Alleged iOS 18 Design Resource Reveals visionOS-Like Redesign [Updated]

Infinite scrolling is great for content, but it doesn't work as well for visual recall. Personally, I've given up on app organization years ago. I have several apps that I intuitively know where they are, and the rest I just let pile into the app library that I recall by swiping down and searching. I have too many apps to waste time organizing everything.
pagination and infinite scrolling works effectively the same way for visual recall

first two pages of visual recall = top of scroll and one full swipe down on infinite scrolling

anymore than that, it's a bust.

at least with infinite scrolling, you can use widgets as visual bookmarks and have apps nearby those widgets. and finding that widget is just the matter of inertia scrolling. way better than 5 swipes or a very careful swipe on the dots.

App Library is fine for me.

but you're not saying how the App Library fine despite the obvious UX problems I pointed out.

typically someone would respond "Well I disagree, App Library works fine in the way you described because (reason)". You're simply repeating "well it's fine, and your way is tacky" with nothing new to support it.

I'm moving on.

The last redesign of iOS was over a decade ago.

I am totally here for a refresh. Let’s bring a little bit of that skeuomorphism back! We’ve had this boring, basic flat look for way too long.

I still hold some resentment towards everyone who bitched so much about skeuomorphism. I liked it more.
Broooo same. I loved the irl style thingies that old ios had. Like stuff being made of metal, wood, paper, etc. I want that back.

I could not agree more... Flat design is ugly, unintuitive, chaotic and not pleasant for eyes - a washed out UI. Three-dimensional design is intuitive, in a fraction of a second you can find what you want - which takes always longer in a uniform flat monochrome or oversaturated mess with no shadows, with no distinction between the content and the form. The world is colorful, three-dimensional with shadows, buttons and other elements can be easily identified.
Apple, bring skeuomorphism back.

it literally doesnt. They are mutually exclusive. If you think otherwise you have zero clue.
It literally does. I remember the first two pages of iOS as well as top of the scroll view of apps and one swipe down in the list.

You have zero clue on how this works.

No, grandma wouldn’t be using widgets at all. Where did you get that idea?
then why would it be a problem with infinite scrolling if grandma isn't going to bother with widgets on pagination or infinite scrolling? that argument is ridiculous.

Indeed, the specific hypothetical you’ve concocted that is specific to how YOU use your device personally is ridiculous. 🤷‍♂️

I’m not here for arguments, I’m here for discussions. Your use case, from a customer support standpoint, is far and away too complicated for a huge swath of iOS users.

iOS is simple, for some people too simple, but those “power users” fail to recognize that simplicity is why non-tech people are drawn to it.

Personally I’ve had at least two dozen clients eventually switch to an iPhone (grudgingly) because they can actually use it after several failed attempts of navigating Android devices.

Take of that what you will, but I’m not interested in an online argument. That’s why I’m NOT on social media and stick to forums instead.

I think you realized that "grandma" argument kinda backfired and now you're suggesting that using widgets is ridiculous and somehow I'm only one of the few who do use widgets which is a ridiculous take itself

I'm moving on.

Never once did mention the use of widgets as ridiculous, or even alluded to that, but have a nice day.

Back to the UI, I think we’re going to see iOS/iPadOS/macOS drift more towards the VisionUI than the other way around over the next few years.

That doesn’t mean full on translucency in each OS, but instead borrowing elements where it makes sense, like in Control Center for example.
