I wonder if the plastic pieces on all four corners have a cutout in them the width of the iPhone's metal band. That as they lock the phone in vertically and horizontally would prevent the phone from moving forward or back in the frame thus preventing any front or rear glass contact with the aluminum?? I'm no engineer (obviously) but I think they would be round with a notch cut in them where they contact the iPhone's metal band and cradle it instead of being round surface touching round surface which would provide no lateral grip if that's what it's called. Otherwise I think eventually it would work its way forward or back and touch the case...I know the plastic pieces won't let it move vertically or horizontally cause they hold all four corners but I don't think they can prevent it from moving forward in the case if there's a gap in front and in back if it's floating in there...:apple:

If this doesn't make sense think of it like this....think of KaraKustoms picture of it on their website now imagine trying to push the phone out the front or the back with the case on......not the top, bottom, or sides. like if you would slam it flat on its back or front (not that anyone will do this) but if enough g-forces are placed in that way what's to prevent it from sliding that 1/4 mm or whatever and contacting case to glass?? unless it's locked it through the metal band in notches on the plastic/derlin corners to keep it in place. After looking closer at the pic on their website it looks like it just floats in their.

(hope its derlin I have frame sliders on my motorcycle made of this plastic, pretty dense stuff)

Good find, I wondered how that case would fit without touching the glass.

I'll confirm this when I have it. Hopefully next week ;-)
My guess is that the four spacers would have to be tight fitted at the phone's four corners as I suspected... None the less I would still like a padding layer between the glass and the case to absorb the shock when dropped.

last bit of that blog entry reads as "Ultimately, it breaks down like this: it’s the first aluminum iPhone 4 case released on the market, and it’s one of the cheapest. If it were up to me, I’d buy one tomorrow."

has this guy been under a rock for a few months??? its far from the first aluminum case on the market at this point.

more pixtures of how it actually sits on the phone woulda been nice too...ohwell

Yeah, that added some info but the reviewer is clueless of the market. And nothing on performance.

I really like this one.... $175 though

I might order it anyway...

i think we're on the same page...
that's why i will have a liner inside of the case facing the glass...at least on the front face of the phone.

ExoVault's now showing on the home page a possible 2 week turn time for new orders.....

It's been listed as that for about a month now. I wonder if they are really getting that many orders, or if it's just that slow of a process to make them. I love the idea of the aluminum (or brass) and wood though.

Oh, sorry, just now noticed, always just looking at the product images.

I like the design, but I've now got 3 cases for the iP4 (2 still in transit).....turning into an obsession :D:eek:

3?? Amateur! You've got to get some more cases just to post on here! I'm over 25 now for this stupid phone. And there are many people on here with more than that. Crazy people we are...

I've only had the iP4 for 3 weeks! Give me some time O' Master....... :)

Now this is more like it, lots of cool stuff to talk about and thoughtful comparison. I almost dont know where to start. I guess with the Blog entry about the Karas and how the phone actually sits in the case, I am really excited to see the method for securing it in place, now more than I was excited about the style/design when it was first brought to our attention. The description in the blog was a little vague but it leads me to some interesting conclusions that I cant quite put into words.
Secondly, I really like the Exovault Exo5, the model posted above here somewhere. I like it in brass but I want a different engraving. So, being the thoroughly annoying customer I can be at times, I emailed them again. The response was that they have enough orders now to keep them somewhere around 2 weeks from order time to ship time. I brought up the idea of special ordering a brass case with some steam-punk like gears engraved, and Exovault recommended that I get the un-engraved case and take to a jeweler or something along those lines, unless I was willing to wait quite a long while for them to get to a point where it would be feasible to do a custom or new design. Which I can completely understand, the machine work and hand assembly for the Exo5 has got to be time consuming especially with the engraving. Brass with rosewood inlays and the paisley scrolling on the back is really pretty. I also asked if the brass causes more or less signal degradation than aluminum, I believe brass is more dense but not sure, the response to that was an "I don't know." Either way the case is secured by magnets on the top and bottom corners of the hinged lid, making quick removal faster than most any of the other cases on the market, plastic, rubber, leather or metal. and they are felt lined too, to protect from scratching.

Dang pinkie, thats a lot of info on the EXO 5, you make want it even more now. I emailed them today and asked about signal loss. no reponse yet. I also know if you do not like the magnet idea you can request a screw type assembly. I am waiting to hear what head type the screws are that they use... Anyone know, hex?
