As usual. Hype hype. Pump it up Apple.
It is bad PR for Apple. Quantities unable to meet excessive consumer demand is one thing - that story will play all day for Apple. However, no phones available whatsoever is a screwup and looks bad. Period.

I bet these were all supposed to originally release on the 23rd and then when the Note Explosion news came out they pushed up the release to try and cover that... obviously weren't prepared
Nope. Otherwise ship dates would have fallen to October just a few hours after pre-order launch.

Apple was late to the gate in getting production started on the 7 series. Water resistance issue quality issue.

There was only one week between preorders and launch day for them to adjust and catch up on building inventory this year compared to last year.

I had a chance to order my Black 7plus through ATT at about 03:05 est.

I ended up waiting for the Apple site to go live for me and it did at about 03:18 est.

Got my email order confirmation at 03:22 est.

Now, I hope and wonder if I did the best thing by waiting for what I assumed would be the best chance to get a launch day phone.

And I also hope the water resistance issue was actually rectified and the phone not forced into, production in the name of stock prices.

What water resistance issue?

Actually, if you would have read the post the first time, you would not have to go back and re-read it or even having this useless conversation, but being you made yourself look silly by quoting me, in which I already commented on the exact same thing, says little about your efforts to participate in a conversation about the iPhone, versus argue over your own mistake. Oh well, no sense talking to a wall.
Who are you Relentness Power and what do you have to hide! LOL! Forstall in disguise ?

Wow. Is this the first time that all colors/size for a particular model has been entirely sold out before launch day?
I think this year is a little different. A lot of people with the iPhone Upgrade Program were upset that, due to hiccups with the computer system, they weren't going to be receiving a device on launch day despite attempting to order within minutes of pre-orders starting.

Apple told these people to call them and that they would find a workaround.

Typically Apple sets aside some devices for the retail stores, and I believe they did this year too, but decided to give them to the upset IUP people instead.

"People like that" are professional line-sitters who are there to immediately flip whatever merchandise they can get their hands on. The ones who do it "for fun"? All I can say is mental illness is a serious problem that affects a lot of people, and we could do a better job.

The line waiting for the first few iPhones was a publicity stunt. Free media and social attention, all they had to do was treat their customers the same way a Dominus treats his gladiators, "I own you!! Now go fight to the death in that arena over there so I can make a few extra bucks." Unless you want to believe the world's most valuable company (whose core business is tech) couldn't figure out present day's pre-ordering & reservations system sooner.

Funny stuff...

Millions of Gold, Pink, and Silver out there still.

I'll,see if I can find the article on a seal issue I read.

Also the A10 was supposedly delayed a bit because of an earthquake in Japan.

I believe you thinking of the Sony Camera Module for the 7 that was effected by the Taiwanese Earthquake. No A10 issues that I'm aware of. :apple:

Hmm, Do I bother attempting to swap out my reserved a 128GB Gold 7+ for pickup tomorrow (IUP - UK), for the Black version?

The reason why I believe the jet black is popular is because throughout the leaks, most of it was for the matte black (aka space black). I believe the manufacturing for the jet black came late into the stages. That's my theory why it has become so scarce and Apple probably didn't expect it to become so popular. Jet black was probably a late edition and unexpected success.

If you don't plan being an iPhone 7+ scalper, I really don't see anything bad at waiting for it even if it takes a month or so. Give it some time to iron out all the bugs. Look at Note7 owners. It took only two weeks until Samsung did the recall. Who knows what early issues and -gate problems comes out of the 7? Your delivery might be delayed, but you still have time to cancel your order and change your mind if you don't like what you see.

Patience is a virtue. This is basically what early adopters are for these launch days...

Yup, guinea pigs to do some beta testing for you. They pay all that money to be the first owning it and then the first to experience problems. That's like signing up to be in the front line during a war. Chillax. Wait for all the reviews and early issues to be sorted out. I bet some people who had their Note7 exploded on them wished they waited.

What's the over/under this is directly related to the iPhone Upgrade Program class action? I'd bet they're pulling store alotment in order to fill the mounting claims related to that fiasco.

I agree jet black was a late choice from Apple. But they must have instantly known it would be a hit. And putting it front and centre at the keynote and on all marketing materials both confirmed and strengthened that.

I still wonder why they went with this second black. Most likely a test run for next year

Welp. I'm usually a wait in line on launch day type of guy (somehow, luckily, I always end up near the front of the line too!) but this year, I decided to try my luck at pre-ordering. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to get a launch day arrival, but a week later on the 23rd (27th at the absolute latest -- Apple rep on the phone said it could arrive on the 21st or 22nd though) isn't too bad either ... considering some people have to wait until October/November to get theirs.

Also, my order just changed today from "processing" to "preparing for shipment!" Fingers crossed that it ships out tomorrow and gets here BEFORE the 23rd!!!

Sure does make demand seem higher by making far less than you know will be ordered. Suddenly the other people who didn't want one now are like, "wait they ran out? This must be much better than I thought".

here is an idea apple, ALLOCATE stock for retail at launch day.

And given the logistics involved, this was a planned moved all along. They even had the prepared press release....

You can all blame Angela for this, when I went to buy the new MacBook, no retail stores had them for months, the staff just kept pushing me to online .

Now iPhone users are getting the Angela retail treatment.....

We get it apple, build the hype for a phone that looks the same 3 years running......its in such a huge demand, I really want it now, better order online asap, so I don't have to wait to the new year..... this followed by reports next year that iPhone sales have taken a downward spiral.....Apple markerting is the only thing innovating at the moment....and doing major overtime.
There probably were devices allocated for retail stock, but in an effort to appease all the people upset with the IUP issues, I bet they're giving the devices to them instead.

I contacted my business rep at our local Apple store and they said they have not received any kind of information from corporate Apple of any kind of shortage for walkins. They had heard the rumors same as all of us but said they have not received any official communications from Apple.

Is it possible some locations had their shipments of phones allotted for walkins already shipped out before this shortage was announced. If that's the case it's possible that some Apple stores may have stock while others will not.

I just called my local Apple store and was told this exact same thing. When I mentioned that I heard they would not have stock if the iPhone 7 Plus on launch day she just said "Where did you hear that?" She put be on a brief hold to go check on some stock information for me and said that they WILL have stock of all phones tomorrow. It might be limited stock, but they will have some stock. As far as the days after, there's no guarantee they will get more stock in Saturday for the new reservations that will begin, but she said I can check online Saturday morning and see if there are any available.
I'm trying to get the 32 silver 7+.

EDIT: Now to decide if that info is enough for me, or if I should call my other local Apple Store. I live right between two of them...
