I hope that this isn't the real iPad 5 design. The mini is fine with a small bezel because it is small and light, but you need some space to hold onto the big iPad. I foresee much more inadvertent pinch-zooming with this design.

The ipad mini allows normal functionality while resting ones thumb on the screen. It can distinguish a resting thumb from a pointing finger.

Give it a try. However it only works with the mini at the moment, but I suspect Apple will add this hidden gem to the new thinner bezelled ipad 5

I adjusted the image so that the size of the home button and corner radiuses match those of an iPad / iPad mini.

The screen does turn out the be exactly 9.7" after.

Very disappointed in iOS 7. It looks a bit too 'handy' to me....... ;)

Love this comment...

I think it's expected to be significantly lighter. Notice too that the side bezel isn't as thin as the iPad Mini.

Lighter yes, I'm pretty sure it will be. Significantly lighter? I doubt it. A large part of the weight of the retina iPad is the batteries required to power that screen for any decent length of time. Unless there's a significant breakthrough in battery technology between now and launch, I think Apple are limited to just trimming small things here and there. They could of course opt to use smaller batteries and reduce their lifespan per charge.

We should go to a format that has the Front Page, Page 2 and then Digitimes - in that order. They're a joke. Gruber and some of the supply analysts at least have a record better than aggregated every rumor and averaging it.

Personally I would have liked to have seen the iPad foot print stay the same size, but rather reducing the sides etc to be more streamlined with the display (and thus reducing the footprint). I would have hoped the actual display size increased instead leading to the same size pad as we have today, but with a larger screen.

It's going to need to be much lighter for that thinner bezel to make it comfortable to hold. Mini is perfect because how light it is.

Was hoping they'd increase the screen size to 10.1", but I like the new iPad mini like design.

CSI Cupertino are analysing these photos as we speak. Digitise, zoom, press the magical "Enhance" button, and voila! You have the reflection of the leaker's face.

I can't wait until they do the screen lamination with the iPad like they do with the iPhone and iMac. Adds a lot to the screen.

If genuine, by looking at similar part leaks on the ipad mini we are looking at an unveiling within a month from now. This makes sense, earnings call 23., day after we get a date for a special event in early may with iPad 5 and possibly spec bumps on other stuff. After that, wwdc in June with iPhone 5s and ios 7, and hopefully Mac Pro?

Btw, I don't believe in a Retina iPad mini (although I would love to have one). Seems wishful thinking, it makes perfect sense to have a lighter, smaller Retina full size iPad, flanked by a non-Retina Mini. Same for Retina Air, not gonna happen, at least not this year.

This would leave room for unveiling a completely new product category in the fall, iWatch, TV, whatever. But I'd say that iPad 5 within a month from now is reasonable, as well as neeedes. In my view, the Mini makes the iPad 4 look old, no way they will wait till the fall to redesign.

thank god for that, i was afraid we're going to see those "finger condoms" again like we did with the leaked iphone 5 front panel

One has to ask oneself a question.

Would apple really release a replacement to the 128 gig ipad just 3 to 4 months after it was released? This coming after a huge stink was made after a 7 month gap to the previous release last fall.

Seems sort of unintelligent. Especially since one might suppose a 128 gig product might more likely be purchased by someone who's of "enthusiast" stature. Piss off your core base and you might have a problem.

That and we were seeing these kind of iphone 5 parts way in advance of it's launch. They have to produce millions and millons of these things.

That said, anything is possible. The release of the 128 and lack of movement on the igzo supply chain has me unmoved for a spring release though.

Nice, this is what I've been wanting. If there are this many parts leaking out, it will probably debut sooner rather than later. iPad 3 was released in April....

I thought I was the only one waiting for an iPad refresh April/May...shouldnt have sold my 3rd Gen in Feb :(

Great points and makes sense...hope its true and we do see a new iPad within the next couple months

Here's a normal iPad too.

I'm not that much of a whiz at photoshop (you can see the sizes aren't perfect and I think the glass is at an angle in the rumor photo but there you go...)

Still using a round home button? Where's the innovation, Apple?

But seriously-- this looks like it could be the perfect form factor, which is what I was previously saying about the Mini. But a slightly narrower iPad would be a great combination of performance (the next-gen chip oughta seriously kick butt) and a more svelte package.

But it probably means the next-gen Mini won't have a retina display.

They used new battery technology in the Mini, which is why they managed to get it so thin.
