The iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display both have a "cut-out" Apple logo on the back—it's no longer polished into the aluminum, but rather a metal inlet that goes into that gap. I figured that it must be the same for the iPhone—unless there's going to be a sensor there using it as a radio-transparent window of some kind.

Wow, stunning, a piece of metal covered in green plastic...

Come on MacRumors, you can do a lot better then that surely? You exposed the complete ipod Nano 3rd gen press shots way before it's release, a video of a guy showing the entire casing of the iPhone 5, and now this.....?

Nice :) and a nice difference to the pathetic "Tim: doubling down bla bla yada whatever" by some...

This.

And as for the flash cutout, I think Apple is going to use one larger and thus brighter LED that will be able to produce the same affect as the true tone flash.

Man, If thats accurate, its gonna be one frickin' ugly looking iPhone. Cases are a wonderful thing!! :)

for every iteration of the iphone i've seen someone write this...and then after it comes out, out of a sudden, it looks so great and the cycle starts again...

I kinda dig the 5S design more. just get rid of the thick bezels and make it larger. Ah well I'll wait to see the real thing. Definitely not seeing anything to bring me back from my nexus 5 yet.

That might be true. But this is really bad. Looks like a cheap Chinese case on the phone when there is none!

Is it really gonna have those thick antenna breaks ? Yikes .

Maybe you can come up with a better way of utilizing an all aluminum back. There has to be a break somewhere for the antennae. HTC one has them and it is a beautiful phone. This iPhone will be no different.

Nice to see Apple simply doing iterations on design rather then, I don't know, do something risky, innovative and interesting like everyone else?!?!??

Absolutely ugly and plain, looks like a toy, nothing will beat the iPhone 4 design and the build up that led up to it. Apple straight up got lazy and has no new unique ideas left in the tank, mailing this in for the sheeple who will buy it no matter what. Why bother when everyone will buy it.

Before you condemn Apple over a fake mock-up of a fake iPhone design, understand that it is a fake mock-up of a fake iPhone design.

The reason no iPhone parts have leaked yet is because Apple's not yet making the new iPhone!

WWDC Hardware Announcements:

2003 - PowerMac G5
2004 - Cinema Displays
2005 - Transition to x86
2006 - Mac Pro; Xserve
2007 - iPhone; various iPods
2008 - iPhone 3G
2009 - iPhone 3GS; Spec updates to Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, and Macbook Air
2010 - iPhone 4
2011 - no significant hardware
2012 - Macbook Pro with Retina; spec updates for the rest of the Macbook line
2013 - New Mac Pro; Airport Extreme; Time Capsule; other spec updates

Can we please put this developer-only nonsense to rest now? WWDC Keynote is not exclusive to developer announcements only. WWDC Keynotes almost always have some major hardware announcement.

There's a good reason why they stopped doing iPhones at WWDC. Apple wants to release their most popular product right before the holiday season. Early June doesn't sell as well, so if they announce any hardware at all, it's generally stuff for the back-to-school crowd, or the kind of hardware the Pros use to do their work.

I thought it was a logo cutout as well, but the more I look the more I think it's just an odd light glare on the plastic causing it to look that way (with the logo being black).

edit: looking again, the angle of the shadows are consistent with the shadows being cast around the edges of the phone and do seem consistent with a cutout, and plus the shadows inside the "cutout" are consistent with the shape of the Apple logo as well. Really weird. Perhaps there will be a glowing Apple logo like on Macbooks?

Yeah I hope that's what it's for.. They could use a color changing LED for notifications and such, that'd be a pretty nice unique feature.

LiquidMetal

Looks like the next iPhone would use LiquidMetal as the chassis of the iPhone 6.

So, it could be thinner than iPhone 5S while increasing inner space for bigger battery.

The new iPhone design is cool and utilitarian in it's simplicity of design. But I would say it is the least elegant iPhone after the 2nd gen plastic models. It's cool but not in sexy way.

For me the very first one and the iPhone 4 are the nicest design wise. The iPhone 5 is very elegant too.

Cool, put the finger print sensor and home button in the Apple logo on the back and make the entire front display. Cover the Apple logo with sapphire.

I seriously hope those edge antenna joints, or what the heck they are, at the top and bottom won´t be in the final phone...It makes it look really amateurish and put together by pieces not belonging together...even if they are seamless in color . I´m usually not concerned with the tiny design decision of the next iphone, but if this comes true, someone must have hit Jony Ive really hard the head.

So it's green... and it's got a slice in it? I'm really confused as to what I'm looking at.

Space Gray, Swamp Green.

Looks like a thin case on a dummy. If it was a film then it shouldn't have a camera and flash cutout like that. You can see the cutout for the side volume buttons too.

Might try reading the article rather than just looking at the shiny pictures.
