The only real reason I would want three lenses is if it could take some kind of 3D picture or something cool like that

This. There will be a reason we get this weird looking thing, and I'm 90% sure that it's something to do with depth perception of the camera, whether it's to enable Lytro camera style bokeh on any object pre/post image taken. Or something, something, AR. There is going to be a reason for it.

The only thing I can't figure out is, it would definitely look less hideous centrally aligned on the device, so why is it staying in the corner? Beyond "courage", of course.

In the end, I don’t think the general consumer outside a tech site really cares about the ‘thickness’ of the iPhone, when they’re probably more involved with the technology on the phone itself and what it has to offer.

Ironically, from my experience....thickness/thinness is the only thing, nontech people seem to comment on when it comes to phones. I am fine with how thick iPhone is now (though it got thicker on the recent years) but thicker than what it is, I think would be ridiculous on today's standards.

Phones are just becoming the new Razorblades, with the race to add a new lens comparable to adding yet another blade to the head of a Gilette razor.

And why oh why must we also fight for the thinnest casing where possible, i.e. having the bottom right corner thinner than the top left where the cameras are housed - it's just ridiculous. I'd rather have the whole phone the same depth as the camera section of the phone so that it's all flush, rather than have the housing deeper meaning my phone can't lie flat on my desk/table/charger etc. If it means the overall depth of the phone is a couple of mm extra then so be it, fill that space with slightly bigger battery cells.

It’s really ugly like that... hope it’s not the final design. I use a Case but only ultra thin one, actually camera bump is always here even with my case ... so please no bump et all can be perfect (like Nokia 9)

That looks so ugly. What the hell is Apple thinking.

Those mock-ups are horrendous. It can't look like that can it? CAN IT? Someone reassure me immediately!

Based on the rear chassis, and if it's actually legit, it's pretty easy to extrapolate how the camera bump will look based on current design. It's going to look hideous.

Between this chassis and the larger battery rumors, I think we may see a return to a no-bump design, with much less emphasis on the camera unit as a shape on the back of the phone

If Apple wants to be innovative in this category, improve the sensor and lens where you only need one and not multiple. Adding more each year is just...looking unappealing. Keeping the phone too thin make it difficult to improve the lens.

First off, I can’t wait to see what this lens system can do.

Secondly, does anyone know what the other 2 cut outs are? 1 is flash, what could the other one be?

Calm down people, I remember the same shock and outrage when we saw the first iPhone 6 renderings about these antenna lines... in the end it will be fine. Show me ONE ugly Apple product, besides the battery case.

Same here. How that camera LOOKS is going to have absolutely 0 influence on whether I buy the new iPhone or not.

And speaking of appearance, the only part I constantly see of my Xs while is on the table is the bottom with asymmetrical holes and an ugly band on the left.
There are tons of beautiful cases I can chose from, so give me the best possibile phone and forget the look

Why do people immediately assume it's a real leak? These parts are so easy to make, and I don't trust Geskin.

It Just goes to show you that Apple will never be able to appease to everyone, one member wants the iPhone thicker and the other one says the iPhone is thick as it is. In the end, I don’t think the general consumer outside a tech site really cares about the ‘thickness’ of the iPhone, when they’re probably more involved with the technology on the phone itself and what it has to offer.

I would actually take it a step further and say that the majority of people outside a tech site really don't care about how the phone looks, full stop. Apple could make the ugliest phone this side of Neptune but I still wouldn't look at any other phone purely because of the experience I get with iOS. Until the apps I use are improved tenfold on Android, I would never consider switching.

Wow, they're really doing it eh? I really thought it was a joke with those first renders. Presumably they'll give the rest of the camera section the same color glass housing as the rest of the back of the phone.

But speaking as a Apple fan - even if they color it, this is ugly. If they were to raise the rest of the phone back so its even (and get even larger batteries as a consequence) then it'd be fine. But this big 1/4 of a raised phone back doesn't look good.

Looks like the phone has a cancerous tumour that is growing.

As long as it takes better pictures, I don't care. Who stares at the back of their phone anyway?
It’s true you can’t see. But the back of an iPhone is an advertising banner for Apple. Those Apple logos in the back of iPhone, iPad, MacBook draw attention and then they see the ugly camera bump. You know the rest.

Could live with it except the positioning of the flash. Maybe they've got something intuitive lined up for the flash and it wont just be plonked there?
