this makes it look like the button will be capacitive rather than physical which may be why we haven't seen any home button leaks. The silver ring then may just be to outline the position of the sensor area

That's what I really hope for.

I wonder if we'll see updated Apple apps today (iTunes U, Find my Friends. Podcasts etc.)?

Take your blinders off,Apple has been copying for years(stealing)and people have been buying into their alleged innovations. Remember the truth about slide to unlock?

Good artists copy, great artists steal. We get it. Apple didnt invent finger print technology.

But here is the thing with all of Apple's innovations. Yes, they've all been done before but have all failed. If it was successful initially it would be the norm now. How many phones on the market have fingerprint technology? ZERO. This is where apple shines. They take failed tech and make it successful. Deal with it. You can't blame apple for making things work. Blame the original inventor for not making it work before releasing it.

Maybe the ring will be the same color as the chamfers so it won't stick out like a sore thumb on the black and gold models. We'll see today.

This would be very nice...but I hope there isn't a gap that dirt and whatnot gets stuck in like every other iOS device - especially white!

What happened to stories or photos being removed at Apple's request? That used to happen fairly often if something was legit or too close for comfort. Has Apple given up on this strategy — either because they realized that nothing really disappears from the intertubes, or because that was usually a good sign that something wasn't faked?

True. So when Samsung and HTC get fingerprint scanners, then the world will start to listen.

Samsung waiting to see how Apple does it first, what a surprise. The chromed plastic ring on their home button is going to be so classy looking.

Turn it off.....?

Just an opinion here, but you can turn on & off the pass code on an iPhone, even choose to have a simple 4 digit number or a long one. I'm only speculating but having been using iOS 7 since its beta release and it still has the pass code feature with the ability to turn on or off using a "simple" code or a long code. Makes me believe that there will be a "on" or "off" pass code and or finger print "ID Scanner".
My guess is that it would be just another choice for security when you choose to lock your phone.

I myself think it will be cool feature and I don't care who had it first, Apple will be the first to make it work properly and easy. If LG was the first or whoever else has done it must not have done it so good, or I'm sure we'd all no more about it.

I'm looking forward to ordering my new iPhone(s).:apple::cool:

Fingerprint technology is not new. Successful fingerprint technology would be. And I suspect Apple will make it happen.

I could explain you that Apple does not invent things, but refine them for people to start really using it. But I guess you should know that.

Indeed. Though, I think it's the other way round. Apple invented the first touch screen smart phone, and Samsung/HTC refined it.

Can't wait to hear the preposterous name Samsung decides to call this feature in their next smartphone...

Samsung Smart Square Finger Scanner Touch Whiz Galaxy Nebula Technology, probably.

Question: How do you know you've arrived?

Answer: People are mentioning you on the eve of your competitors event.

It's an Apple event. Focus

why doesnt the picture at post 1 show the 3,5mm connector? it does show the lightning connector....
i have the feeling this one's made up.

The Samsung GS4 already has a chromed plastic ring around the home button. Shame Apple are copying that too.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who see that! It seems as if there are more leaks about the 5S and 5C then anything other Apple product! Oh well... only so many eyes can watch so many people I guess...

Again a case of not knowing how the world works. Sorry if this sounds pedantic, but in a supply chain as complicated as the iPhone's with the volumes that are produced it is impossible to keep everything a secret. You can bet that Apple's processes in terms of confidentiality and security are among the most advanced in the industry, but something is bound to leak.

Compare this to the lower volume products and you see a different pattern. The Mac Pro came out of nothing earlier this year, because the supply chain is smaller and it hasn't hit peak production year.

And finally, it might be worth thinking not about what you DO know, but what you DON'T know. There is no way of knowing about possible new products being introduced that we haven't heard of yet.

So, the conclusion is that you have no idea of what is being done to keep all these things secret, so it is also not very advisable to make assumptions on the effectiveness of Apple on these things.

I love how the Samsung trolls here have the same old playbook.

Apple creates something new on a smartphone - oh, it's been done 10 years ago by some company. Irregardless that even though the 'technology' has the same name, it's completely different.

Samsung does something really inane like increases the size of their smartphone - innovation!

Then if these samsung fans are 'scared' of a technology that they don't have, like a fingerprint sensor, they immediately go to the 'worst case scenario' like someone cutting your fingers off. Meanwhile, their own technology that is so beloved, NFC, completely dismiss the 'worst case scenario' where someone steals all your money.

This is too much like politics. There will be fingerprint scanners on every device we have in 5 years, because of Apple's lead, with NFC nowhere to be seen, but somehow, this will be spun that Apple was not an innovator because more Android devices with fingerprint scanners exist. Sheesh.

I'm not sure what all the "whoop-dee-do" over the fingerprint sensor is all about. To me, it just seems to add another bit of fragile technology to an already fragile piece of electronics.

The UK newspaper I was reading this morning is claiming the iPhone 5C will start at £349 unsubsidised and the iPhone 5S will start at £529 unsubsidised. Presumably they must have sources within the mobile phone industry here.

grand, now can we please have the unlocked version in under 3 months?
thanks.

This is exactly what I'm wondering as well. I'm also hoping that they release 1 model that can work with all the frequencies...AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. That would really change things up and maybe spur better competition and prices and features being able to go to ANY carrier at ANY time.
