The wires all come out of the same side of the box they always have. Since most people actually using the old pros professionally used external storage, it is really not a big deal.

nah.. I have wires coming out of the front and back of my computer. (5 in back.. 2 in front-- on the floor mind you).. looking forward to less clutter with the nmp. ;)

[edit]-- oh wait.. 6 in back.. forgot about the keyboard.

Starting a new business on 1st Jan with Mac Pro at the core so I don't have any existing monitors spare to use. 4K monitors are going to cost a fair bit so I don't want to have to buy another make then replace them if Apple comes out with a fantastic new display in a few months. I honestly don't know why it's so hard for them to join the dots and update their displays at the same time.

Honestly, this is a little early in the game for 4K monitors. Your choices are few and expensive, so you're going to have to wait anyway.

And when was the last time pros used Apple displays for anything? They haven't made a suitable display since the matte 30" ACD. Who knows what they will eventually release. It might be glossy for all we know.

why does it say "available to order", and not simply "available".

This looks like a pre-order announcement.

Good catch. Though would they mention retails stores if it was just pre-ordering? People would be disappointed if they drive to a retail store and can't walk out the door with one.

I'd reckon it will be on sale tomorrow, but with limited stock at launch; whether that's due to a new manufacturing plant/process/team, or they simply aren't sure how well a 3-10K Mac will sell so are starting off with a limited production run.

The wording might just be to soften availability expectations a little.

I just pre ordered a Caldigit T3, it has 17 dB's noise rating, which is dead silent.

You can also just run the storage into a closet (assuming it is properly cooled/powered). Even for a home studio this is pretty easy to do, and optical t-bolt cables are getting reasonably priced now. With 6 ports you can afford to run two of them out of the room keep 3 for other devices and displays and another for capture devices (if needed)

That's not usable for me, I'll be swapping disks in and out, so I need the enclosure on the desk.

Some of the neg comments obviously not from actual pros targets for this machine. Price point -- seems reasonable and $ re-coupable for what you get. Plastic chasis -- ha. ha. Obviously a comment from an uneducated mud slinger. Cable snakes. C'mon what pro doesn't have to deal with that? It comes w/ the territory.

Personally, I'm out of the running for now as a hobby (up to now routinely spend $2200-2500 on MPs but that was total inc. HDs, RAM, etc, not just the starter kit), but if I were a pro what would bother me is only the promise of expansion by 3rd party vendors. The new MP clearly has lot of horse power the lack of TB, much less TB2 peripherals is a serious barrier to spending mega $ on a workstation. And where is the updated Cinema Display w/ 4K, USB3 and TB2?

The mini was the only Mac not updated last year so I'm hoping its because Apple will be beefing up a model for the hobbyist/prosumer market but wants to firmly plant the new MP as flagship first.

There have been some sub-$500 4K TV deals floating around this shopping season. I don't think you'll have to wait very long.

Why is it Apple's job to make you a display? You know that there are countless display manufacturers, right?
But none of them has a built-in TB dock (they might have TB feed-through).

You also know that even if Apple made a display, you would just complain about it being 'too thin' and 'too expensive' before buying from someone else anyways, right?
Of course, but if you subtract the price of a TB dock, that difference won't be so large anymore.

"The most powerful Mac ever"? Whoa! I think we were all thrown for a loop on that one. :p

That being said, the G4 Cube was more expandable and upgradeable. (Seriously.)

They could at least give us the BTO options to play around with now so people already know what config to buy, instead of scrambling to order quickly before they sell out.

Those TVs aren't suitable monitors. They are limited to 30Hz over HDMI.

Dell has a pretty reasonable looking sub $1000 4K DisplayPort compatible display coming out soon, though.

Yawn...........
Expensive.
Cables everywhere.
For pro audio, an expansion chassis is now mandatory where before it was only required in the larger configurations.

I like my big box of a MacPro that I have right now.
I'll be hanging on until it dies.

Wow I'm surprised nobody wants a 5.1 MP. Where do you live? Even in the small city where I live, the traditional Mac Pro's will be highly sought-after if Apple stops making them. Maybe call up a Film/TV post-production shop.

Its a UK thing I think lol - not to worry she will serve me well until the right person comes along

My RMBP is limited to 24Hz for 4k over HDMI. Good for movies. And it is slower than my 2009 MP by 10%.

Will be ordering 2 of these tomorrow. Can't WAIT!!! :D

Something in the $4500-$5000 range. I'm hoping I can down grade the video cards and go for the larger 512GB and more ram. Most likely will have to get the ram separate from elsewhere. I don't need the video cards as much as I need the CPU and PCI-e SSD. I currently have 2 Nvidia GTX 285 Mac editions in my 2009 Mac Pro now. The D300 is SURE to be way better, so no need for the D500-D700. I just need 3 displays and something to convert thunderbolt to Fiber for my networking. IS there such an adapter? Or will I have to go with a PCI expansion chassis of some kind to make that happen. I'd prefer not to.

I feel like this is some horrible joke.... like that bar sign that says "free beer tomorrow"..... Tomorrow will never come. Hurry up already Mr Cook.
