NSA badly needs your fingerprints in addition to everything else -

NSA Has Full "Back Door" Access To iPhone, BlackBerry And Android Smartphones, Documents Reveal

The United States' National Security Agency intelligence-gathering operation is capable of accessing user data from smart phones from all leading manufacturers. Top secret NSA documents that SPIEGEL has seen explicitly note that the NSA can tap into such information on Apple iPhones, BlackBerry devices and Google's Android mobile operating system.

The documents state that it is possible for the NSA to tap most sensitive data held on these smart phones, including contact lists, SMS traffic, notes and location information about where a user has been.

In the internal documents, experts boast about successful access to iPhone data in instances where the NSA is able to infiltrate the computer a person uses to sync their iPhone. Mini-programs, so-called "scripts," then enable additional access to at least 38 iPhone features.

That report references iOS 3 and 4 only, and refers to PHYSICAL access to the device. Once someone like the NSA has your phone, the jig is pretty much up. That ain't new, baby. We don't really know how much stronger iOS 5, 6 and 7 are, I imagine there have been steady improvements.

Its a photograph. its an illusion.

Really looking forward to the new phone and iOS7. The only tough part will be which color. If the slate/graphite one does come out, I may have to lean that way.

Design patents are not absolute in terms of their longevity. They do expire based on their date of issue. Furthermore, a patent on a base concept will not prevent another company from applying for a patent on improvements to the base concept. If the improvement is significant enough, then many times, one patent holder cannot operate without the other, and lawsuits can arise.

How is the legal protection of an improvement of a base patent theft or hypocrisy?
Let's cut through the mumbo jumbo, taking someone's ip without the proper payment of said royalties is theft. To prove my point Apple just got caught stealing that clock design last year, their was no patent applied for was it ?

Will iPhones be available for pre-order today?

Now that would be a problem for me, will be at work later. I will have to keep reading the Macrumors tweets, and have my credit card within reach. And at the same time I have to pretend to be working.
Very difficult times indeed ;)

if you've gotten a US passport in the past 8 years, the NSA already has your fingerprint.

i'm a privacy nerd, but fingerprints by themselves means as much as a social security number: it's arbitrary until you use it for important matters... meaning, as long as you don't use iCloud, you have an "out".

I've gotten a US passport in the past 8 years and didn't have to give them my fingerprints.

Ring around home button

Something I always wanted as a feature in the iPhone

some type of ambient light to signal a missed call, notification

would just blow me away if that ring would light up for those reasons...i would absolutely be blown away..(please apple..please..):):)

Yahoo Finance claims people have "device exhaustion" and it spells trouble for Apple. Funny we didn't hear about this "exhaustion" when the One, Galaxy S4, Nexus 7 and Note 3 were announced.

I'm pretty sure it's link bait. But I'm also pretty sure that device exhaustion wouldn't take place immediately - that it happens over time. And given the amount of new phones that have hit the market in the past few months - it's not an invalid statement to make - and why it might not have appeared earlier.

Yep, Samsung factories are built in the caribbean, where workers receive complimentary margaritas every 15 minutes.

Yep, Apple is doomed. Samsung, which cannot even make an operative system and has to get the code from Google is the future.

Nope, I don't care about the NSA. Im not a terrorist or a thief. And at my company, all secret info is sent encrypted.

To be honest, you are such a hater and radical, that I would ask you to refrain to answer my messages. As Churchill said, a radical is that who never changes his mind and will never change the topic. So get a friend from haterland, where you belong. Radicals like you give me the creeps.

I was going to make the point that those that think differently are commonly referred to as "haters" or "trolls" but you have illustrated it perfectly.

Samsung is exactly the same as Apple in how they conduct their business. That is my point. They both use underhand practices and they both only care about the bottom line.

Apple is unique with their profit margins. They exploit brandtards and truly rip off the consumer. The consumer does not benefit from over priced products, unrealistic patents and legal proceedings against other companies. They are a slave to a monopoly.

I think Apple should use E.T. In their ad campaign for the 5S.

"Never has it been easier for E.T. to phone home."

Touch ID: E.T.

Ok I'll bite. How exactly is it last years model?

Until it is officially announced, we don't know for sure about the "new" features, but given the leaks and speculation, the 5S is just a faster 5 with the addition of a fingerprint scanner and possibly in a color other than black or white. Is there something else BIG that it's supposed to have that the 5 doesn't have?

If Dell, for instance, took a 2012 model Desktop PC and upped the CPU and graphics to a faster one, and added a camera card reader, and offered a couple of color options, then had a big celebration about the NEW 2013 model, wouldn't we all just yawn? Same thing. We all do the same thing now, when you buy a PC online.

That's all bigdaddy means, is that the 5S isn't technologically different than the 5 (like the 4S vs the 4), but the next number generation WILL be different and "New" (like 4 vs 5).
