As long as the phones are good I couldn’t give monkey’s what it’s called.

But Apple’s naming structure is a mess and most of us on here said last year if they split the lines and skip ahead to the X what will happen next (this) year.

They just need to get something and stick to it.

Normally I wouldn't complain too much about price. In the end, I almost always opt for top-of-the-line anyway. But for some reason, when I look at the pricing of an iPhone and say it out loud, I always get a little sick about it.

$1000 for a phone. When you figure in the cost of your wireless service, you really have to look at it with some perspective—which most people don't. They just want the latest and greatest and don't think about the cost.

I'm not sure I get the personal value out of it. I love having the 8 Plus, but I can tell you that I'm never buying one again... and it's strictly due to the cost.

I guess I'm at the age where I've simplified my life enough that I can't take advantage of everything the iPhone can do, so I can't justify the cost like I can with a laptop or desktop.

In an ideal world they'd just stick with "iPhone" as they do with "iPad" but I can see where there may be some confusion between the 5.8-inch and 6.1-inch models considering the latter is meant to be the lower priced option yet it has a bigger screen

Is all hope lost for a reasonably sized phone? (4.7" or smaller)
Absolutely not, the 7 and 8 will stay on sale, maybe even the 6s in some markets, it'll be another 2, maybe 3 years before we run out of phones below 5 inch.
The SE is dead though.

There exists a demographic out there whom are the opposite and use their iPhone/iPad far more than laptops or desktops and therefore have different personal values. £999 iPhone X is absolutely not expensive considering how much I use it daily for work and personal items as well as it's strong resell value. I have no problem paying the same for the Xs Plus.

So silly. Just use up the numbers and be all caught up next year.

Iphone 9
Iphone 11
Iphone 11 Plus

next year

Iphone 12C
Iphone 12
Iphone 12 Plus

And then we just use the right numbers going forward and stop this sillyness.
I’m surprised you don’t see how silly your naming scheme is. Yes this iPhone 26c, 34 plus
The x lineup is a fresh start.

So now we're back to the capital S. I can't remember the last time there were so many conflicting rumors over what the new iPhones will be called.

Simpler to just do it this way:
  • iPhone 9
  • iPhone Xs
  • iPhone Xs Plus

I hate the small “s”. It should always be uppercase.

And I think naming them all a variant of “iPhone X” makes sense since they all have Face ID and no bezel. It’s a new generation of iPhone.

Engineering, China.

Marketing, Color.

Technology, “Cheap”.

I see what you mean, but the iPhone is such a powerful device. In your pocket and in such a small form factor it does so many things. My iPhone X is a beast and is the best iPhone I’ve ever had.

Do I want to spend $1K? No, but to me it’s worth it. $50/month for iPhone + AppleCare and $45/month for my unlimited everything plan. I can easily justify that cost.

iPhone is the only piece of technology that I upgrade every year. The annual enhancements of the phone coupled with a new OS makes it necesssry and important for me to be up to date.

Okay but really, why does everybody care about the naming? They are guesses every year and no one can tell for sure how are the going to be called.

You know the "X" is just the roman numeral for 10 right? It's not a new naming scheme. They were just trying to be "cool".

Sorry. Never again. The market has moved in the opposite direction. I am talking about NEW phones to be clear, not ones that have already been released. Many of them will remain for a time.

Watch it turns out there is no 6.1 version and the xc is a 4” iPhone 7 shell with full screen x style. How many would just go for that phone
Apple knows the answer to that question. They won't tell us what it is but they know. I think we can decide the answer by what they do release. If there is sufficient demand for a 4" phone they will have one. I do not believe that is the case.

When the 5C was out, almost everyone that I knew that had one said they bought it because of the price. When I had a 6+ and they still had a 5C, many of them said that they wished they could have a big phone like I did, and pay the lower price. I think on Wednesday, Apple will make that dream come true for them.
