Laugh now. In the not so distant future, the self-serve terminal at the grocery store will refuse to sell you sweets and carb-laden foods because of your medical Body Mass Index, as reported to your bank (who will stop the transaction) by your Global Identity Profile.

See, practices like this are already the everyday norm in China, which disallows Google largely to replace it with their own data-gathering processes. You think some do-gooder, probably an appointee in a ministry or federal department, won't try to promote something like that "for the good of everyone?" Think again.

In a digital world, the one with the data is king. All else are peasants. Or subjects. Or servants.
Hey quick, Amazon is having a flash sale on TinFoil hats, free delivery... I fail to understand how people that live in a world like this are on the internet at all. MacRumors alone has 94 trackers listed in Safari privacy report.

Not sure that Google press releases rank very high in terms of their trustworthiness.
Not knowing who actually owns the majority of VPN companies and what goes on behind closed doors, is a much bigger problem that many ignore. Slick advertising has replaced common sense.

People hate on Google so much it's kind of funny. People know Google makes most of its money from data and ads already.
Let's forget all the work they did creating PageRank, Gmail in 2004 everybody begging for an invite, Google Maps (original Maps on iPhone for a while), YouTube acquisition and growth, I'm sure NOBODY uses YouTube, buying DoubleClick (which is why most people hate Google and their ad business), Chrome Browser.
Yes Android isn't as great as iOS, yes they create and destroy tons of products, Google Reeder, Google+ etc etc. They aren't some perfect amazing company.

Google Search helped the internet explode in use and popularity. No hate and punching on Google will ever change that.
Also Privacy and Internet in the same sentence are hilarious. It's okay, just put it all on Google ;)
I agree, but it's not that funny, just tiresome, we've heard it all before, over and over again; it's border OCD, really.

The top reason I even think about using VPN is to try to hide away from Google and Facebook.. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
A VPN won't stop that. Some VPN's like NordVPN have tracking blocking as an option but even then it won't 100% stop Google and Facebook from following/tracking your activity & serving you ads.

The Google privacy stuff is akin to old people believing everything they read on Facebook. They read it once in a blog about sixteen years ago, so it must be true.

To me, Google One is like paying Google to use your information to make them billions. The problem is, their email, calendar, assistant, and Photos app, are all superior to Apple's. They are more functional and aesthetically pleasing. For all the fuss Apple makes about their cameras, their photo app is terrible at searching, organization, and even editing. Do a magic eraser for goodness sake...

And, Apple's pages is not the most shareable friendly service, compared to Google Docs, which a huge number of people use.

Don't get me started on Siri...

People here acting like Apple aint doing what Google will do with your information.

If you think Apple isn't collecting your data and planning to sell it then jokes on you. Private Relay is the same thing. They are tracking everything you visit in Safari.

but sure let's give Google a kick because they're honest about it and their products are actually better quality!

And the link I sent you has Android only.

Yes, and the page you linked appears to be outdated (needs to be updated) as Google VPN access is also available for iOS. The $15/month plan that was mentioned in post #8 is listed in the link and screen shot I had posted. The plan states that VPN access is available for Android and iOS.

This is all about ideology and politics. I would no sooner buy a Google VPN than I would one from Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, or even Twitter. Or one subsidized by the US Federal government. Or from China, for that matter.

It's getting so I might have to create my own VPN.

WG is coming to the FreeBSD kernel. I wonder of macOS will adopt it?

So is believing that Apple's privacy is anything but a marketing tactic.

VPN Access from Google. That's funny, tell another one.
I read it also comes with Bernie Madoff Investments at no extra charge, and if you act now you get complimentary identity protection from Nigerian royalty. They've also partnered with Fly by Night Extended Auto Warranties, and you can get this amazing device that just burns fat away 'as seen on TV.' If you also subscribe to Google's Patreon page, you won't believe what happens next (to your bank account, I mean).

It is rather like asking a couple of bull sharks to babysit a wounded and bleeding tuna. Maybe someone should explain with VPN stands for to them.

We even had to stop using Google Analytics and had to switch to a local based company and also a lot of website owners are currently being fined for implementing Google Fonts. It’s crazy out there
Personally from watching the news and friends traveling I would be far more concerned about physical safety, if you are in Mexico, than any hysteria over Google. Who vets the local companies? The government?

Do all of you anti-google people also not interact with people that use google products. Asking for a friend… lol.
Right. Because limiting Google's data harvesting is such a terrible endeavor that you might as well just give all of your information to them.

Yes, cross-data harvesting is a thing, like you being in someone's contacts on a Google phone or sending emails to someone with a Gmail. Obviously those kinds of things allow them to build a profile on you. It's similar with Facebook as well. There's nothing wrong with limiting your information being given to these companies. What doesn't make sense is using a VPN from Google in which literally any and all data on the network is being routed through Google's servers. This is just ridiculous on so many levels. And if you're okay with this, I don't know what to tell you.

I doubt that any of the popular paid VPN apps such as Express, CyberGhost, Nord etc. do not spy on you …
NordVPN is based in Panama and is outside US jurisdiction and isn't a part of the 14 eyes countries. They have been audited for years showing no user data retention. So as it stands right now, unless something changes, they are still good. There was a hacking incident that they weren't transparent about until later on, which left a sour taste in people's mouths, but no user data was leaked in the incident. I've used them for years. ExpressVPN used to be good. In fact, they were literally raided by police, and zero user data was found on their servers. But recently, they were bought out by a data harvesting company and can no longer be trusted. Snowden doesn't recommend them either because of this. So they're garbage now. I don't know anything about CyberGhost.

The best for security and privacy overall though goes to Mullvad VPN. You can actually send them cash in an envelop to keep your subscription active so that there isn't any digital fingerprint tied to you. I've since switched to Mullvad VPN ... if that matters.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you saying that because some companies possibly can't be trusted so you should ... again ... give literally 100% of any and all data to Google as it's routed through their servers? I don't understand the logic.

Don't use a Google VPN. Period. It's idiotic.

Which is why you use something like Brave or Firefox (there are add ons like Google and Facebook Container on Firefox that prevent this from happening across the web) with ad blocking and hardening features set up. You can also set up your browser with an app like Cookiebro that deletes all of Google's and Facebook's cookies every time you close your browser and it only keeps cookies for websites you want to stay logged in. There's a million ways to prevent Google and Facebook tracking. You're right, a VPN won't prevent cookie tracking. That's something you should be taking care of yourself. Use Brave or Firefox. Don't use Chrome or Edge.

It’s my understanding that Google sells targeted ads based on user information. Not the user information itself.
Real time bidding of ad happens on user data collected. Google says it doesn’t sell your name and personal identifiable information but they do identify users with their own IDs. Advertisers aren’t bidding by trusting google. They use the data to decide which user the ad is shown.

Agreed.

It's just slightly alarming that people think a VPN is the complete answer to privacy concerns. It really isn't.

That’s awesome!

I get my Google One through T-Mobile because T-Mobile offers a plan for $15/month that includes 2TB for Google Drive, etc. and unlimited photo and video back up with Google Photos

I’m glad that I’ll also now have VPN included in my Google One plan as well - having a VPN will be great for when I travel overseas
Googles VPN doesn’t not work with streaming services or torrent. Just an FYI.

Are there for real people who pay full price for Google services? I mean, C'mon. Why should I pay 2$ per months if I can get them via Turkey/Argentina/India or Pakistan for roughly 20cents?
