iDL45 vs. iDL95

Does anyone know what the difference is between the iHome IDL45 and the IDL95 (other than appearance)? I called iHome and even they dont know! Thanks

As far as I can tell, by copying and pasting details side by side, is that the iDL95 has a Universal 10-240V AC adaptor, aux-in jack and "sure alarm" battery backup.

And one of them is on sale now at Costco for $79. I'm assuming it's the 45 model, but I forgot to check model number. I'm asking for it for Christmas. :D

What's the verdict on a dock compatible with Speck CandyShell?

Looking for a dock or clock radio compatible with iPhone 5 with a Speck CandyShell case.

The IDL45 has backlit buttons where the actual symbols on the buttons are backilit. Great for using in the dark.
I don't know for sure about the IDL95 but it looks an awful lot like the ID95 which did not have backlit symbols. Only the buttons themselves were backlit, each with a simple identical dot so if you hadn't memorized which button was where -- you couldn't operate it easily in the dark.

My Costco has the IDL45 and the IPL10.
The IPL10 doesn't have any backlight on the buttons and only one alarm.

If you'd use a CandyShell Flip instead, all of them work.

It doesn't look like there is enough room behind the lightning adapter on the Sony for the flip cases.

I'm having this same problem getting a case that will fit a Lightning connector, too. I have tried the Speck Candy Shell and the Spigen Neo Hybrid. I couldn't get either clock radio's lightning connector to fit.

One salesman told me that Apple has mandated the size of the docking connector due to the stability of the iPhone when docked. Take this with a grain of salt, it was a salesman who said it, but it DOES seem to be the case. (no pun intended) He said that the minimum size of the dock support was the size of the 30 pin to lightning Apple accessory.

I have tried to find a quality case with a opening that will fit the Apple adapter and that isn't easy to find either.

I had an ihome clock radio for years, but it had the 30 pin connector. It was so easy to plug it in and charge at the bedside. I wish I could find something similar now.

Quick fix for Ihome iDL45 and iPhones with cases

Just a heads up for those who want to get or have the Ihome idl45 and use it with their case attached while on the dock, but can't since the support bar for the iPad gets in the way. Anyways, I was bored today and wanted to see if the bar could be removed without damaging the unit. Turns out it was really easy and took less than 10 minutes. I'd post pictures of the whole process, but don't want to take it apart again, but it's pretty simple.

You'll need the following:

Small phillips head screwdriver.
Small flat head screwdriver.

1. Turn the unit upside down and unscrew the 8 black screws with the phillips screwdriver.

2. Remove the side panels and you'll see that the top panel has a ribbon connected to a circuit board .

3. CAREFULLY pull the tab that connects the ribbon to the circuit board and set aside.

4. Unscrew the 4 silver screws that connect the circuit board to the body, then pull it out and set aside.

5. You'll see the support bar is connected by two more screws. Remove those and then use a flat head screwdriver to loosen and pry it out.

Take out the bar and set it aside for possible future use and then just reassemble everything, by doing steps 5 to 1. If you don't like or use the radio antenna, just tuck it in the body before you're done and it looks a lot cleaner.

Final Product shot with my Speck Candyshell flip. Connects just fine! :D

Another alarm clock popped up recently, the Gear4 Halo 3 alarm clock, which is an 'App-enhanced alarm clock for iPhone 5 and iPod'.

Looking to see if anyone here has any hands-on experience with one of these & its SoundHive app. I just got mine in & hooked up and am noticing some differences from it to my old Halo 2/SmartLink combo. Some not-so-big & some a downright pain in the butt.

Alarm Clock w/ Lightning Connector

The smaller Sony Clock Radio is currently on sale for $49 with free shipping, in case someone doesn't have one by now.

How is the sound on this one? My current one will get me up in the morning, along with an alarm on my iPhone and MBP.

A few things I'm worried about with docks like this.... if I have it set to off or radio and a call comes through, will iPhone route the ring through Lightning and the dock ignore it since I'm listening to the radio? Same question but with the alarm.

I really want to get a dock since I'm using my 5S without a case and my 4S' back got scratched up by placing it on my nightstand. The Apple one is $30 and I'm thinking for just a bit more I can get rid of my alarm clock and declutter my nightstand.

Any updates? Anyone find a working Alarm Clock/dock that works with a case?

I have a Spigen Ultra Hybrid and wonder if it would work with one of these?
