That HTC One M8 is looking better and better.

I'm not convinced these Geekbench scores are real, but if so, Apple will lose more market share at an accelerated pace. This is starting to feel like the 90s when Microsoft was ascendent - except unlike Windows, Android actually is pretty damn good when the OEMs don't lard it up.

Does not compute. Those scores are better than the m8 and the g3 geekbench.

Whether or not they're true is another story.

Nope... The real reason why Android is such a memory, CPU and battery hog is only to a small part because Google lacks control of the platform, just look at how even Google's own Nexus devices suffer from issues like horrid battery life on the Nexus 5. Instead the main reason is a number of design choices they made early on thinking that x86 and other non-ARM chips may become a thing in smartphones.

Primary among these early design misses is the heavy use of Java in parts like the UI. The reason why Java is an issue is that it's an interpreted language that is run in a virtual machine to allow the same piece of code to run on a large amount of device and software configurations. What this does is basically add an extra abstraction layer between the program and the hardware.

Java developers often like to talk about this as "Compile once - Run everywhere". People who work with non-interpreted languages (like C and it's derivatives) twist it slightly so it becomes "Compile once - Debug everywhere" as different software and hardware configurations tend to exhibit unique problems when running the same Java code.

The use of Java may have been a good idea if x86 or MIPS had become a thing in tablets and smartphones, but unfortunately for Google it's just been a headache they've been trying to fix since the early days of Android. In 2.2 they introduced a JIT (Just-In-Time) compiler that tries to translate the program into actual native machine code (which is what all iOS programs are by default) as it runs and in 4.4 they introduced ART (Android RunTime) that translates programs into native machine code when they're installed.

Hardware vendor specific stuff on the other hand is a double edged sword. Some vendors do genuinely nice improvements they often unfortunately keep to themselves, while others build insanely memory hungry crap that only worsen the problems android already has (MotoBlur and TochWiz spring to mind immediately). However one problem all Android hardware vendors have in common is that they all drop support for non-current hardware way too fast.

As for Microsoft and their Windows Phone platform: They do allow for a lot of custom code, Nokia for instance got to rewrite the camera stack for the Lumia 1020, as well as vendor specific applications. However what they don't allow for (anymore at least) is vendors messing with the general UI.

I don't know

I don't know, the M7/M8 have higher PPI in their sceens and they've been out 2 years..NFC has been around for years too, and the whole camera lens stick outta the back of the phone is so gross, I would be afraid every time I lay the phone down. Not sure why Apple is so behind everything now.

If it's from the same guy who showed the fake iPhone 6 on video then these are also fake.

The result are not enough info to draw any conclusions. The 4.7 seems to be the slightly upgraded 5s with the 5 inch being the quad core beast. That makes sense and puts both in their own place in the market. There is nothing worrying about any specs fake or real so far, apart the ones from this phoney weibo user.

I am tagging you just to tell you that the iphone 6 looks exactly like the chinese dude show in the video. As many ppl said, if an device can show such kind of detail running IOS 8 on a video, it can't be fake. At most it is not a production product.

And the M8 is cheaper and looks awesome.

Seeing the new iPhone presentation, I'll be getting an iPhone 6. But the exodus will accelerate.

So the hardware leaks all accurate so far stripey back and protruding camera because Apple couldn't bear to release a phone that wasn't the thinnest garbage on the planet so 1GB RAM is all that's needed to ensure that my next phone will be a Nexus

You do know that its clocked much much lower than any chip used in Android phones... I'm guessing we are going to have a major boost in battery life.

"major boost in battery life" 10 h wifi browsing to 11 h, just incredible

----------

Battery life in this new iphone still sucks, they said "50%" more efficient (even 20 nm process being able to achieve ~96% better eficiency for the same performance in comparision to 28 nm), and it is just 25% faster, but the battery result are bewteen 0 and 20% better for the 4.7" so if you and an all day battery life you must take the 5.5" one which is almost the size of an ipad mini (all day means until the afternoon, for apple)

Great phone,

May pick one up, i'll have to check with the finances aka the wifey. Maybe if I get her one too she'll let me have one haha

Here we go with all the comments, it's not good enough etc.

That's OK, you enjoy your old devices while we enjoy our new iPhone 6.

That is a bit whacked. Just because it isn't good enough doesn't mean we won't buy! Objectively these are really awesome updates to the iPhone line up.

Until I start having problems with RAM on my phone, I'm not going to worry about RAM on my phone.

Don't know if anybody else have asked, but are you saying you don't have any LowMemory logs in the list at:

Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostics & Usage Data

?

I doubt it. There hasn't been an exodus. They're selling more phones than they ever have.

Does anyone know if the 6 Plus has 2GB RAM? Or is that something we will have to wait for.

Good grief :\

First Dan Riccio states in the iPhone 6 Ad that apple waiting this long to release a larger display because they wanted to get it right...what a load a bull. !334x750 and 1080p display is so last year. What were you waiting for?

Now he also mentions Desktop Architecture A8 processor which this article suggests has 1GB ram. My god, next iPhone 6S will sport same A8 processor but includes 2GB because apple is ready by then.

Please stop lining up to buy these iPhones there's far too many isheeps just creaming their pants because apple says this is "hi-tech"

Do we have actual confirmation of available RAM from a verified legit iPhone? Apple.com doesn't say anything about how much RAM the iPhone 6 has.

OMG, you’ve been holding your Note for 6 years? How did you sleep and take a shower?

:D

Note user aren't known to shower.

Nothing I know of.

I look at it this way if they only have 1GB it is a slight disappointment, but hardly the end of the world. I will be really disappointed if iPad comes with only 1GB. I can see the 6+ coming with 2GB though simply to support the larger screen.

I disagree, I guess it depends how you use your iPhone. For me I glance at it for notifications, take calls, take pictures, occasional web surf or youtube clip type video. I care most about the size, one handed operation, and fitting in my pocket. I can just barely touch all the corners of the 5s (my first smartphone) and also reach the home button. I have no desire for a bigger phone, and I wish they had released a 4 inch iPhone 6 to go along with the line up.

Thats just my opinion on it though. I don't mean to sound like a negative nancy, but I was expecting the performance of the iPhone 6 to be outrageously good! Think about it, the iPhone 5s beat out the galaxy note 2 in performance!!! That's insane especially considering the size difference. Its essentially the smallest smartphone vs a tablet! Granted they weren't released at exactly the same time but did co-exist in that "generation".

Anyway now that they have a bigger chassis, that should allow for bigger battery, bigger processor, more heat dissipation, etc. Add to that the efficiencies of iOS running on bare metal vs Android running through VM layer the iPhone 6 I was expecting to be a powerhouse. And its not. Even the 50% gain in GPU is chewed away by more pixels to fill on the screen.

I do like how thin the phone is, and the soft lines are a throwback to the original iPhone. The antenna lines on the back are polarizing at best, ugly at worst, and the chins are objectively too big in this day and age. At least they are smaller than the 5s chins.

Again i wish i could have the thinness, design, smaller chins, and NFC with a 4 inch screen. But for now I'm excited to buy a cheaper used 5s for my wife and if i really want NFC i can always get an Apple watch to pair with it.

ehhh....I have a HTC One M8 Google play edition..it's snappier and smoother than any iPhone/iPad anything out there.

Maybe, but I highly, highly doubt it. I had an M7 and it sucked ass from day one. Actually, the first one didn't last five minutes. The camera was DOA. Big surprise.

My Samsung Galaxy J SC-02F is more better than this iPhone 6.
1) minimum of 32Gb Rom
2) 3Gb Ram

and more.

If you want to know more about it, just google it for yourself.:p:D:cool:

Just ran Geekbench on my iPhone 5s running iOS 8 GM:

Single Core: 1401
Multi Core: 2542

A decent improvement over my iOS 7.1 score posted yesterday.

Who are sheep now? Too many people falling for that more RAM more pixels crap. What the hell are you doing with your phones that require you to need more RAM? Remember, Apple controls every aspect of the phone and OS so the OS is highly optimized to use every bit of power from the phone. I read on one site that the geek bench score for the 6 bested the score for the HTC One M8.

We're doing quite a bit much actually. I often use my Note 2 as an on the desk mundane task viewer. I use two side by side apps on an HDMI monitor, split between texts and the web browser, or email and at times a floating video playing.

The RAM would've been welcomed, but not having it isn't a major issue.

I've yet to see any highly respected developer claim they can't accomplish something in iOS because the device lacks RAM. This coupled with the amazing experiences i enjoy across all my iOS devices tells me 1 gig is more than enough.

Buy an iPad Air and open a couple of tabs and see how amazing the experience is with constant page reloads.
