Yeah, I heard about ray tracing (which I don't need, at all, I simply play no games whatsoever on my phone).

But the battery life doesn't improve.

Their priorities aren't mine, for sure.

I didn't say it was apple's fault.. I said apple hasn't had the opportunity to increase eSim adoption - apple very often moves the market by making design & tech decisions - point still stands US devices/users are left orphaned (yes dramatic statement) & stuck/dependent on eSim while ROW can still use any old sim....
The reality is that the rest of the world isn't as eSIM ready as the US. If the carriers here (Canada) had eSIM only models they would take advantage of it to exploit their customers.

Regardless, most users don't have an iPhone 14 so it's only a minority of people who don't have a SIM slot. Over time even with the US alone the pressure to properly support eSIM will grow thanks to travel.

Here's the bad news: US Devices are all dual eSim... UK (& assuming but haven't checked ROW) are still eSim + nano Sim... so Apple hasn't had the opportunity (courage) to increase eSim adoption across ROW.. which means US will continue to have issues getting eSim's when traveling/moving to other countries.. & before everyone starts with "I can get an airlo sim for $xx" - you're missing the point.. my daughter just moved to the UK from USA & getting EE to issue an eSim is a fiasco. I can share the details if anyone cares..

Apple doesn't have the power outside the U.S. to force carriers into eSIM.

There's no real benefits to eSIM. Carriers lose control to Apple because Apple now serves as a gatekeeper for cellular services. Don't like a particular carrier? That carrier no longer shows up on the list on the iPhone. Customers lose privacy with eSIM meaning no more cash payments or device transfers.

In my experience, when Apple doesn't make a big deal out of battery life improvements, it is usually a bad sign for real-world battery life. I've been very happy with the battery life of my 13 Pro Max (it's the main reason I switched from Android). I don't want to go backwards. Hopefully 16 Pro Max (rumored to be a larger device) will be another battery life leap.

My 11 pro released 4 yrs ago in 2019 still has excellent battery life gets me through the entire day and still have 20% by end of day. I’ve never had an iPhone that got this kind of battery usage.

Will the 15 pro get better battery usage? IDK

agree.. if it wasn't for exchange rate I might just buy UK iPhones (for the next version or two).. even then it still might be worth buying non-US devices. eSims have their place but physical sims have so many other advantages (including like you mentioned privacy in authoritarian countries)..

Well, this year looks more improvement than innovation. Mostly cosmetics with titanium alloy, recycled plastic braids etc. More money saved for next year :)

Probably depends on what you're doing. If you're out in direct sunlight using the display to play a raytraced game your iPhone 15 Pro Max probably needs a magsafe battery pack.
Direct sun at 6am. Lol. This is just the podcasts app, YouTube and the news/mail app. No games at all.

Can someone explain how 15PM has same battery life as 14PM on playback yet the 13PM outperforms 14PM on battery life? This is a step backwards.

For those who care about the cameras the 5x periscope zoom on the Pro Max looks like the biggest new feature to me. And USB-C, but for me that’s more of an “about bl**dy time” feature so while I’m delighted to finally see it I’m unwilling to give Apple too much of a pat on the back for that one given that imo we should have had that at least a year ago.

And… as I just checked at least for now Apple Magsafe Battery pack is discontinued 😂 could not find it in Apple Store as they hide it lacking usb-c or what?

With it being more efficient with the new A17, I bet they cheaped out and used smaller batteries.
Well since it’s the lightest pro model I’d say yes they probably made the batteries size smaller.

My 11 pro weights 188 grams
The 15 pro weights 187 grams

So yeah apple reduced weight by 1 gram to claim the lightest pro ever. Lol

I am all for a better environment, but has any ever thought about the fact that the recycled materials in the batteries were already done with the iPhone 14 models. Hence the rapid battery health declining news?

That’s probably the biggest surprise of the day for me with the iPhone 15 Pro. I really thought the A17 would give us a significant increase in battery life. Really disappointing. Maybe the biggest disappointment with the iPhone 15 Pro. At least we knew it wasn’t getting the periscope camera ahead of time so we were prepared for that disappointment. I guess that’s the reason we’re getting stacked battery tech with the 16 Pro next year.
