Indeed. Though, I think it's the other way round. Apple invented the first touch screen smart phone, and Samsung/HTC etc. refined it.
Yeah, it's incredibly boring trying to keep what the NSA is doing in the public eye.
Taking failed technology and making it succeed isn't a problem, paying the rightful owners seems to be the problem. Suing people for technology/ideas you've stolen is pure hypocrisy .Good artists copy, great artists steal. We get it. Apple didnt invent finger print technology.
But here is the thing with all of Apple's innovations. Yes, they've all been done before but have all failed. If it was successful initially it would be the norm now. How many phones on the market have fingerprint technology? ZERO. This is where apple shines. They take failed tech and make it successful. Deal with it. You can't blame apple for making things work. Blame the original inventor for not making it work before releasing it.
If you have to click and hold to use the sensor, how do you invoke Siri from the lockscreen?

^ This. Wondering the same thing, myself.
I think this is fake. Looking at my old iPhone documentation, I believe this is just an elaborate mockup someone made, just like the fake box. Why no background picture you guys wonder? White for white! Nah, I don't think so... It would have the iconic iOS 7 pic we've all been seeing since June.
You'd hold your thumb on the button, without pressing, to initiate the sensor.
You'd press and hold the button for Siri.
Samsung does something really inane like increases the size of their smartphone - innovation!
with NFC nowhere to be seen, but somehow, this will be spun that Apple was not an innovator because more Android devices with fingerprint scanners exist. Sheesh.
Seriously, so what? If they want to trawl through my text messages from my girlfriend telling me to get milk on the way home from work and emails from Amazon, I'm fine with that.
I've nothing to hide, so why should I care?
Looks a bit Samsung-y to be honest. The silver ring around the home button looks really slick on the white iPhone!![]()
this makes it look like the button will be capacitive rather than physical which may be why we haven't seen any home button leaks. The silver ring then may just be to outline the position of the sensor area
On an aside note, I'm tired of hearing my fellow Americans say that Apple won't add a feature because it's not big in the US. Get off your high horse, America is not the only country that exists on this planet, and Apple knows that.
Some people are pretty obsessed with the NSA. These comments are awfully boring

Good try, but this says only that NFC-EQUIPPED phones are sold. It says nothing about the NFC transactions. That's something entirely different.

You'd press and hold the button for Siri.
Or maybe swipe and hold finger on sensor
Whatever helps you sleep at night.America is not the only country that exists.
It's just the only one that matters.
NFC payments are massive outside the USA.
