All the Liquid Glass Changes in macOS Golden Gate

I can't speak for others, but for me it was two things:
- The radius of the corners was too big. Windows looked like cutesy bubbles to me.
- Their implementation was inconsistent — not only with third parties, but also with Apple's own apps.

The two things that irked me the most with the 26 OS updates, being addressed. It is shocking that Apple actually listend to their users. Or it tells you how strong/many the complaints were.

They were rounded a bit too much for many of us, and there wasn't uniformity of the radius choice across all Apps/Windows. Both have been rectified it would appear.
I was typing as @tweaknmod was it looks like. His post above is better than mine and I agree with what he said.

I have never even thought anything about the rounded corners in apps. I'm not even sure I'll even notice whatever changes they are making for this version. Once you spend a week or so with the new UI, it just becomes the norm. I didn't find LG in OS26 to be a super drastic change. I think using Dark Mode as well perhaps mitigates the change a bit.

You've been good all along and the changes will make it better for those of us who have noticed and didn't like things in Tahoe.

I don't want an ultra-clear version of Liquid Glass; therefore, I don't want you to be happy and have that option either.
Fixed that for you.
No one is forcing you to slide it over to ultra-clear. Why do you care if someone else wants to be able to?

The name "Golden Gate" for the entrance to San Francisco Bay predates the bridge by many decades. The entrance to San Diego Bay is the "Silver Gate".
I think I will bypass Tahoe for my three Mac's in use (two MBP's have been retired) and try out "Golden Gate" after it has been released and complaints die down.

I admit I was being a bit facetious in my previous post.
If somebody wants to go fully transparent, why not.
That said, I believe there are objective issues with readability in high-transparency interfaces.
The option of easily reducing transparency (and it still looking good) is more important than to increase it.
Looks much better, especially the sidebars and the rounded window corners. The button islands are still overly rounded to where they don't make sense in the mostly rectangular UI, could square those off more like the windows to make it look cleaner.

Somehow I like Tahoe better. But I am not picky anyway. As long as they don’t change too much the structure of macOS that I am used to, I don’t care if the buttons and menus look different every couple of years. If anything I always try to appreciate the thought some designers put into a new look.
When I don’t like something about a design change, it’s always minor stuff, that might annoy me briefly and then I get work with it. Sometimes I might even miss the originally annoying menu after the next update changes it again.

Definitely small but welcome changes. I hated the excess edge from inspector windows.

Agree. I want full transparency that way when I'm behind on a work project I can blame Apple and macOS 27.

Ayup - it's like thousands of people screaming about these things finally produced genuine results. I hate LG in iOS26, which I was forced into using to pair my Airpod Pros 3. If this is consistent across MacOS 27 and iOS 27, the worse offending stuff is at least on the path to remediation.

They literally went back to the old design. What a damn shame. I thought apple was a forwards thinking company. Not a company stuck in the past. It makes me so upset that we can’t enjoy new experiences because the boomers will complain and ruin it for these of us (i want my old stuff back!!!). I hope the next ceo has more guts than Tim crook

I'm looking forward to the "Use Snow Leopard look" in the Appearance menu. LOL. Good old days. Now...blandness rules with round corners for fun.
So, even though a slider makes it a user-definable option that you don’t have to take, you don’t want it available for anyone?!
What sense does that make? Why would it bother you if someone else sets it to “ultra clear”?
If producers of operating systems spent as much time sorting out bugs as they do mucking around with the look and adding features that most people will not use, operating systems would be flipping amazing these days.
MacOs is better than Windows, that is for sure, that is why I went for it, but it could be better.
Linix is okay, depending on the distro, when I use linux I go for desktops like Cinnamon or XFCE.
As for Liquid Glass, it is not that bad and the transparency can be reduced, I am used to it now.

If you turn the slider all the way to "tinted" in i(Pad)OS 27 the transparencies aren't far away from how it was in i(Pad)OS 18.

These changes look promising, so I'm optimistic we'll end up with a much better UI.
Minor quibble, but I'm a bit put off by the "Find My" icon. Isn't it supposed to evoke the idea of a radar screen, which is flat? The new one looks like a bird's-eye view of a layer cake with mint frosting. 😛

Thanks to the author for the good summary, both of last year's reaction on MacRumors and the response.
Very smart of them to put that apology segment right at the front of the keynote, addressing practically all the main concerns around Tahoe's appearance, some with genuine backtracking. My attitude was never "Apple's going off the rails" as I observed from others, but certainly was a "well, here we go with the overzealous year before things settle down a little." It's been a long year that way, but happily, the settling-down has been prompter and more decisive than I'd hoped. It's a relief.
