So, does anyone think Vaughn is actually dead?
No. I think the whole team faked it (including Sydney's worried looks in the hospital and the somber funeral) as a way to send Vaughn undercover. Why? Two reasons:

1. If he were really going to die, he'd die saving Sydney or saving the world, like a proper hero, not from an ambush in a routine operation.

2. Michael Vartan is one of the stars and I've heard no gossip that the actor is leaving the show, or wants to.

How does anyone survive a dozen bullets into the chest from a high powered semi-automatic? And normally, most smart criminals finish off their enemies with a single bullet into the head.

Man, this show is becoming ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as when the Godfather got shot in the market.

I absolutely can't wait to see Season 5!

Only hiccup is I have no willpower when it comes to avoiding threads that are talking about shows I like!
Even in a couple of other forums that use spoilers... I always have to look!
sigh...

I completely agree. I'd expect Sydney to be an emotional wreck if the father of her newly discovered baby is killed. All a set-up.

I hope we see lots more of Marshall's new nemesis. Alias definitely needs more Marshall.

Hopefully, season 4 was just an aberration while Lost was being developed, and JJ will be able to focus more on Alias this year.

...and it was a closed casket. why would that be? must be because Vaughn wasn't inside, there wasn't any facial injuries or anything that would neccessitate that.

however, if they were going to kill him off, now would be the time to do it, first show of the season and all...

So if this was all for show, I'm guessing the doctors and the nurses were in on the deception as well? And I guess these doctors also worked at the hospital for a while since the people being deceived probably would be doing background checks on the hospital staff.

And what about the interrogator who was also at the train station? Did the entire interrogation happen for show? Ok. I'm really confused. Someone fill me in.

as he got shot... I did think his jacket was too full...
looked like a vest underneath?!

And if he did die - surely they would have built it up better?
They went from incident to hospital to funeral to 4 months after too quickly.

On another note - the first shot of Sydney in the Church... was the most obvious that she is pregnant in real life I think... her cleavage was HUGE!?!

Mmmm Vaughan seems to have been removed from the opening credits in episode 3?!
And they have a new guy already?

I'm reading rumblings Alias might be cancelled. That would be too bad, although the season started off pretty awful. The plot in episodes 2 and 3 felt rushed. And the premise of another fake CIA is becoming really lazy on the writers' part. They are 70th in the ratings. That's pretty bad for a TV series with this level of production quality.

I doubt it - when sydney first sees the body on the airplane, you get a quick glimpse of the man's head - he appeared to be older, with white/silvery hair.

ok his father then?

I don't think that Vaughn is dead. Some of my University apartment neighbors were in tears and shocked at seeing Vaughn die. I had to tell them that this was "Alias" and that nothing really happens exactly how you see it. Anyway, at first I thought that Vaughn died because he was going to leave the show. But now I don't know.

i just got into alias a couple of weeks ago when i caught a couple of episodes from season 1 on TNT.

thisshow is awesome. i wished it didn't take me 5 years to get into it. i love the cia/spy genre and especially like looking at jennifer garner.

so now i am playing catch upand hope to soon rent the whole 1st season and start at ground zero.
