Hmmmmm. Does it look ok? Could it easily be put back on if you wanted to?
Looks ok to me. Could probably put it back with double sided tape.

So I stopped at my local Best Buy on my way to work today and tried a few of these docks out. Not one of them is "case-friendly" and I use what is considered to be a thin case (Switcheasy Tones).
I'm dumbfounded that I can't find a dock with a clock that doesn't require me to remove my case in order to charge my phone - it's ridiculous.

Do you have an iphone 5 as well? Will the iDL45 charge it with a case on it and, if so, what case do you have?
It's a regular plug sticking into the air, with a bar behind it to support the phone.
It certainly isn't on any of the pictures.
You can see the side of the roatating section - it's all one piece. It's just thinner to the sides, but just as long and in one piece with the bottom of the port connector.

It's not really just a clock radio. It's a charger for an iPhone/iPad with decent speakers and an alarm clock. When I look at these I'm thinking 80 $ for a clock radio? I must be getting cheap in my old age.
Will report how the sony works when it gets here.
I just bought the iDL45 and the rounded hump was preventing my iPad Mini from charging when in a case so I just peeled off the hump. It's just a piece of rubber that's stuck on with some double sided tape. Works great now!
Well, after 2 months my iHome iDL45 is not working.
I used the iHome Set app on my phone and saw that there was a firmware update so I clicked the button to do it. It took a while and got to 97.51% and just froze up. I waited a good 30 minutes and nothing happened so I undocked my phone and unplugged the iHome for a while. Now the screen just says "RECOVER MODE". I contacted iHome and they said I need to send it in for warranty repair.
NO WAY!
I got my iHome 2 days ago. Then, yesterday, I was like, what the heck, let's see what this iHome set app is all about. Being me, I'm the kind of guy that likes to have everything up to date. So, I hit "search for update," then I click "update," then it freezes right at 97.51%. Then I did exactly what you did and now I get RECOVER MODE. I contacted the iHome company but haven't heard back yet. I thought maybe it was like trying to do something in that mode, like, you know, fixing itself or something, so I left it like that and when to bed. But, nothing changed. Did it cost you anything to have it shipped in and fixed?
You can probably return it to the store if you have only had it 2 days. I had mine for just over 2 months so I could no longer return it.
Something is definitely wrong with their update process.
Oh, and I'm guessing that after I get it fixed, I shouldn't update it, right?

I see that just today they have updated the iHome Set app:
"-Add alert message to poke user how to recover the iHome device in the recover mode.
- Now iHome Set will let user have firmware update if the iHome device is in the recover mode"
