Here's a normal iPad too.

I'm not that much of a whiz at photoshop (you can see the sizes aren't perfect and I think the glass is at an angle in the rumor photo but there you go...)

Your iPad on the right is actually too small, but that's partly my fault because the ratio of my iPad 5 is wrong. It's too narrow.

I adjusted it to the correct height but its width was wrong, since the original picture was at an angle like you noticed.

Here's with the correct sizes and ratios:

Lighter yes, I'm pretty sure it will be. Significantly lighter? I doubt it. A large part of the weight of the retina iPad is the batteries required to power that screen for any decent length of time. Unless there's a significant breakthrough in battery technology between now and launch, I think Apple are limited to just trimming small things here and there. They could of course opt to use smaller batteries and reduce their lifespan per charge.

The reason the screen consumes so much it´s is efficiency in letting pass light from the back-light to the user, and the ipad 3/4 screen sucks in that area consuming around 5-7w for is meager 300nits.

By now apple should have made quite some advances in that area, just look how efficient is the iphone 5 screen, even without the igzo stuff.
The advances in led efficiency and screen technology should allow apple to cut is power by half easily, and also finally remove that heat generated by the leds, which was quite annoying.

This changes everything again! :D Seriously though I am more excited to see what they do with iOS considering the recent rumors of it being overhauled.

The benzel on my iPad 3 is already too narrow. I constantly touch part of the screen while manipulating it, causing it to do unintended things. Making it even narrower will only make this worse. :(

I can see it now... "We've taken what we've learned from the RMBP and the magical new iMac and put it into the iPad. The New New iPad now features a thinner laminated screen process that allows for over 40% better color saturation and better viewing angles."-Tim

Is this the beginning of a flurry of leaks, telling us pretty much everything about the next iPad?

Bezel Blah!

Give me a Renaissance Retro bezel!

I wonder if the resizing in the bezels means I can throw my $80 smart cover in the garbage...

Never understood why the bezel was so large to begin with. When I hold my iPad, half my thumb is on the glass. That's 1cm or even less.

Planned obsolescence. You didn't expect that?

Is this "planned obsolescence"? I mean, surely the current smart cover is designed to work with the current iPad. In the same way that a new phone that's a new shape needs a new case, isn't this merely a natural consequence of progress?

Nice, this is what I've been wanting. If there are this many parts leaking out, it will probably debut sooner rather than later. iPad 3 was released in April....

Pretty Sure the iPad 3 was released in March of 2012. Well, in America and a few other countries anyway... and really when it comes to guessing Apple release dates, only America is relevant.

And how do I know that this is actually not an iPad mini in the hands of a dwarf??

That was my first thought. After all MR had a sketch done to show what it might look like and then there's a photo showing their exact idea. Nothing suspect about that.

And even if it is legit how do know that it's not a prototype that was rejected. After all, likely release time is Sept so there's still time to not have a locked model given that Apple doesn't start warehousing months and months in advance.

Sources appear to be split on when the fifth-generation iPad will make its debut, with some having suggested that Apple could hold an event as early as this month if the device is ready, while others have claimed that Apple is shooting for an October release. Just yesterday, Digitimes claimed that Apple is planning to ramp up production for the new iPad in the July/August timeframe.

"Now you're just making up months"
