Well, no. I think the point is that we'll soon see other phone companies (especially Samsung) implement a fingerprint scanner in the *exact* same way as Apple, i.e.: embedded in the home button for unlocking the device.
To put it another way, the problem with previous fingerprint scanners was that they were an add-on. You (a) had to actively swipe, rather than just touch, and (b) locate an explicit part of the phone, rather than a button you already use all the time. These two things are what will make Touch ID different and successful, and also why it will be totally valid to label other companies as copycats when they do the same thing.
(Another thing about Apple's implementation will be Siri integration I imagine. There's currently some level of tension around enabling Siri to do slightly sensitive things such as retrieve personal contact details etc. That will disappear once Siri and Touch ID authentication are tied together via the home button )

The fingerprint scanner isn't a problem until you use it for something important and then it's compromised.
And the NSA is compromising everything they can, and are secretly working with companies who use encryption products to compromise them. So I'd say it's risky to tie your unchangeable biometrics to technology that is quite possibly broken out of the gate.

For anyone complaining or worried about the "dangers" of the fingerprint sensor that will grab your fingerprint or data, you're dumb. If you want to worry about your data, then your iPhone has much more worthy stuff you need to worry about first.
Your iPhone has 2 cameras that you never know when they'll take a photo, 3 microphones that could be listening to you at any moment, web browsing apps that could grab all your web history and passwords and upload it to some server, chatting apps like What'sApp or Facebook Messenger or Snapchat that will take all your private conversations between you and your friends including all pictures, videos, and soundclips are all already uploaded to their cloud servers.
So trust me, a fingerprint scanner is the least of your worries.

Who cares? It looks clean on the box, and can be changed in the first 23 seconds of ownership. Anyone petty enough to bitch about this has some serious problems.

- Doesn't work with gloves.
- Doesn't work if you chew off your finger tips in jail.
- Doesn't work if you burn your fingers off in a fire.
- Doesn't work if you don't have fingers.
- Doesn't work if you are a robot.
- Doesn't work if you have food on them nuggets.
- Doesn't work if you your hands are stuck in the toilet and you need to dial for help with your nose. Lot's of lawsuits going to come out of this one.
- Doesn't work with any rugged case made by Griffen. Fail.
