My series 2 42mm AW always looks like im wearing the 38mm on my wrist so the larger Pro is a welcome for me personally BUT im hoping there is going to be a Hermes version too.
I know the chances are highly unlikely but im keeping my fingers crossed event night.

This is a competitor to the Garmin Enduro 2. The people who want these don't give a flying hoot that it looks big on their wrists. They want the functions. The battery lasts for days while the features go continuously not just periodically and it has solar charging. Serious athletes use Garmin. Long distance racers use Garmin. This must burn Apple's butt. So now they are going for it.
Exactly. My Series 6 44mm watch is tiny compared to most "real" fitness watches I see. I still prefer it to Garmin models I've tried in the past, but this "Pro" model clearly has those targets in mind.

Very confusing graphics, what is the difference between the white and purple fields? The image seems to show 3 different watches but has 5 photos?

Most people here don't realize that Apple is trying to get into the more serious sporting segment where Apple Watch quite sucks I'm afraid. I do like wearing it for sport activities but the battery life is a joke compared to Suunto or Garmin watches. If they can work on that and introduce new sport modes (potentially with less interaction to/from the phone), this could convince many athletes (that might be in Apple ecosystem) to switch. Another thing is the software, though. Apple is doing well on the "healthtech" side of things but import/export of workout, map, measurements data would be needed too.

Much hatred towards a product that you don't have to buy. Many times I have been drooling over features that true adventure/sports watches have. 8 Pro might be couple steps closer to a perfect watch for me.

Ok, I'm still on board, but will the OS be different or are we just going to have a larger font on this massive beast?

I'm just looking forward to see larger Apple Watch series 8 (49mm), 45mm just feel smaller on my wrist.

Go big or go home, I guess. It‘s certainly not for me, but at least the new Watch will be thoroughly differentiated from the existing design/sizes.

Let’s face it, when the Apple Watch was first launched in 2015, the possibilities seemed endless and exciting.

Seven years’ later, other than cellular untethering, there’s been very little significant innovation. Incremental dripfeeds at best.

They can’t decide if this is meant to be a fashion item, fitness tracker, or health monitor. And this larger “rugged Pro” is no different.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

If this new Apple Watch Pro is made out of titanium and it's larger at 49mm... I can see it approaching $1,000.

The current Apple Watch 7 titanium starts at $800 for the 41mm and $850 for the 45mm.

And I'm guessing there will be some other new features specific to the Watch Pro.

At minimum... larger body should mean larger battery. So that's already a nice benefit if true!

:p

Incremental dripfeeds at best 😂 but I still wonder why waste millions/billions dollars for the research and development just for tiny change.

Jobs would have flipped out at them adding an extra button to the Apple Watch. I can see Ive not being happy at this and the recent parting of ways with Love From and Apple might be him distancing himself from what looks like the fall of product design within Apple and the rise of product marketing. Which effectively makes Apple no different from anyone else. Shame...
Who cares about what jobs would have wanted? He’s not here. Time has changed since he was in charge

There’s no “millions/billions dollars” invested in R&D. What was the last thing? Oh yes, SpO2, buy in a dirt cheap sensor, shove it somewhere in the internals, rig it up with existing software and run a batch of sensitivity/calibration tests. Need FDA certification? Forget it, what a pain that was for the 1-lead ECG.
Oh, and talking of clinical insignificance, don’t forget to quietly scaremonger your target lemmings in the middle of a pandemic that an early asymptomatic sign of the virus, is a decreased blood oxygen saturation. Sneaky huh.

This year it’s the body temperature sensor. To aid fertility. Never mind overpopulation and cost of living crisis. Meanwhile, an actual game-changer like non-invasive blood glucose monitoring remains an elusive unicorn as that would actually require innovation and investment.
