5 does not mean that I do not listen to AM radio. Most of the popular news stations and talk radio stations are still on AM.

If anyone in this forum knows why it is smart to make an FM only radio or to make a connector that ignores the fact that most people have iPhone cases, I would surely like to hear the answer.

Yep. I saw that yesterday and updated it and now my iHome works. Don't you wish that they had come out with that update before u sent it in? Or had you not sent it in yet?
