Lightning headphones won't work on a Mac but will work on an iPhone or iPad
USB-C headphones will work on a Mac but won't work on an iPhone or iPad
3.5mm headphones will work on an iPad or Mac, but not an iPhone
But hey, in exchange for carrying around two pairs of headphones or a dongle, my phone is a whopping half millimeter thinner. Thanks Apple!
Yes, it's a mess.
Here in 2017 I use my AirPods for all of them..
Not a mess
Ouch!!!

If you're fast enough, you may be able to come back & edit your post before TOO many people read it!
They have Thunderbolt.
Are you trying to say that it goes against the connector strategy? Or have I misunderstood you?
I'm still right though. I replied to the quote of "Apple made it clear that their connector strategy is Thunderbolt for Mac". The connector is technically USB C type. Thunderbolt protocol uses the USB C connector. Therefore, I see no correction needed.

What connector? Thunderbolt is a protocol that has adapted itself to use other connectors. 1st & 2nd version were using the mini display port connector, now with TB3 it's using the USB C type connector. Maybe I'm just being too anal about it, but if you had said something like "Apple made it clear that their external device protocol strategy is Thunderbolt for Mac" than it wouldn't be an issue. They are using the USB C type connector though.
I know that like, I would imagine, many people on this forum. i never argued against the fact that Thunderbolt 3 uses the USB-C connector.... that is irrelevant. If you're referring to the port on the MacBook Pro (or more commonly, prior Macs with Thunderbolt 1/2), most people would refer to it as a Thunderbolt port, including Apple themselves. And I think you are taking issue with Apples wording, but never mind.I'm still right though. I replied to the quote of "Apple made it clear that their connector strategy is Thunderbolt for Mac". The connector is technically USB C type. Thunderbolt protocol uses the USB C connector. Therefore, I see no correction needed.

Lol, nice "save".
You can pretend whatever you want, in retrospect!
It is painfully obvious by reading your posts that you were unaware that Apple has REALLY committed to ThunderBolt; which in its 3rd iteration, continues the trend of being the fastest external connectivity option available (currently 4x the speed of the next runner up of USB 3.1, gen 2)... they also allowed it to run over a universal bus to make it more accessible.
To err is human, to admit: divine.

No, I'm well aware of their dedication to thunderbolt 3 but you can believe whatever you want. And yes, I'm well aware of all the protocols specs and transfer rates. And please, save your feel good quotes from someone who cares.
