You can use the monitors you currently have, you know.

Starting a new business on 1st Jan with Mac Pro at the core so I don't have any existing monitors spare to use. 4K monitors are going to cost a fair bit so I don't want to have to buy another make then replace them if Apple comes out with a fantastic new display in a few months. I honestly don't know why it's so hard for them to join the dots and update their displays at the same time.

I'm still not too keen on the black plastic cylindrical form factor. With wires coming out everywhere, not a very premium look on the desk. Blech!

:(

it's not black plastic (it's metal) and i really don't get the 'wires everywhere' thing.. count the wires coming off your current mp.. count required wires with nmp..

the difference in my case is 1.. 1 less
i can see situations which might require 1 or maybe 2 more cables but.. so what? it's not as if the mp1 is a wireless computer or smthng

This device is not black plastic. Of course you already knew that. ;)

So.....

If i get one of those Pegasus TB disk Arrays to go along with this MacPro, and I fill it exclusively with my 4 SATA3 SSDs....i can take the fan out of the Pegasus right?

Since SSDs don't need cooling?

(I'm big on silence)

Here was me thinking that getting my hands on one of these would be simple, sell Mac Pro 5.1 and buy a 6.1.

Well gosh darn it no-one seems to want my Mac Pro

Wow I'm surprised nobody wants a 5.1 MP. Where do you live? Even in the small city where I live, the traditional Mac Pro's will be highly sought-after if Apple stops making them. Maybe call up a Film/TV post-production shop.

I'm happy with Apple bringing production back to the States. I hope they continue this trend and continue to expand the production in the near future to other product lines.

2 things,
please have displays that match.
Barring that,
how about keyboard/mouse/trackpad that match?

I can't believe that I am the only one who hates white keys on a keyboard.
If you do a lot of keyboarding that white gets dingy and gross pretty fast.

just an FYI the new Mac Pro does NOT come with a keyboard or mouse.....

WTF!?

yeah i was just going to say that... i guess if you are spending 3 grand you have enough for a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and another HD because of the small hard drive in these things.... sooo looking at more of a $4500 dollar base model

Ok let's say you need an Aja card or something, then you'll put one of sonnets boxes next to the raid. But seriously, whoever works with this sort of devices, will have it stored not in the actual suite itself but in a separate room...

The housings are one way, there also external thunderbolt direct replacements for the Aja (or other brands) cards. Manyof them sit in nice neat desktop racks and are a much better solution than the PCI cards ever were.

The Mac Pro dropping internal PCI helps make sure even more peripherals will move into the future. This is a big boost for iMac/Mini and Laptop users too.

Yes you can. Too bad that new MP sitting on top of the Pegasus box will look ugly (compared to old MP with SSDs inside).

WTF!?

On my workbench I already have two keyboards, a Wacom, a Magic Trackpad, and two wireless mice. I have a Magic Mouse sitting in a drawer, unused. The last thing I need is to be forced to accept another pair of input devices I neither need nor want. I consider it a good thing they let you add those separately.

a few well positioned (or lucky) coffee spills will camo the grunge quite nicely

Need a new machine for pro audio production. But I'm gonna hold off until I know absolutely sure that the nMP is not plagued by the same faulty audio defects they introduced with the latest iMac.

The wires all come out of the same side of the box they always have. Since most people actually using the old pros professionally used external storage, it is really not a big deal.

Man $10,000 really is a good price for a system like this.

Not the most efficient if you've got an equipment rack/room full of OG Mac Pros, but definitely a good price if you're a solo shop, boutique shop, or any shop looking to replace iMacs, Mac Minis, and MBPs.

I am not pressed about displays. They'll be here when they get here, and in the meantime you can pick up a TBolt display, then sell them when the new ones are released.

10,000 for one machine is a terrible price for a small shop.

I just pre ordered a Caldigit T3, it has 17 dB's noise rating, which is dead silent.

Perhaps, but $5k--the amount I have set aside in my one-man shop--is just fine for me. I expect to be able to spec out a very useful machine for that, one which will pay for itself quickly enough. Not everyone is looking to leap up to the highest rung of this ladder.

Haha

Actually the MP will be on the floor to double as a trash receptacle, while the Pegasus will be on my desk ;-)

ps: Thanks for answering my question. Merry Holidays.
