Honestly... what on earth would a Phone need anymore?
Sometimes, these yearly updates, are so forced.

I have an 11 Pro Max - does everything I need it to do - It's a phone.
Will probably update to 14 (not sure yet) or the next 15, as long as it works there's no reason to spend money.

I bet most of the people use the phone to talk, do social media and take pictures most of the time.
Of course there are those doing professional videos but even to this day, most of the consumers of those videos barely have a high resolution screen.

Wasn't it that Apple said the device shouldn't stand in the way of the user?- what more tech specs one needs in this context besides small tweaks.....

Maybe you should consider an android device if it bothers you that badly. I mean, it’s merely an aesthetic design that’s not even confirmed yet.
I’m happy with my notch, I’m sitting this one out, most likely the one after that as well.

Hopefully my 8” foldable iPhone will be out by then.

It’s looking more and more likely that we’ll be getting the turd hole this year.

Ross young has a 100% track record.

It’s been said many times, I don’t think the iPhone needs an annual update. I would say every 18 months is more than appropriate, because it’s matured so well over the years. If you look at Apple’s marketing, they really only taught the camera as the main selling point, as consumers just aren’t interested in features like Pro-Motion or OLED panels.

But given it is one of their main forms of revenue, it’s just something I don’t see them ever doing, especially when they’re probably already working on the 2023 iPhone, given the 2022 iPhone is probably been finalized at this point.

Looks like the 13 pro notch as expected is moving to the 14.

Dont know why people are shocked, this is a bigger change than 12 to 13 As it also has a new frame Design based on iPhone 4.

I imagine the 14 Pro will look like the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple stick to a 3 year cycle, and considering supply line issues across the world, and now a lack of Neon even Apple will have to think about which of its CPU's are the most important in its range. I always thought the 14 would be a slightly tuned 13 with the latest Qualcomm modem which to myself is of no consequence over the one in my current iPhone and more price cutting features on the inside I would assume too.

I highly doubt people could tell the difference between a 13 and a 12 in a blind day to day use except the 13 Pros have better battery life, the phones are so fast now updating each year for the marketing hype of "the latest and greatest" is purely a personal choice not a necessity and buying into the marketing gets you not much new for your money these days anyway. The phone in your hand in truth is just as good now as the last three iPhones in all honesty maybe more. Apple are a company that knows that there is not much more with curent tech you can do with a rectangle of glass and whatever metal they use and when it comes to iPhones the OS needs more work than the hardware I feel. We are rapidly hitting a wall of diminishing returns when buying a new phone each year, where new features tend to be things many people switch off sometimes, as it just feels like they were added to make the phone seem different rather than be useful.

Well that's just my view, and with the war in Ukraine, the semiconductor shortage on going and now a shortage of Neon its hardly surprising the phones may look the same, I mean Apple changed the notch last year, probably for cost so why change it to a pill shape the following year for certain handsets at a greater cost in fabrication, that's not how Apple operates and they may be in a position where they have to look at what SoC's are more important to produce for there line of new hardware as well, due to shortages and issues in supply across the globe.

What’s a pathetic phone… it’s basically a rebranded iPhone 13. Not even a "S” cycle.

The look of the phone is literally the least relevant bit Apple could change, yet so many people make how different they find the new phone versus the old one mainly about that. I would call that pathetic.

So they’re not changing the chassis.

However:

They’re going to make the 14 plus.
Which is a big deal.

This means you get the screen size of the 13 pro (minus pro motion, I’m sure) for (likely) way less money.

?This reason alone is why *lots* of people will buy the plus.

I expect also that they’ll use the A15s from the pros with one extra graphics core (A15X?) on the plus at least. So that’s kinda an upgrade.

And I imagine that they’ll use the two back cameras from the 13 Pro too (minus LIDAR & night portrait mode) again, on the plus at least.

If they throw in a higher res selfie camera that’s a big big deal for many people (and if they do, I bet it’s only going to be on the plus).

So if the above is kinda right:

The regular 14, it’s not really worth the upgrade from either the 12 or 13. I bet it’ll see hardly any changes to fit into the price point of the 13 mini today.

The plus however… ?

I miss the "Plus" name, doesn't really work with the Pro name though, iPhone 14 Pro Plus... 🤦‍♂️
Agree, the 6S Plus was a animal of a phone, people are still using till now.

Pro max does sound fancier when it comes to marketing these devices.

Exactly. It's worse than the ipad mini 3. At least that one got TouchID compared to ipad mini 2. But looks like the iPhone 14 only differs than the iPhone 13 in name only. Embarrassing.

With the 14 rumored to have the A15, it's literally just the same as the iPhone 13.

Between this and the iPhone SE now having an A15 chip, there’s no chance at all that the non-Pro iPhone 14s keep the same old chipset.

If Apple ever does that, it will be in a major update year when reasons to cost-save are high and last year’s chip will be more than enough.

Just like you were keeping your 12 last year. "No reason to upgrade". You know you'll be first in line and jamming all the threads with your posts about your excitement over the new iPhone.

So no design change, no new SoC why call it new then? this is the current iphone 13

Can't wait to hear how Timmy & Co are going to spin this one to make people want to upgrade, pretty much yawnsville if the rumors are to believed ?

The Best iPhone EVER. We are enriching people's lives. We want to leave the world better than we found it. We’re proud of our progress.

This stupid camera bump sucks. I would gladly take the extra weight and space to make the back smooth/flat again. It just makes the wireless charging so annoying to deal with.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will be my last iPhone for the time being. As long as Apple clings so pathetically to the current design and the outdated/ugly operating system interface, I won't get a new iPhone in the house!

Still on the iPhone 11 Pro here. It's nice to save a bit of money as the rapid progression of iPhone 1 through 5 has slowed down to a crawl.

It'll be interesting if apple ever offer a foldable iPhone or something genuinely different.
