Despite my best efforts, my mind refuses to consider the act of paying $50 for a phone case a sane choice.

My sub-$19 Spigen case (on my Note 8) comes with a nifty slim kickstand, looks great after all these years, allows Qi charges easily and reliably, is thin enough to not add too much mass/bulk to the device, and has saved my device countless times from drops and face-down scratches (it slightly raises the phone off the surface I lay it on).

A car mount that charges would be great. The rest of these don't add anything to the non-mag versions.
Holding out for a MagSafe car holder that wirelessly charges! I’m hugely disappointed that Belkin has said that they’re not making one with a charger.

FYI - both Scoshe and iOttie have Qi charging car mounts -- they're not Magsafe but the iOttie one ought to work with it fine since it's a clamp style mount. Scoshe version uses its own metal plates on the phone or in the case.

I absolutely love leather sleeves but: I really don't like it when the opening is just at the top. I put my iPhone into the sleeve and remove it from it rather often and so I love the sleeves which also have a side opening. Quite bummed that this official one isn't one of these.

I have two of iOttie’s mounts (non-Qi), and I really like them, but I’m looking forward to trying one that uses the MagSafe option. iOttie’s one-touch thing is good, but I’d rather not have to get my hand exactly right to remove, or accidentally trigger the arms before it’s fully in.

The Scosche is magnetic - magnets above and below the coil so no interference. Used to be Speck made a case specifically for the Scosche mount with the matching metal plates built in but I’ve seen nothing recently.

Perhaps one or the other will do a MagSafe version.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have tried a wide variety of car mounts, including vent clips, adhesives, suction cups, and magnets, and not a single one has ever worked for me. The phone just falls right off within minutes. I have decided that it’s better to just let the phone lie flat and use CarPlay.

It’s solving the problem of replacing the Lightning cable. Instead of switching to USB-C, I could see Apple having no charging port at all on future iPhones and just using the MagSafe charger.
Seriously? it is solving the problem where I place my phone poorly on the charger and don't realize it isn't charging or I place it and knock it off in the night before it charges and in the morning I have a phone with little to no charge. That is what it is solving.

MR, you forgot one other accessory. The 20W charging brick. According to your article yesterday, Magsafe doesn't work to it's full potential without it. So much for all those charging bricks iPhone users supposedly have lying around. /s
The MagSafe cable should work with any PD usb c charger that outputs enough power.

Anyone know what the difference is between Otterbox Aneu and Symmetry? They look the same. Thinking Aneu is just some new marketing name for a small range of Symmetry colours... I've always had a Symmetry case in the past

I can’t wait for the leather case. I’ve been using the silicone case but it’s just not as nice.

I have a couple by iOttie, and this is my latest favorite. And when I say “latest favorite,” I mean I bought it in 2016, and I still use it daily! The mount has fallen out of the vent maybe twice, and the phone has always stayed in the mount.

The only downside is that it renders the vent unusable for air or heat, but I still prefer the vent mount over the window or dashboard, only because it’s easier to reach. That’s less of an issue now that I have CarPlay, but still.

There’s a newer version that I’m sure is really good too, but I can’t personally vouch for it.

The only reason I’m looking to get a new one is because I would prefer to get rid of all the wires, now that I have wireless CarPlay. A MagSafe Qi charging mount would be perfect.

Ok, but to be fair, there are probably solutions for those issues that are easier and cheaper than buying a new phone AND a new charging system.

I'm tempted by the wallet since it would mean I'd only have to bring my keys and phone when I go out. Though I'm curious how it looks in real life and not online renders.
I was considering getting the wallet as well thinking I could finally ditch my wallet and carry around my license and a credit card or two. However, there is a video online with MKBHD and it shows how it easily falls off from the phone when placing it into a pocket.

I saw that too. Didn’t need an MKBD video to note that though. It was the first thing I thought during the keynote. Magnets on a wallet are a horrible idea.

Now I finally understand what all the Apple Campuses are for.. I'm going to need college courses to teach me what the hell all these accessories do now since instead of headphones and a lightning cable I have to buy a circular magnetic wallet pocket dongly pop-sockety auto-charging hologram thing.
It’s probably best if you stick with the lightning cable.
