This design is ugly af. It looks like it has one of those Tile tracker things stuck on it. Yuck. I hope this isn’t the design they choose. Seriously, how many cameras does a cell phone need?

SO disappointed. I put off getting an iPhone X because of the notch. I didn't upgrade last year because they kept the notch. I was hoping for a solution this year to get away from the notch but now Apple will just slap a HUGE beveled square on the back of the iphone?!

That's just so silly looking, especially when I imagine the cases with huge cutouts for the unnecessary camera bulge. I might hold off another year in hopes that 2020 may be the year for a decent looking iphone design.

I miss Steve more and more.

Looks like a tumor on a mobile device...

Especially if they continue with the design mistake of the camera sticking out like many phones now have.
Just wish they made the phone a bit thicker to hide the camera more inside.
THIS^^

I've been saying for years now that I would rather have a thicker phone that eliminates the camera bump than suffer with Apple's obsession with thinness. Plus a few millimeters can be quite handy. Think about it, thicker metal casing for durability, maybe thicker batteries that last longer, etc. However they decided to utilize it, it would only be a good thing

As many as it takes to be able to take non-digitally-zoomed (i.e. cropped) photos at effective depths of field of 24mm - 200mm. So probably 8.

I was kind of apologetic in favor of Apple in the last months. But the time has come to fire the people who are kicking the heritage of Steve Jobs with their feet. This design looks like a malignant tumor. I hope this design will only apply to the successor of the XS Max.

If I’m Apple, I’m trying to get the fingerprints off these fingers and track down the leaker.

An alleged chassis piece belonging to the 2019 iPhone appeared on Chinese social media this morning with markings on the rear of the device that resemble a housing for three camera lenses.

The above image and mockup (below), shared via Weibo and later tweeted by Ben Geskin, tally with rumors that the next-generation iPhone will feature a rear triple-lens camera system in a triangular configuration.

Last week, an image of a similar chassis piece appeared on Slashleaks, although rumors about triple lenses in an iPhone began way back in May 2018. Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in October that he expected the next iPhones to feature triple-lens cameras.

In January, serial mobile leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) released renderings of the supposed iPhone 2019 model, with a similar unusual-looking patch on the rear for three lenses, a flash, and a mic in the triangular arrangement.

The Wall Street Journal has since reported that Apple plans to introduce a triple-lens camera system in at least one of the iPhones coming in 2019. Shortly after that report, Bloomberg seemingly confirmed the rumor, but neither publication mentioned how the lenses would be configured.

A triple-lens rear camera on the next iPhone would allow for a larger field of view, a wider zoom range, improved low light performance, and it would capture more pixels, but the appearance of the lenses and the size of the housing on the leaked images has divided Apple watchers.

If this design is what we're getting (and it's looking increasingly likely now a number of leaks are corroborating it) I hope the camera area is at least more flush with the back of the phone, and preferably completely flush. With larger batteries rumoured and little room to expand inside, I wonder if these phones could be a hair thicker again to achieve this?

History repeating: When first images of the iPhone 4 leaked, everyone was raging about bad design. Nowadays it’s considered one of the best iPhone designs.

I’ll reserve judgement until I see the full device in person.

Looks like Apple just wants people to know that you have a EYEPHONE...with that hideous honeybeeComb rear camera module.

I don’t normally care what the back looks like.

However, that is hideous!
Maybe we'll get lucky. Word is that for two-way wireless charging the phone will need to have a heftier battery. Hopefully that might mean a thicker phone that will allow the cameras to be flush again.

Shame on any journalist or whomever has $1.5k to go to the keynote, see that this is indeed the phone for 2019 and does not shout on the live stream “BOO”.

Everyone’s worried about the design and not what the potential this camera has to offer in terms of technology. The results are what I care about, more than anything, I want to see what this camera Can show us what advancements Apple made.

It's APPLE we're talking about, not Lenovo! Of course we care/worry about the design! Good golly, if it wasn't for Steve's perfectionism and eye for aesthetically pleasing design, Apple would have died off with Michael Spindler and Gil Amelio.

That’s fugly.

I would rather there be a vertical row of cameras, and if one needs to be horizontally further away to be able to calculate objects distance spacially, or provide A.I. vision data ... then just tilt that one camera, but keep it in a row.

HIDEOUS! I know it's a render, but Tim Cook should resign just bc someone thinks he would release something that ugly.

With the rumors of Apple thickening the iPhone to provide a bigger battery, I can only hope that the cameras would be flush and beautifully integrated into the rear glass. I'm frankly surprised that nobody has bothered mocking THAT concept up. Could be very nice, really.
