Interesting question. I never considered if they would charge a premium for the large screen. I'd hope not but it's probably a possibility.

I think it depends on if they keep the old screen size as well. That model would keep the same price, and the bigger screen could be priced higher.

Apple has been feeling the heat over dropping profit margins. A large screen choice at a premium (okay, an extra premium) price might be just the ticket to make Wall Street happy again.

Or... Apple could keep the big screen at the same price and drop the regular model's price to better penetrate the lower price markets. Doesn't feel like something Apple would do, though.

Thoughts?

There you have it. We've seen the iPhone 6. This is exactly how I pictured it after the iPad air came out. I'm betting this is real close to what we're getting.

no, the macbook air was very, very special..
how many laptops in 2008 had a smooth, all aluminium (UNIBODY) design that can fit in a yellow manila folder?? none...
how many had a large multitouch trackpad? none...
thats exactly my point, Apple had always been in the forefront of design - often controversially (macbook air didnt have a disc drive, the iMac didnt have a floppy drive). But it always strived, and succeeded at differentiating itself against the competitors.
the iPhone 4 had a crazy retina display...and a massive leap forward in the quality of its industrial design - not to mention the peculiar antenna tech - not adopted by anyone else in the industry.

the iPhone 6 mock-up, well theres nothing different about it when compared to the next 50 android phones that are next to it in the stores.

ps: the internet is not a product created by one company in amongst competitors, it is a standard of communication, i think our discussion is more steered towards one product's design vs. competing products.
My point is that technological innovations are not always about appearance. For example, I think you are too easily dismissing the importance of the A7, M7, and fingerprint sensor, all of which made their debuts in the 5S. Furthermore, you would not have been able to know about their existence ahead of time by the leaked photos. Thus, whether these photos are real or not, you have no idea what "innovations" they will have in them. You have already made an assumption that all it will have is a bigger screen and the same form factor as the iPad Air.

BTW, the same things you say about the MBA could be said about the iPhone. How many phones have an aluminum case? The HTC One and...? And the HTC One is being discontinued as HTC moves downmarket b/c they couldn't make any money off of it.

Indeed, in years to come Apple may even give us Stereo sound on the iPad.
I know this is pushing advancements in technology quite a step, but I'm sure given their design teams they will be able to offer this to customers in perhaps only a few short years time.
I have NEVER wished for stereo sound on my iPad. What would be the point? The speakers are lo-fi and always will be on ANY mobile device. You want good sound, use BT speakers or good headphones. You get stereo sound for free since you seem to think it's so important.

I think the first is more likely than the latter. They did something similar when the 64GB iPhone launched - added a new tier in pricing, rather than discontinuing the smallest model and slotting in the others one price point down.

I would prefer the latter, though, and hopefully market pressure leads them this direction. I know personally I'd be pretty annoyed if I suddenly had to go up a tier to get the iPhone 6, and while I wouldn't pick Android over iOS because of it, I'm sure some would.

Better be fake because unless I'm looking wrong it looks like they just went one more row of apps taller again and not wider. Better not be. I want 5 apps wide.

Well, Apple is conservative once they get a design that serves the functionality beautifully. Just looks at the iMac. They thinned down a machine that doesn't need to be thin but it looked fantastic as always.

Innovation is another argument.

I think with Touch ID, improved camera, new rounded back monotone design with a large bezel-less retina display and software optimizations that take advantage of a slightly larger screen... there you go, a great upgrade from an iPhone 5/c/4/s below and many Android phones.

May not be a complete change but hey, any upgrade that improves what I already got and gives me more to see.. I'm down.

Good one... you are brainwashed. That's not innovation.

The Mac is a great laptop and computer line... the Macbook is by far the best laptop out there as far as hardware and software that is virus free. BUT that's largely because other companies that manufacture laptops/computers are sloppy and make stuff out of cheap plastic or 1/2 plastic. In other words, they half-ass it. The Mac could be a much better laptop just by focusing on software. iWork could be better. Ultimately, if Apple wants to convert all the Windows users, they're going to have to invest in iWork. Most people need/want a heavy-duty word processing software for work. I worked at a law office and we used crappy Windows computers. Software it's stable but hardware sucks. Apple needs iWork to be more advanced than Office. It's just that simple... but yet it hasn't been done to date.

I also noticed some type of cloning (I'm a photographer so I can see little edit details)...If you look at the picture where I drew an arrow pointing to the cloning details...you can see the line is thicker and not matching up with the phone lines..and its a bit raised so it doesn't look realistic. More proof that the phone images are edited and fake.

1D barcode? and too many bubbles under film...

This looks a lot like a high end photo-realistic rendering. Apple usually uses 2D barcodes on internal parts to save space. The film with (too many) bubbles under it seems like a make-belief render element.

I do a lot of VRay renderings in 3Ds max, and this kind of rendering is very easy to pull off now with a bit smart thinking and good modeling. So, we will see...

YOU have never wished because you've never seen / used a decent one. A lot of other people (incl. me) do wish the iPads also had stereo speakers because we do know (I have both models listed below) what they're capable of when properly implemented like in the below cases.

For example, the one in the Nexus 7.2013. The stereo speakers are a BIG plus when watching the occassional, quick videos - you don't need to reach for the headphones to be able to listen to the audio track in stereo.

If there is also an artificial stereo widening algorithm as is done in, say, the early-2007 (a 7-year-old model!) Nokia N95, the stereo speakers can be made even better use of.

Sad but true

But not true though! Unless, anything with thin bezels and large screen looks like Samsung galaxy. Actually the current Galaxy bezels aren't any thinner then the iPhone 5S! Not sure what you guys see on it that looks like SGS4.

----------

I think it bears some resemblance to the S4.

Image

Apart from large screen and thin top and bottom, what will the other resemblances be? I mean, that's where all smartphones are heading (with technology advancements) right? More screen, less bezels.

----------

Front-facing speakers please - it's about time. And will make the bezel look less of a wasted space.

And when the phone faces down? There is a reason why the speakers are where they are.

******* keeping Wall Street happy, make the users happy! That's all they need to do to ensure financial success.

The moment you take your focus away from the customer you are in trouble. See Microsoft as a prime example.

I have never wished for them because there are no circumstances in which I would use them. At home, I have a high end stereo system with Ascend Acoustic Sierra Ones, in my office I have a Klipsch G17. When I need audio on my front deck, I break out my UE Boom. When I need good sound when I'm traveling, I have a pair of high end UE earbuds. The sound in each one of these cases is (VASTLY) superior to any example you have given. Unless you want to pretend the laws of physics don't apply to them. Any situation in which I would use headphones is a situation where I would not want to disturb anyone else.

Tell me what circumstance I could conceivably want/need stereo speakers on a mobile device?

When you don't have high-quality headphones / external speakers around or you don't want to get (to) /connect them to play back a quick, short video. Or you don't want to carry headphones with you / they'd be inconvenient to use. For example, not at home. I very often listen to tunes on my iDevices / N95 / N7.2013 while in, say, resting (alone) after a workout at my workplace. As noone else is around, I can safely listen to tunes via the speaker(s) and don't need to use headphones. This way, I don't contribute to their being deteriorated either (sweat, water etc. after workout / shower).

Then, it's immensely better to have a device that plays back music in stereo, particularly if it's widened stereo as is done in the Nokia N95. With the latter, the music just fills in the entire room. Compared to it, listening to tunes on the speaker of an iPhone / iPad is pretty much annoying, their being mono only.

To each their own then. I would never listen to music out loud in a public space. I have never had headphones deteriorate in that way (but I replace the foam buds every couple of months).

The only time I have ever played it out loud is if I was showing some friends a youtube video I saw earlier. But the mono sound is fine. It's sufficiently clear and I still don't see why I would need stereo separation from a 4" device. If there were stereo speakers, they would be separated by 1". Put your two home speakers together separated by 1" and tell me if stereo sound helps much there.

Bottomline, if your choice in smartphone comes down to whether it has stereo sound or not, your priorities are VERY different from the vast majority.
