Why not just a switch? The current page layout stays as a default UI, with the option to default to something else, like the scrollable vertical app list we get when going to App Library and sliding down.

current layout is fairly useless
first 2 pages are memorable, but after that, it's too slow and hard to use, so really you only have real estate of 2 pages. pages 3 and on aren't useful.

infinite scrolling gives you muscle memory of the top 20 rows of apps, then you can fill the rest on the bottom with a mix of widgets. then you can associate apps to the widget to make it memorable. example: I can put black stocks widget on the bottom of the screen. then next to the stocks app, I have investment apps/crypto apps/wallet apps etc..so I can just quickly scroll down, eye for the big black widget, then found my crypto app. easy.

Who is swiping. Most ppl use spotlight lol.

Careful about universalizing your personal preferences.

Apple is good at giving people lots of different ways to do the same thing so that they can find the one that works best for them. You can have pages of apps, folders of apps, pages of folders of apps, you can use the App Library or Spotlight… There are many ways to find, organize and launch apps on iOS.

What’s so different about it? Just like all the other OSes, it‘s basically iOS with changes required for the platform. Every platform has its considerations. It’s not a radically different approach that people seem to think it is.
I didn’t say it was radical, but there’s is a noticeable difference in the focusing on transparency.

If you put VisionOS UI elements next to their iOS counterparts, there is a difference.

I don’t think we’re ever going to see another iOS 7 total revamp, instead you’ll see the UI between all the Apple platforms become more aligned with each other.

if you're using spotlight over swiping to page 5, that literally makes the pagination useless

and you can use spotlight in an infinite setup too. so I have no idea what you're saying.

at least with infinite scrolling, I can throw 5 big widgets on the homescreen and use it comfortably alongside my app icons.

right now I throw a big widget and then there's holes on the page. now I have to figure out what icons to fill it with. annoying af
I don’t mind pagination. Infinite scrolling is tacky. Generally speaking I’m fine with the current design and I don’t need android like infinite scrolling.

If I need a specific app I spotlight. Or I’ll use App Library.

I worked with apple products for years and did a lot of remote tech. Most people use spotlight as it is the most natural way to do so.

App Library is absolutely useless
here's a NICE example:

Ring (security cam app) is in my "Utilities" category
Wyze (another security cam app) is in my "Others" category

Pop quiz: where is Stocks app? Finance, right? NOPE, it's currently in my Information&Reading category

So App Library is absolutely out of the question.

Spotlight? I use it all the time. And you can continue using Spotlight in infinite scrolling.

Your only argument is "it's tacky", and we agree to disagree on that.

That design language just does not make sense on iOS where there's nothing translucent behind the app. I don't think this rumor is true at all. While there might be some design changes, it won't look like visionOS.
There is definitely something behind the camera UI.

how can i tactfully put this? if you look at that low contrast mockup that doesn't change anything but make readability worse and say "can't wait!"... go look in the mirror. you're the problem. you.

Your comment gives me more grace for my assessment than I was originally going to give it. The beautiful contrast in our modern OLEDs gives us such strikingly deep black colors, that switching to greys would feel weak. Hard to gauge the awesomeness of the glass-like without anything in frame in the camera app leak.
That's true. I think it will look a lot better when it's officially released. All of this stuff is still subject to the change. We have a little over 2 months until the first beta is released and many more months until the final version is released.

And you’re comfortable explaining to grandma how to do that?

redesign the home screen

pagination still makes zero sense. just have infinite vertical scroll.
Infinite scrolling is great for content, but it doesn't work as well for visual recall. Personally, I've given up on app organization years ago. I have several apps that I intuitively know where they are, and the rest I just let pile into the app library that I recall by swiping down and searching. I have too many apps to waste time organizing everything.

“We've received information from several sources indicating that the image is fake.”

Yes we know. Why was this article put up exactly?

App Library is fine for me. Infinite scroll is tacky and much suited for a crappy os like android. I only tolerate widgets but even I wished they’d stay where they were.

It’s not an argument. It’s an opinion that you seem bothered to accept.

These changes I hear ppl suggest. I’m like at this point just get a lagdroid instead of trying to turn iOS into it.
