An Apple Watch screen would have to be so big to be of any benefit to me that it would not be wearable. Other than as a fashion statement, I see no use for them in my daily life. I don't care about fashion, nor form over function, so no Apple Watch to date has even remotely seemed like a useful item from which I can benefit and or justify purchasing. I don't really see that changing given that they are mostly marketed to people who want to make a fashion statement and/or use it for sporting purposes, neither of which appeals to me. I am not convinced they are accurate enough to be trusted for health monitoring, and there are better options available for that. Health monitoring does not need to be in a fancy smancy "watch" format, BTW, hence the better options, and those better options are designed by scientists rather than Bay Area high tech employees.

While 49mm would be too large for me to wear under normal conditions, I could see wearing it while working out. But, I’m not buying a second and probably more expensive AW just for workouts (~1 hr/day).

Let’s face it, when the Apple Watch was first launched in 2015, the possibilities seemed endless and exciting.

Seven years’ later, other than cellular untethering, there’s been very little significant innovation. Incremental dripfeeds at best.

They can’t decide if this is meant to be a fashion item, fitness tracker, or health monitor. And this larger “rugged Pro” is no different.

Jack of all trades, master of none.
Yep. I’m going to take a serious look at it and then choose. I’m most interested in better software for it, and of course that it looks better than the current ones. I’m leaning toward a Garmin Epix.

I guess it won't be long before the right-size Watch for my wrist gets called the "Watch Mini" and eventually discontinued.
Too soon…

Such a large display DESERVES a much better operating system.
If this Pro watch has the same watchOS as the Series 4 then 👎
Agree One Million Percent. It should just run iOS, and let it run regular applications. And also just let it be a regular phone instead of this weird hybrid tethered to an iPhone BS.

Will happen someday, but will require a shift in current “thinking” of entrenched boomer Apple mgt.

Wow. I honestly didn’t think they’d go that big… if the rumors are true.

I definitely know I won’t be going that big. Guess it’ll be APP2 and 14P only this year.

Check out the prices on high end Garmin watches
Fair point, although those watches really do look gorgeous. Maybe Apple will surprise us, but I don’t expect to be able to say “gorgeous” about an Apple Watch. They’re cool, and extraordinarily functional. I love mine. But gorgeous they are not. So maybe if we get a beautiful Apple Pro, I’ll have to eat my words.

These comments are comical. Reminds me of when the iPad 12.9" was released. People said it looked 'Clownish'.
with post exactly like these.

Thing is, it will sell. Like 'flat hotcakes'

It's for serious sports, as opposed to what you guys do LOL (or me, ok)

I think the larger size would look better on a round watch face.
It’d be way bigger than this then. Whilst we are all used to a round face, like a clock or swiss movement watch, but

our wrist is rectangle-ish. It has straight sides and a long portion (being a wrist and-all). A rectangle watch just sits better in the space.

People whining about the massive size of a 49 mm Watch are comparing it to a round Watch of that size. It doesn’t work like that because a round Watch has bits hanging over the edge.

A round 49 mm Watch has so much more real estate because it’s a bigger Watch than a 49 mm square Watch. It looks bigger because it is.

The Garmin looks nice because of the flat face. It looks like a traditional Swiss/Japanese Movement Watch. I think a flat face on the Apple Watch will also look gorgeous with the right face and complications.

We all love the classic look, like a Breitling or Tag Heuer (drool). But Casio and G-Shock are also classics, and also look fabulous. I reckon Apple will sit closer to those rather than copying the swiss movements with a digital inside like the competition is.

Apple, like Apple do, are creating their own classic design. Samsung and Garmin are copying others, because they don’t know how to develop a look.

Jobs would have flipped out at them adding an extra button to the Apple Watch. I can see Ive not being happy at this and the recent parting of ways with Love From and Apple might be him distancing himself from what looks like the fall of product design within Apple and the rise of product marketing. Which effectively makes Apple no different from anyone else. Shame...
You want to slag off a third button on a Apple Watch before Apple even tells you what they want to do with it? I’m sure Tim Cook is more insightful than you are in that regard.

Next it'll be a 3 button Apple mouse. I'll slag that off too.
If it wasn't for Jobs/Ive minimalism we wouldn't have the modern touch screen smart phone (notice I didn't say iPhone, I mean the entire mobile industry standard UI !!)
